Hmm, wish they’d gone to Diablo 3 Season 7 instead.

Yea, it’s coming to PC. From what I’m told the decision to restructure was made thanks to a major memory ceiling being reached on last gen with regard to the Rise of Iron expansion, which was set to launch in the spring, not fall. Bungie decided to push out D2 since it was behind and needed much more iteration, and took advantage of the Rise of Iron delays to use that as the content stop gap for the fall of this year.

Destiny 2 is being overhauled so that they can build upon it in the future without having to work within the frame work limitations that D1 setup. Right now, the way things play out, they have to introduce playspaces so that players can engage in systems or activities, but it creates a huge barrier that must be overcome on both the networking & design side so, they’re going to do more open playspaces that incorporate towns, outposts, etc into more common areas. This means fewer hardlines for areas and having them be gated by menus. Goal is to have players conducting things & making activity decisions while still in control of their character, instead of having to exit out into an activity hub. Think of how in WoW, you hit a button and queue into activities you want to do all while still playing your character.

Major narrative changes are on board for D2. Both in terms of plot direction, pacing & structure. Major focus is going to be on the Cabal & Saturn. Saturn is a playspace is set to be bigger than all of the playspaces currently implemented in the game combined. This is in large part of the scale of playspaces being redesigned, so it’ll be both bigger & denser with activities. There’s a reason Guardians take the fight to Saturn.

Major changes to the engine are occurring. Their render tech has gone through some major iteration thanks in large part to getting to approach it without having last-gen as a limit. Because of this, they are still undecided what, if any, of Destiny’s old content, both in terms of playspace, areas, Strikes & raids, will be available through D2. There is talk in possibly allowing D1 remain as its own client, which flies against how Destiny currently operates, where as the new content renders the old client & content obsolete.

Live team has been going through some iteration so that they may continue to support Destiny with content after a major content drop, but they are stuck between a rock & a hard place. The live team is trying to support a game running on an old engine with its older tools, whereas the bulk of development is on the engine framework & enjoying new tools. Because of this, the Live team is largely handcuffed, so don’t really expect a whole lot of post-launch content for D1 in the next year.

However, starting with the launch of D2, we will see far more substantial content dropping in the time between yearly releases, as the game & engine & live team have all been planned to support that going forward. Team is aware that they need more substantial content throughout the year, not just at the end of it.

If they do drop D1 content, it likely won’t be permanent - they might reintroduce areas in a more ‘D2’ fleshed out way. So we might lose temporary access to these places, then regain it or have to fight back for control of it at a later point in the plot. This means we’ll get to see older areas or activities through the perspective of the newer content, which also means the older areas might expand considerably by the time we get back to them, since the design goal for playspaces is to now make them both way bigger & way denser with activities.

Edit: New races & factions are planned. No idea on whats happening with regards to classes however. New enemies within factions are also going to be introduced. Take the Sions for the Cabal for example - they are going to get fleshed out in D2.[/quote]

Wish they’d do something about all the fucking red-bars in pvp…

There’s an achievement that is really easy to get (provided you can get 1 person to join you) in the Iron Temple.

So far no luck getting anyone to join though. Guess it would’ve been easier if the game had any in game tools to get a quick group going in the social areas, or even a form of communication outside of 3 emotes.

The “Wall” for the various clans you can join seems to be delayed as well as filled with messages too fast to read through (PS4 Reddit clan) so not much luck finding anyone there either (especially when some players post 4-5 multi-line messages in a row to drown out everyone else… which then cause others to post 5-6 multi-line messages in a row…).

Wonder if they’ll have the same shitty mechanics with Destiny 2.

Edit: finally got it. Initially tried with 3 people, but there was some delay. Third guy left and immediately afterwards we managed to get the achivement done.

So, new iron banner in the expansion set in “Supremacy” game mode. WHich is basically a 6 v 6 except the point is to fuck over your team mates by taking their “kill loot” :)

I’m still amazed that people play like they do not care about winning though, which obviously results in your team losing. It doesn’t matter if the enemy team is a 6 man fireteam and yours is a 6 man scrub team (thanks Bungie), one would think that your team mates would at least TRY to stay alive, considering the enemy team will WIN if they kill you, but… oh no…

Every round is the same: We hold an area and pick them off one by one for a little while, then everyone runs in 6 different directions, even though there are only 2 directions to run in… And we get wiped out for a while, then we get a ‘foothold’ someplace… and hold it for a brief respite, until people run off in every direction again.

It is just so fucking irritating…

I got the flaming wolf head and the jealousy pike. Loving both.

Aw, yiss! Microtransactions!

I want the wolf head, haven’t gotten it yet…

Think I just need to play more.

Anyone know how long the event will last?

This is a fun twist in realm of MP cheating: DDoS attacks forcing player disconnects or lag.

I assume I need to buy the multiplayer PlayStation service to get the most out of this game?

It’s been a while, but from what I remember at launch, they said you could play the mostly single player portions without Xbox Live Gold and PS+. But you do need them for the Crucible, which is the PvP mode, and maybe some other multiplayer too, I can’t remember anymore.

I’d try it without PS+ first, see how much you can do. If you can do everything but PvP, then you don’t really need it, unless you’re playing it specifically for PvP multiplayer.\

I found this:

So it looks like you can only do the regular single player story without PS+. Everything else requires PS+. I remember being mad at the game for shutting me out of the best strikes and daily/weekly missions since I didn’t own the expansion packs. That’s pretty much why I stopped playing Destiny.

But that was well after I’d finished the story.

Correct.

So I tried out the Sparrow Racing League they are doing over the holidays. Man, do I suck at sparrow racing, but it sure is a lot of fun.

So, I have a general question about Destiny. I like MMOs, and realize Destiny isn’t a true MMO. I’m curious if it’s still the sort of game I might like. I pretty much just like advancing a character and getting gear. A little story behind it would help.

I’m probably going to go back to WoW to get my MMO fix, but I’m wondering if Destiny might be a good option.

It’s a good option. At least it was at launch. I haven’t played any of the expansions. You advance the story, you advance your gear, and then the story is finished, and from that point on you play the raids, strikes and daily missions and level up your gear. Even for someone like me who doesn’t like MMOs, it was fun because the basic gameplay of shooting was really fun, so a daily mission was a good excuse to go do more of the basic gameplay that I loved doing anyway.

It’s a good option, though I can’t speak to your timing. Some of your enjoyment will depend on how supportive the community is to someone just starting out, since a lot of the more interesting content still required players to do the work of organizing/matchmaking themselves (one of Destiny’s biggest problems). I’ve been out for about a year so I don’t know how easy it is to find people to play the missions/raids/strikes you want to play. The reddit community was great, I hope it still is, but that’s my only caution.

Yeah, the story and mythos are fun. It’s even better if you grab the mobile app and go through your grimoire cards. I recently started my second character with a different class and it’s been fun replaying the old story missions again. It’s very solo friendly save for the 6 person raids. The 3 person strikes always fill up easily .

Thanks. I’ll check it out.
