It’s a very retro approach, as if still developing in the old MMO days where Dev’s would spend huge resources on raiding content that a single digit percentage of players would participate in.

I understand (if don’t agree) with their not having matchmaking for the raid, but no clue why it’s missing for the Nightfall and especially the weekly strike. I’m guessing we’ll see it within a year or so, just like every other developer who ignored matchmaking on release due to budgetary or philosophical reasons.

Eh, there’s a middle ground. Warframe lets you invite anyone in chat to group, for instance, and the LFG channel is constantly busy as heck. No need to go out the game or do silly things with your friends list.

(It auto-matches for missions on the “normal” map, which includes events and some pretty high end stuff, but not “void” missions or special bosses)

It is a game, i can simply play many others, end of dicsussion when the gmeplay reaches away from my preference for what i consider fun (which is reasonable, not to require outside tools or sites, despite my issues with the game full matchmaking would have kept me playing)

I can also walk out of bad movies, i do not marry entertainment products. This is considerbly better than that since my money was not wasted, i still got 90% of the product, if not more, and enjoyed it.

Fair enough, and I agree with Wholly that the social side of the game is in its infancy and is primed for evolutionary improvements over time. Being willing to walk away from a game is different than demanding it cater to your whims, and if I mistook your posts for the latter that’s on me. There’s a LOT of calls for that, and that makes me sad, because those people are missing the entire point: The fact that you can’t get a rando group IN GAME for Nightfalls and Raids is PART OF THE CHALLENGE.

In his famous “Last Lecture” professor Randy Pausch famously notes that “Brick walls exist to test how much you truly want something”, and that’s how I view the lack of matchmaking here. It isn’t a design flaw, it’s an integral and thoughtfful mechanic. “Alright kids if you wanna win this one you better bring a few friends who you can count on”.

On a fun note, got Crota down with a group of redditors last night, finally got Black Hammer. Woooo!

Xur has Icebreaker this week. Buy at LEAST one. Buy three if you can.

Yeah, the demanding tone was actually lamentation, I think. If I liked Halo as much as Ultima 1-7 I’d compare this to Ultima 8 - a followup that forgets so much that the prior titles got right, and gets a lot of crap noone wanted in the first place totally wrong, and annoyed the hell out of me because they had a great track record prior to the fumble.

Disagree on the brick wall. That is fine and good for a mud run. Dumb for entertainment. Why is one attitude of the game so terrified I’ll play all the content that it throws up the roadblock of intentionally blocking casual play, and the other so intent on making me repeat all the content I’ve done 1 billion times?

I dont even get why marks are capped, or nightfalls give rewards only once, they literally try to stop you from playing the game. That is madness. Slowdown might make sense in an MMO where you want your $15 a month for 8 months before you give up and go F2P and then go bankrupt, but there is no monthly fee here.

Came here to say the same thing. Well, not exactly the same thing, don’t buy three of them. But yeah, 17 strange coins, and totally worth it. He’s also selling the Warlock helmet Obsidian Mind, that’s what I’ll be buying.

OK, for Ice Breaker, I’ll find my Destiny disc and put it back in the drive.

Is there any realistic way to get 17 coins in 48 hours? I am at zero coins…

Only if you have two high level characters that can do the weekly strike on the hardest difficulty and get 9 strange coins each time. High enough level to be allowed into those is level 27 I think? So two Level 27 or above characters.

You can get 9 from the Weekly Heroic on level 30 difficulty (totally doable at level 28 with a couple friends, I should hopefully be around tonight). If you haven’t already collected the Golden Chests on Mars, the fourth one you open on Mars will have one Strange Coin (the rewards aren’t based on which specific chest you’re opening, just how many you’ve found on the planet so far). If you haven’t done the Nightfall yet, Strange Coins are a possible reward there (and for that matter, you could always get lucky and find the Ice Breaker itself on a Nightfall).

Your best bet for another 7 or 8 is to do as many Roc Strikes as you possibly can. Sometimes you’ll get a Strange Coin as a reward, and it’s also a good way to get encrypted engrams, which could decrypt to a strange coin. You can also find Strange Coins as rewards from the postmaster for your first public event of the day, and more rarely, as rewards on the spot for completing public events. I think I’d make sure to get the postmaster reward today and tomorrow, but wouldn’t hunt down public events after that, strikes will be faster I think.

Finding 8 strange coins from random strike rewards and decryptions is possible, but will take a while and largely depends on luck.

I’d say you have two choices.

1: Power level a character of the same class to 20, swap the armor and then be able to run the weekly a second time.

2: Run a ton of Vanguard Roc’s for the engrams since those can give Strange coins as well.

It’s doable, but unless you get really lucky on engrams it will probably be very time consuming.

Also doing the Nightfall is a good idea since you might get the strange coins from that (or an Icebreaker for that matter).

This reddit posts claims that with coordinated effort from two high level friends, you can power level a new Guardian to level 20 in three to four hours.

I’d be willing to help out if you wanted to try this, but I don’t know exactly what my weekend schedule is.

I am not tracking on how power leveling a second character helps. Are coins account wide rather than tied to a character?

Oh yeah, if you don’t have any yet it’s not obvious, but they’re an inventory item just like weapons/gear/materials/etc., so you just put them in your vault to move them between characters.

And the specific benefit of a second character here is that you get rewards for the Nightfall and Weekly Heroic strikes once per character (per week). Nightfall rewards are random, but Weekly Heroic Strike has guaranteed Strange Coin rewards (3, 6, or 9, depending on the level you do it at). So with two characters you can get those rewards twice every week.

And making your second character the same class as your current character means that after you earn the experience you need to get your alt. to level 20, you can just move over the gear you already have and jump up to—in your case—level 28. Whereas another character from a different class would still need all new gear (and the time to level up that gear) to make it from level 20 to 28.

Coins are an inventory item like any other, and can be shared among your characters through the storage vault.

Yes they’re account wide. You can put stuff in the vault at the tower and pick it up on a second character.

And I’m with Moore in regards to needing a LFG in the game. My computer and my system are in two different rooms. I’m not going to jump back and forth to try and get a group together for raiding. Which I actually like doing since it’s generally only once a week.

Epic Xursday for me:
2 Icebreakers (had one, no more swapping!)
Obsidian mind (combine with Bad Juju and nearly always have super available I hear)
Glass house, no idea why I wanted it but I did
Upgraded skull of Dire Ahamkara, goodbye 8k glimmer

To echo the thoughts of others, folks really need to do whatever they can to buy at least one ice breaker from Xur. I already have one, and I’m gonna be buying 2 extras for my other characters when I get home.

It’s, without question, the most important PvE tool in the game.
