I tried the forest covenant and it seems to be guys decked out in super gear waiting for invaders and 1 shotting me.

Is there a limit to the number of forest invaders allowed? Could you draw them out and wait for backup? (although, probably doesn’t help with 1-shots).

I had 2 helpers once when invading a dude, and I won that. Every other attempt ended quickly. I can imagine if you’re farming souls in that area in human form you want to be attacked, and you’re prepared for it.

I got summoned by someone in the forest invader area who was just camping there to fight invaders.

All the enemies in the forest were already cleared out so I equipped the ring of fog and hide behind a tree in the dense forest while the other guy stood in plain sight in the clearing near the ruined tower.
The invaders would see and focus on him and I’d come up as death from behind.

We must have killed some 50 invaders. One particular guy kept invading us over and over and we kept killing him. Twas hilarious!

Was stuck in the same place as well. Realized I might need some fire for the small guy, so I finally decided to figure out some crafting. Made a queelag sword. Got the gold hemmed armor. Buffed up some weapons and shields and then went and got one humanity.

Summoned the Npc for that boss fight and finally got through it. Almost managed to summon a real player but that failed. The npc went down, but not before we took out the little guy. I did a little pole dancing with a column base sort of like how I did with the flame lurker and finally got by.

I don’t mind the difficulty of dark souls, but I’m glad that part was done. The idea of spending time farming in this game doesn’t really sit well with me so I’m glad I did t need to go back and load up on humanity or whatever.

O&S is always a road block for me. Always.

But I can now acclaim with ebullience that I’ve solo’d the fight both ways.

Amen brother. Soloing a tough boss (two bosses at a time, then FOUR) really made the game come alive for me again. I play with a big shield (Crest of Artorias I loves u!) and being broken out of my standard strategy of waiting for the mobs to over extend themselves was enormously satisfying.

Four Kings is a brutal battle. I built up a Sorcerer character after hitting a roadblock in Lost Izalith with my thief, who had no ranged battle capability. I was able to beat every boss up til them with Magic Missile spam. Dragonslayer Ornstein died from 3 Soul Lances (those things are like nuclear bombs), and his fat friend took about 15 Great Soul Arrows (many were blocked for no damage). All in all, an easy fight to solo.

Four Kings, however, seem to have massive resist to Magic and Fire so my spells were useless. I had to go full Havel and spam melee attacks (Try close-range battle) with my +5 Magic Iaito to defeat them, and even then it took all 15 +3 Estus flasks to win the fight.

So now I am back in Lost Izalith, and those giant… things… are still incredibly hard, but at least I can kill them 1 at a time with my Soul Lances and they don’t respawn. My thief had no way to damage them, since I can’t see an effective way to engage them in melee without getting stomped to death.

As far as FOUR KINGS and the dragon halves go, I’ve found that a weapon that deals purely physical damage (hello BK weapons) is enormously effective against mobs that have some sort of elemental resist. Correct me if I’m wrong, but all elemental weapons deal their damage in two (sometimes three) distinct segments. Meaning that first the physical damage is calculated vs the phys def, THEN the elemental or magic damage is calculated vs the individual other resists. Enemies that have elemental resists usually have relatively low physical protection, hack right through em.

I’m not up on the mechanics in Dark Souls but if it’s like Demon’s Souls this is the case. Your magic Iaito likely wasn’t a great option as much of the magic damage would have been resisted. You should have different elemental weapons as well as good physical weapons for dealing with different enemies. Even if it seems like a different weapon is a poor choice because of your stats or what the status screen says about the damage you have to factor in the resistances of your enemies.

Focusing on a single damage type will throw up some significant walls for you to overcome when that damage type isn’t terribly effective.

My character is so weak I can’t wield any weapons effectively. I had to 2-hand the Iaito. I’ve pumped Int, End, and split the rest between Attunement and Vitality. I dropped a few points in Str and Dex to wield the Channeler’s Trident, which is way worse than my lightning spear despite the Int scaling because I can’t enchant it. Twinkling Titanite can suck my ass, there’s like 5 in the entire game and all my armors want it to enchant up.

Ah, so my advice to wield a heavy weapon is pretty useless then :) As far as the Twinkies go, once you hit the Dukes Archives there are several in chests to grab (as well as Crystal Lizards in the Great Hollow that you have to do a suicidal jump to…) Also, the vapor-patch is going to make Twinkies purchasable, yaddda yadda…

That patch is never coming. I’ll be playing Dark Souls on the Phantom console before we get 1.05.

On November 2nd. <sigh>

So… put more points into Str and/or Dex… not sure I see the problem.

Why bother! I cleared the only boss I’ve encountered so far that resisted my Soul Arrows, and in PvP I just poke away with my spear and do small amounts of magic damage through their shield. If they stop to drink I nuke them with Soul Lance.

I’d like to take this moment to say ‘fuck you Mr Cacodemon sir, fuck you very much’. It took about ten tries to work out a getting past the dogs strategy, and another five to get him down to below 25 percent. Dinner with the family interrupted the learning process and now its back to square one.

Although the bottle of wine might not be helping…

Yes I meant CapraDemon, yes this should have gone in the ‘I’m drunk’ thread, and yes, he just ate dirt. This game is maddening, but when you win, you wiiiiiiiiiiin!

Dark Souls convinced me to cut back on my drinking. True story.

It seems like the patch is out in the US (not yet in EU)
