Thanks for taking the time to show me the ropes tonight, Tman (and everyone else who was forced to sit through my fumbling early attempts to master this game).
I’m eager to do it again!

Okay, I just played my second online game ever, and it was incredibly frustrating. I played as Regulus, because he seems pretty straightforward to start with.
-
The game lasted for 48 minutes, during which I died 25 times (and yet, we still won). Each death was 20-30 seconds in limbo, so I spent a good 8-12 minutes staring uselessly at the screen. (16% - 25% of total game time)
-
Most of the times I died, it was at the hands of the Unclean Beast. Here’s how it would go down: He’d run in at me, and I’d try to run away. He’d catch up to me, stun me, poison me, and hit me with his slowing claws. And all this is after I used my mark of the Betrayer to slow him down. What gives? Also, I was using the Swift Anklet (+15% movement).
-
I tried to kill a Regulus on the other team, and he just ran away. I couldn’t even shoot him. I thought I was some sort of sniper?
-
During the inevitable lag storm, my movement orders often suddenly vanished, leaving my Demigod sitting around getting beaten on for a few seconds when the game resumed.
-
Also, whose idea was it to make your character panel unusable when you’re dead? So I’m dead and staring at the screen for 30 seconds or so, and I can’t go over my skills, or examine them to get a better look at the description. I can’t even really watch the battle, since it’s all hazed out. What am I supposed to do during that time? At least you can watch the action in TF2.
What frustrates me the most is that I have no clue how anyone was doing what they did. I don’t mind getting beaten down by people that are better than me - that’s how you learn. But since I can’t really get a sense of what they did to slaughter me so badly, it makes it that much harder to learn. Would it be so bad to be able to see what items they have equipped?
I’ve enjoyed Demigod for the most part so far, but so much of the knowledge that one needs to play well is hidden.
Also, there’s a bug in the chat entry - if you type something longer than what fits into the box, it starts to get all messed up.
I would be up for some more games tomorrow night.
UB is the fastest, faster than Regulus. Also, regulus is not good for 1v1 unless you have mines set up as traps.

There is a really good “anti-beast” thread over at stardock forums:
http://forums.demigodthegame.com/352594
Beast is tough. The spit/fowl grasp/spit combo is pretty devastating. The strat in the above link are good.
I think that is part of the attraction, you all have a pool of items you go for and knowing what these were I don’t think would improve the game. As Rook I tend to go Swift Anklet and the Boots of Swiftness, means my Rook actually has a chance to get away. I forgo my initial teleport for these. I also get the mana hat asap as well as this makes him more versatile.
As to Regulus - OMG those guys are powerful. load em up with mines and he seems unbeatable. I’ve not played him yet but the one I was playing against appeared to be able to throw mines behind me which seemed all wrong. I think they need to inrease the laying time and also the distance to lay.

Thanks a bunch for that link. Really good read.
Wow, that is useful. I still hate fighting him though.
I’ve got a code I’m not going to use… first PM gets it.
You’re right, I haven’t played inFAMOUS yet, but based on his post, Ex-S Woo sure has and he thinks you’re a contrarian. I don’t know, Tom, that guy really seems to have it out for you. Perhaps you could give him a lesson on thinking critically about games?
Okay, okay, as you already noted in the inFAMOUS thread, I was simply coming to the defense of a friend (in what I thought was a lighthearted manner, btw). Your views on the writing are at odds with many others’ (which doesn’t necessarily make you wrong) and my first-hand knowledge of Bill’s strong writing abilities (which doesn’t necessarily make you wrong in this specific instance). Taken as a whole, I felt I had enough circumstantial evidence to, at the very least, call you a dreamy slap-fight masochist…or, um, yeah, words to that effect.

OMG an argument has rolled over into the demigod thread.

To echo others, thanks for that link. Really good read. My favorite bit:
Sounds familiar, although at least I didn’t rage quit. (How we won when I died 25 times, I don’t know).
After a good night’s sleep, I’m less frustrated now. I just get really frustrated when I’m being demolished, and have no clue how it’s happening. I’ll look for folks online later tonight.

I’m still having a lot of connection problems, and favor is once again not being recorded for my multiplayer games. The game is just an insane amount of fun, but waiting for half an hour for a match is crap, as is beating the snot out of the bad guys, seeing that you should be earning 210 favor points, and then getting nothing.
I have noticed that the first game of the night connects reasonably well, but that subsequent games connect only with great difficulty, sometimes taking half an hour of trying before finally making a connection. Typically there will be one person ‘trying to connect to XXX’ where XXX is listed as already connected to the first person. I’ll start rebooting my computer after each match and see if that helps, but damn that’s a pita.
Love the game. Wish it worked.

I noticed that sometimes after trying to join a game where there were connection problems (with or with out my specific connection) I’d have issues constantly after.
Restarting the game seemed to clear them up. Perhaps try that before going the rebooting the PC route.
I too love(d) the game, but it was just way to frustrating for me, and I sent it back. :(

Same here. PM me to get in on the action.
I think that Impulse is really not the best place for us to meet up and plan Demigod games (no offense Brad), so we should either find a ventrilo server we can use to meet up (not sure if clan pdX wants to volunteer their server for all of qt3’s demigod players, I’d understand if not), or we should form a Steam group that we can all join and use to schedule events and stuff, and then move over to Impulse/Demigod when we have decided on a game name and password. Whenever I go into #qt3 it is either empty or it has like one or two people in it that have been idle for hours.
We’ve all become to used to Steam with all of it’s fancy shmancy planning tools.
Also, the GWJ guys have a ventrillo server setup…
You guys know in steam you can just enable voice in a group chat and go to town. Ventrilo is higher quality, but this seems to be veering towards conveniance and Steam anyway.

Great game last night although I have no idea how they leveled so fast. Also is there any word on fixing the achievement issue, as I’m barely earning any favor as the easy achievements are already shown as being earned but I don’t have the points from them.

Just had my first pantheon game that I lost and even with my low knowledge of the game I can’t help but think it was my partner’s fault.
Fortress , Regulus (me) and rook vs UB and TB. I’m constantly on the front lines fighting trying to get my level up and only running away when UB hits me with poison spray. Rook is only going for flags and barely fighting, keeps on ordering me to take flags that are no where near me while I’m trying to defend the ones we have. He even ran away from me while I was double teamed a few times. By the end of the game I was level 19 he was 14 and did not defend our remaining fortresses or even tried fighting the npcs to level up. He blamed me for the lost but I was always out there trying to defend what we had and killing the other DGs which I managed to do 6 times.
