I can parry the hollows nearly 100% every time. But Gwyn is fast! I’m sure it’s doable, but his tells are much harder to spot. I’ll try again later tonight.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in-thread, but I enjoyed listening to this podcast at work, then playing DS2 at night. Brought out a lot of the lore for me as these two seem to know a LOT about it:
Praise the fucking sun!
So, that’s where he got to eh? Whatever happened, he got over it, and there he was in the Kiln of the First Flame ready to help me kick some Gwyn butt. I had already decided to upgrade my armour to +5 (Black Iron set, with very high fire resistance), and having tested a few swords against him it seems he was vulnerable to… fire, which doesn’t make much sense, but there you go. So I put some charcoal resin on my Silver Straight Sword +5 (for speed) and we both went in there. Well, I’m not sure if I just never noticed it before, but Solaire starts firing lightning bolts at the guy (looked like a smaller version of Ornstein’s spear?), while I slashed him from behind. It took just over a minute, but he fell easily. Amazing what a bit of help can do eh, Solaire? WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU WHEN I NEEDED YOU FOR MANUS! Sorry, I feel better now.
I wasn’t actually looking for Solaire, just wanted to see if any other players had put down their summon signs. Such a welcome sight when he appeared.
So that’s it, I’ve beaten Dark Souls. I feel like this gains me access to some exclusive club or something. Ok, I didn’t kill Manus or Kalameet, but they’ll still be there waiting… if… if I ever play NG+. I don’t normally replay games (that are less than 20 years old), but I can definitely see myself coming back to this eventually.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone, I feel like it was a team effort. :)

Congrats! Now we’ll have to show you the secret handshake.
Yay! Congratulations! Now you’re the Lord of Cinder! Not that I’ll pretend to understand the story, but I figure that’s what lighting the fire means.
The one surprise for me is that guy that used to sit by the bonfire at firelink shrine at the beginning of the game, who disappeared never to return; I was surprised that he never made a return appearance. Part of me half expected him to betray me at some point somehow.
It is like a bond, I am looking forward to the day I meet someone in real life and that we discover that we’ve been in Blighttown, beaten O&S (although I have to get there)… remember Blighttown?
I think I am making the game harder for myself, than it actually is. Not using bow and arrows, not using magic… I don’t know if it makes sense starting now with magic, since I would need to level up a couple of times for it to be strong enough? But there are some spells, I want to aquire like invisibility… There is the ring of fog, though. But I need a skull lantern to trade with Snuggly the crow… and skull lanterns can be found in the catacombs, but I am on Anor Londo at the moment, so this all has to wait…
Also, I checked some Demon’s Souls videos and it looks like this is the game I should play next or after DS3…
Congratulations! Here’s the secret handshake:
Don’t click unless completed DS!
Indeed, I have become Lord Gwyn, and the cycle begins anew. Or something. The overriding story didn’t have much impression on me, but the background to the characters certainly did; their tragic history. Only now, at the end, does it all start to make sense.
I think he’s the guy who attacks you later in the game, near New Londo Ruins, before you step onto the wooden walkway. At least it looked and sounded like him. Not sure why he attacked me though, other than being a vindictive bastard. The first thing I did in NG+ when I arrived back at Firelink Shrine was kill him. :)
And it’s amazing just how ridiculously easy the Asylum Demon is / was now. I didn’t get much further than Firelink, but if I want to continue, it’ll be there still, burning away.
I ended up with two skull lanterns, didn’t realise you could trade one with snuggly! I ended up selling it to Frampt. Oops. You get one fairly early in the catacombs from what I remember.
Pyro spells are quite powerful, but you really need to level up the pyromancy glove by the stage you’re at for it to remain effective. I found it very useful in the catacombs, a lot of those skeletons do not like fire. Like anything, there’s no one thing that’s useful all the time, you have to have a number of options available. Good luck with O&S incidentally.

He actually does show up at, at the entrance to New Londo Ruins, where he will attack you after he goes hollow. You may have done the Ruins so early in the game that he wasn’t there yet. I am not sure what triggers his actual move.

And congrats Krazyrock…I was going to ask you if Solaire was still alive in your game.
I do remember a mysterious guy who attacked me before the New Londo ruins. I guess that’s what passes for the end of that storyline in this game. Speaking of which, my fellow Pyromancer, after he left the Firelink Shrine showed up in Blighttown while I was making my towards the Great Hollow again, and he attacked me so I had to kill him. At least, he was wearing the same clothes, so I guess he also decided to attack me with no explanation.
So you’re saying these people go hollow? Is there a way to donate some humanity to them so they don’t go hollow? I had some to spare.

I have never had that happen to me but I was watching a Kay Plays play thru of DS1 yesterday and it happaned to her. So yea, I guess at some point Laurintius (sp) goes to Blighttown to look for “Chaos Fire” and during the trip goes hollow. Somebody commented that this happens after you mention to him you have “found” Chaos Fire (Queelog’s Sister perhaps) but I don’t remember that conversation option.
Yeah he asks you about it specifically after you kill Quelaag. I can’t remember the specifics but he implied he wanted to go look for it. I said something along the lines of not knowing where I got it, because I didn’t want him leaving firelink.
everything was connected so far in terms of geography… Anor Londo and Painted World feels like they are not 100% the same place. Maybe with Anor Londo, they had technical reasons to use the Bat wing demon lifting you (like hiding a loading screen)…
(same with Undead Asylum of course… )
not much is going on in Anor Londo… I kindled the bonfire, but now I am in human form… That’s good because I can summon Solaire, but I got invaded several times, and I alt+F4ed … yeah, I am that kind of a person. Since I learned, that there are people putting several hundreds of hours into invading other peoples world and making their life miserable, I just quit and reload… I think you must be a pretty bad person to invade into a 5 years old game at that point… just stop it. Go on with your life

I skipped the Depths and cleared out Blightown but still have the Capra demon waiting for me. I might just start delving into the Catacombs instead. Been doing a sorcerer build to see how easy or difficulty it is.

In my recent replay of DS1 I was invaded 3-4 times I think. I think 2 of those were near the boss gate in Anor Londo. I do think one of the drawbacks of DS1 compared to DS2 is that in DS1 you have to go human at a bonfire, so you then are open to invasions for the time it takes to get to the boss gate. In DS2 you can go human in front of the boss gate.

The Capra Demon would be a tough fight for a “ping ping” sorcerer early in the game. He does have something you need though. I wonder how pyromancy works against him. I don’t remember when better sorcery spells become available, although the guy you need for that is probably down there as well. Which reminds me, the pyromancer you need is probably unavailable then.
Back in the day, I spent a lot of time dropping my summon sign in front of the door to help folks deal with Capra. All I did it with was a high stability shield and the combustion spell. With a strong enough pyromancy glove, it is ludicrously fast. Pyromancy spells work great against him. That said, yeah I think you need to pick up combustion from the pyromancer teacher in Blighttown.
