Death on the set of, "Rust," an Alec Baldwin produced western

This prosecutor was really an embarrassment. She really should lose her job over this fiasco. I think she was trying to make a name for herself it something, but she screwed it up big time, and looks really incompetent.

Wasn’t this the 2nd prosecutor? I want to say the guy who started the whole thing ended up resigning.

But regardless it was a fairly obvious Brady violation as I understand it. The only thing exceptional about the dismissal was that it happened because usually judges look the other way when the State shits the bed.

Prosecutors shitting the bed really seems to be the theme of this year. Or at least, them getting caught doing it.

The widower is still going after Alec Baldwin in a civil case.

And I hope the widower wins. Baldwin deserves to get sued. All of the producers do. They hired a substandard armorer and it got someone killed. Pay up.

Take your L.

I would say that I find it unusual to withhold evidence on the prosecution’s judgment call that it was irrelevant. That’s for the judge and the defence counsel. A huge and unnecessary L imho.

“So I said, categorically, ‘We will have no firing weapons on set,’ which means we didn’t have one gun that could have had a live round or a blank round anywhere near it ever, so that no projectile could go in,” he continued. “They’re all Airsoft guns, and some of them are just rubber or metal decoys that are functional but have no firing mechanism.”

“The beauty of the Airsoft is that the slide on a Glock will still move back, but then you have to add the shell casing,” the filmmaker said. “You have to add a muzzle flash and smoke, but that was a price worth paying. It took a fair bit of money out of my very limited visual effects budget, but I think it was worth it. The visual effects on this movie were very much in-camera. We were mainly a location shoot with set extension. So you have to balance where you spend the money when you don’t have a massive budget to do visual effects. But to me, that was a very worthwhile spend for everyone’s safety and comfort going into this project.”

I’m convinced these prosecutors are idiots.

I’m starting to think she might not be an entirely responsible individual.

I hate to see anyone face jail for an honest mistake, but when the mistake kills someone, an example has to be set. I’m flighty and fond of the frequent pint; I know I should not be a pilot or a demolitions expert because I’m just not wired that way, to be responsible and follow rules 100% of the time. Which is exactly the percentage I expect out of my pilots, I do not have data on demolitionists yet but here’s hoping.

I’m sure I said it upthread, but I could also never be a film armorer not because of my flightiness, quite the opposite (I had gun safety burned into me as a young child.) The film would never get made because it would take me all day to set up a shot to my satisfaction of safety.

Same. My problem would be that I’d want every actor/AD/prop person on the set that handles a gun to be trained to the military range standard. I’d get fired so fast. Hahahaha.

My imagining is always that I would have like a newsboy sack of guns strapped around me, have everyone go to the starting position, hand them a gun while assistants watched that they didn’t do anything stupid, “Action!” Okay, go collect all the guns, confirm they’re the same guns with the same fake ammo, etc. etc. “We can go again in two hours! Maybe ninety minutes!”

Being already dismissed with prejudice, how is reviving it even a thing?

It sorta feels like the prosecutor tried to strenuously object.

Rules are often suggestions for the prosecution.

I understood that reference!
