You have to give them credit, though, because the pacing around Blight Town really makes the glorious next sections you have access to all the more stunning. I guess, though, I’m in the minority that liked 5-1 and 5-2 a great deal in terms of what they asked you to do.

Just about the only “broken” rule in Blight Town that I think was a mistake was the 0 soul/constant respawn enemies. The latter is the key irritant and the former is just insult to injury. I also think that having it be a mandatory backtrack for most players afterwards was a foolish choice.

In both cases, though, (5 and Blight) I was glad to put it behind me.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally love this game, even if some of that love is actually Stockholm syndrome.

I didn’t mind blighttown too much. Mostly it was the framerate that bothered me. Tomb of Giants however… FUCK Tomb of Giants.

Had a chance last night to start another play-through with the patch. The game feels allot better at the start, I noticed that the enemies at the beginning are giving out more souls and the slight buff to upgrading really helped out. Locking on is smooth now which fixed one of my main complaints with the game. At this point my only real complaint with Dark Souls is the annoying last quarter of the game where things tend to become a slog for me.

Did the patch make farming for titanite chunks easier?

Recently picked up DS and got to this boss last night. Barely beat him on my 3rd try and I was so amped up I had to put down the controller for 10 minutes. I don’t remember the last game that felt this good when beating a boss.

Summoning players is finally reliable – I went 0 for 20 in pre-patch attempts, 1 for 1 post-patch. I was stuck on Sif for the longest time but bringing in a partner did the trick. Onto Anor Londo.

Holy shit fuck. I can’t get through Anor Lando from the bonfire to O&S without an invading evil spirit(red) or spirit of vengeance(blue) bringing the ruck.

If I kill one, the other is immediately on the way. No breathing room.

I’m in NG++ at level 137!

Did they fix the input delay / a button press not registering which sometimes occurs we discussed earlier in this thread?

I believe that was in the notes (haven’t tested it myself).

Isn’t Anor Lando the big PvP location in this game? Also you’re right in that popular 120ish level range for PvP. Play hollowed or even better, offline if you don’t want to be invaded.

No, they didn’t, I had this bug a few times yesterday.

I have a dumb question about NG+ and summoning. If someone’s beats NG on a low-ish level, can you still get summoned into their NG+ world because your levels match up? I remember going through Blighttown with another guy pre-patch and a lot of the monsters there took a ton more hits than I was used to.

That’s… almost exactly what I wanted.

Reported.

Yes. At least, that’s the impression I have; that the summoning is based purely on level and not on whether it’s a normal game or NG+(+++…).

Cool, thanks. I’ve been doing quite a bit of co-op lately with the Sunlight Cov. Multiplayer seems to be working really well now. Got invaded and one-shotted in the Depths twice within 20 minutes, just like it should be.

Another question: is 35 too high a level for the Gaping Dragon? I got summoned pretty consistently back in the Undead Burg for the Bell Gargoyles and the Capra, but now I’m standing around twiddling my thumbs in the Depths. It’s entirely possible that no one’s playing at the moment.

Also the gaping dragon seems like it lends itself most easily to solo play. The big summon hotspots I’ve come across are the Painted World and Anor Londo, fwiw.

Aaaarrrgh. I so want to be playing this right now, but there are TOO MANY GAMES.

Thanks. Yeah it seems like most people are just sequence-breaking out of the Depths/Blighttown long route duo. I actually like Blighttown myself. Hell, Tomb of the Giants is one of my favourite areas in a game. I just really like how From gave all these great, tight (for the most part) mechanics and then designed each new area to add some small or huge wrinkle to everything you’ve been doing (pitch black cliffside, ghosts who can only be killed with a certain status, pressure plates, etc).

See that’s what this game does to me. I can’t just post a ‘thanks for the tip’ post. Nope I feel compelled to tack on a love letter to From too.

It’s better than it was, but I agree, it’s not fixed. I’ve had the delay issue while trying to drink a flask. Several times.

Agreed 100%. The infinite respawn is akin to breaking the fourth wall. It doesn’t fit and it bothers me more than even the framerate issues.

Ahh, Dark Souls Syndrome. I’m suffering from that too (I love how encumbrance and fighting style provide such different experiences. Two-handed weapon with weight under 25% is just so different from spear+shield and full armor, for example).

Also, Tomb of Giants is a good summons spot. You need to be near the boss, though (or at least, the closest bonfire).
