Hopefully once the event system is in place for impulse or DG, we can finally get the qt3 players together for some games, as right now it’s hard to find anyone online easily compared to steam.

Come on Brad, it’s the Internet.

Right, and the CEO of the publisher posting that they are just going to move on and not support the game sells copies by the boatload. Internet sarcasm is never a good idea.

What else would you do with your cake?

You could cover your cake in 5$ refunds for pre-order customers?

The cake is a lie.

Doing the shield then HoL thing? That can be nasty during the early and middle game. He’s going to get, what, 1800 health and mana back during that time in addition to the damage you’re not doing to him.

Stuns and interrupts will do nothing to stop HoL’s regeneration. What will stop it is healing, but not every kind. All active heals like sedna’s heal, divine justice from a killing blow, a potion, priests, etc. stop the HoL effect on anyone. Health regen and lifesteal do not.

As for defeating him… get him to use it early with ranged attacks if possible. Hit and run. Then close after Shield has been activated. You want to stop it’s effects as soon as Shield wears off. Grab a health potion or two and use them yourself in a straight up battle with him. You can use them more often then he can use Shield.

Deep freeze from a Torch Bearer works wonders for increasing the cooldown times. Two on ones are helpful in any situation. If you notice an Oak going with this combo, try and get one of your teammates to help you gank him a few times. The combined cash and time gained should put you ahead of his game.

Or get a tank Senda to take him on.

it’s been mentioned many times (at least 3 by me) that xfire works great for this. it has all the features that Impulse probably should regarding friends list. It can even work as a voice-comm if you don’t have vent.

It shows me how many of my friends are in demigod at any given time and the in-game overlay UI works very well with demigod and allows text chat messages to anyone else on xfire which helps us coordinate our games very well.

Now that the actual ‘getting a lobby to work’ part is working I’m out of non-balance things to bitch about I think. You guys really just need to make a Qt3 Xfire group to mirror the Qt3 steam group.

What’s the practical difference between “concede” and “rage-quit”?

The other person gets a win rather than having to finish the game against bots.

EDIT: And an incentive to concede rather than quit could be that say, quitting gets you no favor and conceding gets you the “you lose” screen where it adds up the favor and gives you whatever you deserve. Of course that would hinge on getting favor fixed first.

Hence my trouble. I played 3 2v2 matches against an Oak yesterday (one of the games had 2 Oaks doing it), and my team mate and I might as well have been playing against someone using a God-Mode cheat. Extremely frustrating. Not even Foul Grasp can interrupt it.

What will stop it is healing, but not every kind. All active heals like sedna’s heal, divine justice from a killing blow, a potion, priests, etc. stop the HoL effect on anyone. Health regen and lifesteal do not.
Active heals will actually interrupt HoL while Oak is shielded? Hmm… Maybe it’s time to learn to play Sedna. But can she even cast heal on enemy DGs?

Anyway, thanks for the tips.

Yups, it’s pretty brilliant. But can it do voice chat for more than 2 people at once?

Also: yes! Impulse really, really needs all this stuff. IMO even more so than new DGs/levels/events.

Conceding would/should be something one or both sides agrees to do. I have yet to rage-quit, but I’ve played several games where the outcome’s been certain 10+ minutes before the game was over. That’s just too long.

Similarly, if both teams could agree to concede a match without having their stats or disconnect% negatively impacted, the d0med-by-AI-suck would go from major annoyance to minor inconvenience.

What? Next thing you know, you’re going to say people are mean on the Internet! :)

yeah, xfire has voice and text channels and the voice ones work just like vent but with more lag. our group still uses vent for voice, but we use xfire to coordinate games and to know when to log onto vent.

You know what bugs me most* about the whole mess with Demigod’s launch? There are a whole mess of relatively simple interface issues, or the way you can’t select demigods randomly or blindly, or the lack of offline favor item browsing, that could have been addressed by now if it wasn’t for the networking goat rope. I had a list of minor complaints that, had it been a smoother launch, would probably have been addressed by now.

  • Easy for me to say, since I mostly plan LAN games.

Well yes and no because the two are separate.

When the connectivity cluster occurred, we had the same concerns and it was decided that we (Stardock) would put developers on it so that GPG could do what you describe.

v1.1 from GPG later this month (I am pretty sure) will have a lot of nice tweaks in it.

So in short, the connectivity fixes have been on Stardock’s (publisher) dime.

BTW, based on tonight’s update, I’m pretty sure the connectivity is at least as good as any other random RTS.

Now you have standard direct connect like all PC games have. Plus NAT connection attempts if that fails which most modern PC games and then if that fails, we host the game to you on a local server (Europe, Australia, North America).

At that point, if there’s still a problem there’s not much more we can do.

so, in light of the current developments, am I allowed to eat cake if i have it? And if I don’t have it, can I want it, for the purposes of eating said cake?

There are three conditions to fulfill your request.

  1. The cake is not a favor item.

  2. You are an Oak using Shield.

  3. The Forces of Darkness have constructed a Finger of God!!!

Here’s what version 1.1 is shaping up to be:

And some followup info:

Hooray to the concede button and extra favor for finishing the game. Yay to killing the persistent sold minions exploit. I’ll believe it when I see it to the improved AI. Yip-huh? to the combined Heart of Life nerf and boost.

So I finally got my friends to retry this game after the massive issues at launch. I have played it no issue many times today. But alas, the second we all try, it seems all of Demigod, forums and all are toast. They may come up in 10 minutes, but I will never get my friends to try this game again.

SO… freaking… frustrating.

Edit: Well it came back after a few hours. The best reason I saw thrown around was a midnight (9PST) stat update. Still to have my friends finally give it another go after being assured all was well and working now (by me), walk into a wall of unresponsive menus, lock-ups, and empty lobbies was very bad indeed. Bad bad timing.
