You’re kidding. That bad? I’m really shocked, I must have gotten my positive reviews mixed up, or else they were really deceptive excerpts.
The Historian has one of THE lamest denouements in the history of fiction, imo. I won’t spoil it here, but after hacking my way through the rather verbous and overwrought writing (because my wife insisted I “should” be liking the book) I was so disgusted with the “answer” that I just dropped the book on my nightstand and haven’t picked it up since. And that’s even after her telegraphing what is going on for a couple of hundred pages anyway.
