yea, every time i’ve dropped into the qt3 channel it’s been empty…

I’ve played some single player skirmishes, just to get a feel for the game. I enjoyed getting my ass handed to me by the AI, and I was learning as I went. I started with the Rook, thinking that since I’m a turtler by nature, he’d be a good fit. I just haven’t mastered reacting quickly, always planting towers of light, etc… I’m still struggling with basic camera control, and realizing how much I still have to experience. All the other Demigods, and all of the other possible builds.

I have no clue if I can even play multiplayer with my router/connection, but I’m willing to try tomorrow during the day, if anyone wants an easy victim. Are you folks using any particular voice chat app when you play this? I think it pretty much demands voice communication, and I’d be willing to download whatever’s popular.

Oh, and EvilIdler, this is all happening in RC1 of the 64-bit Windows 7. I dunno if they finally did something, but the MacBook was doing appropriate fan things with it! Sure, it got hot while I played, but quickly cooled down, and when I was just using the OS, all seemed well.

Ephraim - some beginner tips, since this thread is overwhelmed:

  1. Run away. Often. If you’re going to lose a fight, turn and run back to safety. You have to do this in Demigod WAY more often than other games. The penalty for death is steep, and the reward the other player gets is great. Never, ever, get into a fight you can’t win or stick with a fight that’s going badly if you don’t know you have a big trick up your sleeve.

  2. Teleport scrolls. They’re 250 bucks, and you should always have two of them. The time they save letting you teleport back to base, then shop and upgrade, then teleport back… you save like a full minute on each round trip. That’s HUGE. Early on that can be a full level worth of killing little reinforcement guys, or a full cap capture plus some, etc.

  3. Don’t spread your skills out all over the place when you’re learning. Pick like 2-3 lines to focus on. For Rook, it’s good to get the boulder and then stun with the boulder and follow up with the hammer. Stuns in general are quite powerful.

  4. In the early game, mostly just kill creeps and grab towers. Ignore the other demigods, at least when you’re learning. You can earn a few levels very quickly just killing the little reinforcements and grabbing the open flags. Place your towers right in the path of the creeps and you can kill them while you’re far away, getting XP “for free.”

I was in there for a bit today, but with the Favor still busted, Pantheon hit and miss, and connection (while WAY better) still clunky… Demigod seems to have worn me down. After something like 5 weeks, it’s hard to keep the flame alive when it keeps daring me not to care.

As a minor prediction, this game will get a lot of love/ excitement/ posts/ playtime with a serious rebirth sometime down the road with an expansion or some significant content when these problems are long forgotten. Until then, even if the problems magically all were fixed right now, I think there is too much burnout, bitterness, or lost interest.

Great game, but its launch has made into a hidden gem that will just have to be discovered later on.

Also, learn how to use power of the tower. One of my colleagues is terror with the Rook. As soon as the game starts, he picks up a couple of teleportation scrolls and a healing potion. Then teleports to a capture point in a creep lane with as few enemy approaches as possible, preferably the +20% XP one.

Like this, for example:
A= Enemy Approach
C= Capture Point
#= Tower Level.

      1

A 2 C

      1 2

         3

         A

Eventually it’s 8 tower he can place in a sort of forward half-diamond pattern. You’re very lucky indeed if you can break through to kill a Rook hiding behind that with 2 or fewer DGs, and luckier still if you don’t suicide in the attempt. The only tactics that seem to work is to either gang-rape a Rook doing it, or tempt him to leave the safety of his killing field.

If you’re playing with AIs, you can’t count on your team mates to respond when you ping them for support (shortcut: p), and you can’t count on them to go capping so you can push forward (because you really need to jump from cap point to cap point - out in the open you’re toast), so you’re doubly cursed in SP games. But in MP games you usually can, and if not, it doesn’t take more than a few secs to explain what you need.

When you do need to go somewhere, stop to erect a tower every couple of steps. You are not going to catch anything, so speed isn’t important. What is important is that you can do massive damage while retreating as fast as Rook can crawl, in case you need to. And you will need to. A Rook is never easier to kill than when it is moving.

We got a couple of games organized from #qt3 later in the day. My favor is fixed with the latest patch, and connections seem to be working much better.

Unfortunately, my interest in the game is waning. I don’t think it has the depth to really get into it in the way that a good RTS (or DOTA) does. I’m being drawn inexorably back towards DOTA.

Connection issues are still a problem once the game has started but actually connecting to games seems to be resolved. Favor points was apparently fixed yesterday so need someone else to confirm that.

Managed to have 3 pantheon games out of 3 that I tried. 2 were a sucess and 1 was a 2v1.

All in all way better than it was even a week ago and from the reports further changes due this week.

tals

wow… this game is hella fun.

someone who made the first post should update with names?

I am really digging Regulus.

The game is awesome, its only downside has been it’s issues. If Stardock can nail these and then add the usual Stardock goodness I will be happy :)

The unclean beast gets pretty sick when you get up in levels. If you pick up some items that heal when damage is dealt and you walk into a group and ooze… deadly. He does so much AoE.

I have a code too. First PM gets it.

Edit: Gone.

Well, the connection stuff sort of almost kind of nearly work. Reaching the lobby is no longer an issue at all. Making the p2p connections that can be made, is fast as hell. It’s the less straightforward ones that remain problematic.

Earlier/last night we had a game where Lies and I had to connect through a proxy and I-forget-who and I had [NAT] stamped across our connection.

Lies made two attempts at hosting, both crashed his machine.

I then tried, and it worked. Sort of. In the middle of the game, someone nearly dropped. A short time later we were attacked by an interface-disabling de-sync pop-up from the deepest pits of hell, and the foul thing just kept coming every 2 seconds for the rest of the game. Annoying doesn’t begin to describe it.

Thanks Jason, and Disconnected, for the tips. Going to try those out! I’ve read the manual, but I can’t seem to get a handle on the teleport scrolls. I’ve clicked one, at which point my cursor goes red and I have to select a destination. I tried clicking, both right and left mouse buttons, on the mini-map with no joy. Can you not use the minimap to teleport? I must be doing something wrong.

What’s the concensus on when to start buying items to clothe/equip your demigod? I’ve only been experimenting with the potions and scrolls, not knowing when to appropriate expend precious gold on things like rings, etc.

It figures that people are starting to move on from this :) I’m just getting interested! Fickle, fickle Qt3…

To teleport, click on the scroll then click on a ally location - whether that is the rooks temporary towers, your own towers fort etc. You then start to teleport. If you are stunned in the process it stops the count down :(

For favor items I am finding the swift anklet really helps my Rook, coupled with the boots of swiftness (or whatever they are) he can then at least be reasonably quick.

Re moving on, no you came at about the right time, most of the connectivity issues are resolved and the game is now playable. I’m finding the pantheon a load of fun for its random matching.

I do wish it had voip capabilities though :(

If anyone has a spare discount code, I’d love to put it to good use.

Fired up Demigod for the first time in a while just now. Hit the skirmish game button. It tried to put me in a 4v4 match. One player, however, seemed unable to connect to anyone else. Then the game crashed. Strike one.

Ran it again, went into the custom games list. Only a handful of games visible. Picked a likely-looking 3v3. Entered the lobby after a bit, selected Rook, hit “ready”, waited. The opposing side had only two players on it. After about a minute during which nothing happened, the other two players on my side dropped. I gave up and canceled out. Strike two.

Went back to Skirmish. “No other players are waiting for a game.” Strike three.

I give up.

Have discount code, first to pm etc. Update - now taken.

Yep, managed to get into couple of games over the weekend. One crashed, one got horribly laggy & people dropped out.

I guess I’m extremely lucky? I’ve played about ten games online and only once had any problems (which were all during the connecting phase). I’ve only played one game where people dropped, and they dropped in the last 5 minutes of a 30 minute fight, so it didn’t particularly bother me. I’ve been enjoying the hell out of the game.

Where does your coupon show up?

And I’m stepsister in game, hit me up!

My (lame) friends passed on my 50% off coupon, so it’s now up for grabs. PM me if interested.
