Made 26 onPS4. I’m working an insane plan to get this guy to 27, get nine coins and make an alt, get him to 20, swap gear and get 9 more before xur leaves, taking dinner break now. Chance of success at 50/50 now :) anyone bored who wants to help PM id Kadath.

Called off the second character at 2am, went and did the Nightfall on the main hoping for coins to drop there. No luck, but I did get the legendary sniper The Chosen. Went and bought Obsidian Mind, that and the 6 ascendant shards I used for a chest upgrade got me to level 29, total played time 29 hours. Bedtime!

Hah, weird. Merryprankster and I were just remarking that it seems like PSN’s messaging capabilities were once again reliable.

After successfully using every trick we could think of to find 17 Strange Coins for Chaplin over the course of Friday night and most of Saturday, my dreams last night were a fuzzy jumble of Destiny elements and quests.

He was already level 28 or so. So we did the Weekly Heroic for 9. He got the fourth golden chest on Mars to get to 10. Then we did Roc strikes most of Saturday morning and evening, finding five more and getting him to 15. With 2 left, I suggested he start an alt because I thought the two guaranteed Strange Coins for a new character over the course of the story (the golden chest on Mars and the mission reward for the Scourge of Winter mission on Venus) would be faster than waiting for more luck with Roc strikes. It ended up taking us from about 9:30 to 1:00 am EST, getting his alt to level 12 in the process, so it was definitely slower than I thought; maybe we would’ve had it faster if he’d stuck with Roc strikes, but he did it! I felt invested in the endeavor too, but I’m impressed Chaplin stuck with it.

If Xûr sells the Icebreaker any time again soon, expect some hair-pulling-out.

I would like to thank the academy… Yes, without Wholly Schmidt, Prankster, and an awesomely understanding significant other (who, as a non-gamer was both horrified and amused by the whole thing), it would not have happened. It was one hell of a grind and totally a young man’s (which I’m not) game. At the end the pace was tense and the clocked loomed. When it was done, I was exhausted.

I’m sitting at level 12 or 13 at the moment, and I’m still over-levelled by 2-3 levels. I’ve only gone back through a handful of missions, and it seems like I’m still levelling up fairly quickly, although it does seem to be slowing down.

I’m thinking once I have some free time I should be able to hit 20 pretty quickly. If I hit twenty before completing the regular story missions (no idea if this is possible), should I complete those missions before doing any end-game stuff, or does it not really matter?

I have been soloing everything with the exception of the random events as everyone in the area seems to check those out. I haven’t had any trouble doing this. I’ve definitely died a few times but it hasn’t been a big deal. Is it possible to solo through the end game stuff in the same way or is that a complete waste of time?

Anyone interested in holding my hand through the early end-game once I get there if this is the case?

You don’t need to complete the story, but it’s worth it for the experience and for The Stranger’s Rifle which will hold ya till ya get legendaries and exotics. I finished VoG first time with it months back.

The first raid can’t be soloed. The second has been but I think they closed some of the holes. Not sure if anyone has managed to again since then, though it requires high level gear.

I’ve enjoyed soloing the weekly and nightfall strikes, they make for a pretty fun challenge though only really doable on the weeks where a damage burn is active (i.e. a modifier where a certain element does 6x normal damage for both you and the enemies).

Thanks for the info. I would plan on completely those story missions, I just know that once I hit 20 I’d want to check out some of that stuff.

On top of playing alone, I haven’t really been reading anything about the game. I’m not really big on watching a bunch of how-to videos or reading about systems for hours outside of a game. There are a lot of systems and mechanics in Destiny that I know nothing about. I have been collecting materials and resources that I have not even looked at. So far there hasn’t really been a need to. I heard and remembered a few things from a few podcasts I’ve listened to, like people spending hours patrolling the moon for helium coils, so I’ve always picked up what I’ve found but I have no idea why. Will the game explain any of this? I really hope so! It didn’t really explain the bounty system, so I was grabbing all I could until I realized there were only so many spots for active bounties. It’s not so complicate that it would have required an hour long tutorial, either, so I can’t see any reason for this.

I have done some epic grinds in my day for loot, but nothing compared to what you just did. It’s one for the record books. :)
