It’s on the wikidot wiki. There are comparison videos on Youtube as well.

It doesn’t seem like a big difference, even if you go up to 45 dex which is a lot of ‘wasted points’ if your build doesn’t need dex otherwise.
Yeah I don’t know much about the dexterity one except that it would probably only matter at the level of PvP with investing the leftover points for the standard SL120 build.
I looked for where I got that idea about kicking which seemed confirmed by my time in-game, but damned if I can find it and it seems like the commentary is that you can instantly change your kick power by altering your right hand weapon. Doesn’t seem right to me, since my high str character kicks the hell out of PvPers with far heavier weapons and shields that, at least from what is visible (ie Eagle and above), should be sufficiently stable in and of themselves. That could well be confirmation bias at work, though.
I wonder how feasible it would be to set up an experiment in controlled PvP where we weapon/armor/shield switch to see what changes. I’ve never tried the invading covenants other than forest so I don’t know.
I think one of the covenants (dragon?) is duel-oriented, so you might be able to summon a specific dueller like you do with co-op, but dropping the sign repeatedly in an out of the way spot.
LK, with the Red Soapstone we could have three players in one area. It’s very common in the Kiln for me to leave my Red Sign down, and be summoned into a world with a human observer and another red phantom to actually duel with.
So, if we picked a spot that isn’t well traveled, and bring a few chars that are in the 110-130 range (or even lower, I just figured we probably have characters in that range) we can setup any kind of experiment we need to run.
I’m most interested to see if the rumour about Divine weapons being better vs Phantoms (invaders) and Occult weapons being more useful vs Human Players (the invaded) is true.
Only high level character I have is 153 or so, which would have enough Vit to take a few hits. Are you on XBL or PSN? If the former, friend me and we’ll sort something out.
Arg, PS3 only strikes again. Though I’m sure someone else here will take the bait…er… offer :)
Edit: If anyone on the PSN wants to give this a shot I have a 137 and a 120. PSNID aterriblemistake
Well, I have one level 45 and one 153 if anyone’s up for it. I guess I can just bully around some chumps in undead burg and see what happens.
I think I’m in the low 100 range, but it’s been about two weeks since I checked (I took a break / had an intervention) so I will check tonight. Might be too low for you, but I’m on XBL, and willing to be a guinea pig.
Do you mean to say they added a new character somehow? Or is it some sort of easter egg? I’ve never farmed using that cliff-jumping-thing, so I could very well be misunderstanding what you mean.
They changed some enemy placements in the latest patch.
No, I think what he is referring to is an additional invisible NPC enemy past the gate in the garden. I met him there the first time in with my character, in shock at the audacity of invisible enemies and then rapidly sandwiched to death betwixt him and the inviso-thief. My assumption is that this extra NPC with heavy armor and zweihander is only there the first time you enter this area, until either you or he dies. I haven’t seen him again. (Not to be confused with the invisible archer Pharis, who stays until he is killed, and the invisible thief who respawns every time)
There were always 2 invisible knights past the crest that don’t respawn (once killed), in addition to the 5 assorted (archer, bandit, thief, cleric) that do respawn.
Yup, just saw TotalBiscuit’s video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUXw86Vn8ko and now I want it. Might even bypass the backlog if it comes out.
You may well be right. I don’t remember ever killing that 2-hander wielder, but maybe I pushed him off the cliff or another non-memorable death. I stopped looking at the wikis, so this is only my dusty memory speaking. Everyone has memorized the sorcerer, cleric, thief, and bandit, so you are saying the other 2 invisibles: the 2H knight and Pharis the archer, both stay until you kill them?
IIRC, there’s 2 knights (armor + 2H sword) who don’t re-spawn. I think both have fog rings, so they’re kind of annoying.
And then there’s the archer (Pharis I guess). He doesn’t respawn either. Apparently he’s supposed to drop some uniques, although I think I killed him without getting them…maybe off a cliff or something. Boo. I’ll have to go double check that, because I’m a dex build.
Then there’s the farm-able guys: cleric, sorc, thief, bandit.
There is definitively a 2-hand guy who doesn’t respawn.
PC port: Unnecessary, but I would probably buy it again. For me, Dark Souls is a console game at heart.
I don’t remember which Dark Souls thread I posted about my over-leveling woes, but…
I seem to have resolved it by a combination of getting to the Duke’s Archives, where there’s a reasonable population at my too-high level, and by getting occasionally summoned into New Game+ in Anor Londo, if my inability to do any damage is an indication. Now I wonder if I should level up even more to get more solidly into the New Game+ range…
And speaking of spending souls, it’s occurred to me that the Twinkling Titainte upgrades are actually some of the easiest ones to max out mid-game, since you can buy twinkling, but you have to farm regular titanite chunks. So, I’m now trying to decide how to upgrade the “special” upgrade paths.
That being said, does anybody have any general armor recommendations for the mid to endgame? Are there any basic sets that are better than the “unique” (twinkling) sets? I’m toying with the Armor of Favor (curse resist) and/or Xanthous set (pretty light weight - total weight allowance is about 60, so I stay sub-30) since they’re pimpin’ gold colored.
Basically, if anybody has any comments about their armor build in general, I’d welcome it. I packrat every armor set in the game, then get indecision paralysis.

For armor, are you talking about PVE or PVP?
For PVE (Claymore), I’m a big fan of:
- Mask of the Mother
- Paladin Armor
- Giant Chest & Legs.
For PVP, poise from 55 - 74 is optimal. Pay special note to Hollow Soldier’s Waistcloth; it has the highest poise/lb. ratio in the game.
PVE mostly, I’m not deluding myself into thinking I can compete in the PVP arena, those people are crazy.
I haven’t picked up the Paladin armor yet, I’ll definitely have to check it out because it looks like a pretty solid option. I haven’t killed Nito, so I still can, but I turned back from his Fog Door because i wanted to play around with his covenant a bit.
Re: the Giant Armor set, the description says it reduces stamina regen…isn’t there an automatic stamina regen hit with equip weight above 50%? So, is that an additional effect on the Giant armor, or is it just flavor text? It’s amazing that even with the infinite power of the internet and official guides, it’s still hard to get a definite answer on how some of the systems work.
