My new Impulse name is CastleBrav0 (that’s a zero at the end.) I’m downloading the game at a speedy 2.25MB/s, so it should be done within the hour. Is there a tutorial mode that introduces the different demigod’s and their powers, or do you just have to jump in and start playing? I’ve played hundreds of hours DOTA in my time so I figure it shouldn’t be hard for me to get the hang of this, however.
The game comes with a life vest for a reason.
Another 50% off code up for grabs, but this time you have to say:
“PC Gamer is my favorite game magazine, and while it is still very awesome, I sure miss TheVede. Also, I’ve always thought that TheVede was particularly insightful, handsome, and not losing his hair. Furthermore, sometimes it really seems like Tom Chick is actively trying to be a contrarian, the latest example being his inFAMOUS review, in which he calls out the game’s writing for being ‘uniformly horrible’, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I occasionally have dreams about beating Tom in a vicious slap-fight contest, which I secretly think he’d enjoy.”

Don’t really care, just was hoping to avoid having 10 people try to use it and be disappointed.

Thanks so much, Disconnected! Game is paid for and I’m just working on setting up Boot Camp on my MacBook’s new drive in order to download Impulse to download and run it.
EvilIdler: I know you’ve played around with Demigod on a MacBook. Were you running it under Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit), or XP?
I take it you haven’t played InfAmoUS yet. Once you’ve tried it, we can have a laugh together about the awful writing. It’ll be great. At which point I can share some tips with you on the difference between being contrarian and thinking critically about games. We’ll have so much fun.

So I had several multiplayer games last night with a friend who’s skill level is on par with mine. I was struck by how Erebus still seems really pretty dang powerful, even after bite being nerfed in a recent patch.
I tend to be careful about crying “unbalanced!”, but it seems to me Erebus can pretty much take on any other demigod handily in a 1v1 match. Anyone know if this is a common observation among folks playing online, or is it just me?
-Tom
The balance in demigod isn’t perfect… and it’s actually item balance that seems more off than hero balance. Bonus life items are far more cost efficient than most other items, for how useful they are.
I think Fire Torchbearer is probably the toughest 1v1 hero, once he reaches level 7 or so. After that, Sedna, then Erebus. Early in the game, Sedna and Erebus rule all. The bite is still pretty fierce, but Sedna has the healing edge and Fire TB will just get ridiculously tough as the game goes on and he layers on +HP items.

Anyone have a coupon code? I’d love to pick the game up.
No one has claimed mine yet, Marcus. Still need one?
Edit: Sorry, Ex-S Woo just got it.
All demigods are played as assassins and Erebus is very good as one.
While he has only one nuke and is melee his 4 skills form a great set.
Bite is incredible. Not so much because of the damage, but because it combines so many advantages. Its damage, heal, slowdown and armour reduction. In a single, cheap skill. In a way it has a fith effect, time, as all those advatanges in a hard to interrrupt, single fire skill make it superior to long combos of other demigods.
Combine that with a huge AOE stun, a teleport usable in offense and defense and the great utility of mist (creep killing, avoiding enemy nukes, removing debuffs and all that with a variable time length that you can adjust to your needs and mana reserves) and you got an extremely versatile character.
He also has a small sprite which often gives him a considerable stealth factor.
He can easily avoid fights he cant win and can use more opportunities than other Demigods for kills.
He doesn’t reach the single target damage output of some other demigods, but from my experience a well played, well equipped Erebus is indeed close to invincible in 1:1 from the midgame on (Sedna can fight him to a standstill, with the outcome determined by equipment, mana, towers etc. but its a slog).
At the same time engaging an Erebus in team fights always puts your team at a disadvantage, because he will survive longer than any other demigod under pressure and is able to cause moderate damage even when teamed up upon.
So yes, I agree. Erebus is an extremely powerful demigod in the right hands. More so than a crazy-damage Regulus or any of the other strong combinations of skills I played against so far.
