Not that I agree with you of course but in some ways wouldn’t that be a nice tip of the hat to 2004? (Ouch! Did I say that out loud too?)
We don’t have the Alpha Centauri IP. If I tried to do AC2 they’d take MY first-born child… and then I wouldn’t have anyone to sheep adds for me in WoW! :P
Cue montage: thinks for a long long time, runs some tests, totals up some figures, examines the mating cycles of butterflies, rereads Ulysses, arrives at the answer
Firaxis, the company that developed it. Just a guess.
I would much rather see Firaxis make Alpha Centauri 2 than Civ 4. I still maintain that Alpha Centauri was MUCH better than Civ 3, especially when it came to the diplomatic model. The factions and governments were also much more diverse an interesting in AC.
But Brian designed Alpha Centauri. So BHG should do a spiritual successor. ;)
My guess- Rise of Nations 2.
Ditto, and their current job openings would suggest that or some other RTS. Either way, definitely looking forward to it! Here’s hoping a Fall 2005 release is in store.
Looking in from the outside, I think Rise of Nations 2 is the most logical choice from a purely financial standpoint. Now that the IP has proven itself, Big Huge Games can look for a more lucrative deal than was probably possible with the first RoN. This would help insure the long-term stability of the company, and possibly allow for increases in budget/scope of their 3rd title.
Who DOES have that IP?
Alpha Centauri is a registered trademark of Firaxis.
I wish Rise of Nations had more stable online play and a better base of multiplayer opponents online.
Best freaking RTS I’ve ever played (I didn’t get into Total Annihilation that much) by a gigantic margin, and I can’t find a decent game of it through the random match up. It’s really sad.
So, that being said, I say you make Rise of Nations II, and then buy some small country and force their people to be online and play it against random opponents for 8 hours a day each person.
