I don’t know how long you stayed after I left but apparently RYAend kept at it for another 3 hours never getting finishing off Atheon. Because of what you said, guys who couldn’t take down Oracles or didn’t know how to use the Relic and cleanse, etc. I would fall into the never touching the relic group myself so I dare not pick it up. But then yesterday we got another group together and finished him off in two runs, the first glitching out when it only teleported myself. Then we ran another full run and finished in 40-50 minutes or so, the longest bit being the platform jumping section. And I finally got a Vex mythoclast. And oddly enough when I returned to the tower I had an other one sitting in the mail.
I left at about 3:00 AM EST, I don’t remember how much of that time was on Atheon though.
Unrelated, I got my Eris rep to level 4 last night! I have all the gear now to hit level 32 with my first character, and enough shards once I convert some energy. I just need an evening or two of experience to level up the last couple pieces of gear. Getting Eris to 4 feels good though, I don’t feel like I’ve missed something critical on the days I didn’t get to log in and at least knock out her bounties.
Void, Arc and Solar burn in the Nightfall this week. Bring all your favorite toys. :)

So Crux dropped for me today. That was pretty cool
I then immediately upgraded to Necrochasm and ran a strike to take it on a test drive. Here’s some things that people have asked me:
-No there is nothing special to make the Crux drop. You do not have to have the EA equipped. It is a rare, material drop on Hard Mode of Crota. It’s basically the new Mythoclast in rarity. It’s all RNG.
-The thrall explosions happen on precision kills and trigger VERY often. However it’s not the same as the Firefly perk. There is a small delay inbetween the enemy’s death and the explosion.
-Fun fact: The thrall explosions do NOT hurt you. The ones you trigger with the gun I mean.
-The gun comes fully upgraded at 339 attack power. You do not need to level it up after getting it. It’s already leveled.
-It’s basically the same as the EA but with arc damage. This includes the perks with the addition of the thrall explosion perk. So…your mileage may vary on how useful it actually is.
Overall it is a very fun gun. But I have yet to use it in the raid to see how useful it is. I predict that it might be somewhat useful in the Abyss, but outside of that I can’t say yet.
Edit: I just ran Nightfall with it. It’s about as useful as Atheon’s Epilogue is on void burn. Personally I’d still hang more towards Fatebringer on Hive nightfalls.
Yeah, Reddit seemed pretty down on it. Sounds like it would be a good legendary, but not worth using as your exotic.
I had a snow day yesterday, and in between hours of shoveling I got the Nightfall done with 2 characters and Crota done with 1. I now have all the gear to be level 32, I just need those damn shards. On average, I’m getting enough shards per raid to upgrade 1 armor slot, and I have 7 more to go. So, I’m looking at 7 weeks minimum to get my hunter up high enough to run hard mode. By then House of Wolves will be out. That’s if I get the time to run Crota each week, which I often do not.
Do you have three characters? Have three characters! That’s a few more radiant materials from the first chest every week even if you don’t have time to run the whole raid. And if you have a sneaky bladedancing hunter, you can solo a few more materials by making it to the bridge pretty painlessly. I just got the gear I needed over the weekend to get my first character to 32, and by that point I actually had almost enough Radiant Shards already. I’m about ten short, but I also have 30+ Radiant Energy that I can now convert since I got Eris to level 4 this week too.
It’ll be a long time until I get a second character to level 32 though.

I’ve gotten 2 done and half of the third. 3 characters is the way to go. Also, don’t be shy about converting energy to shards.
Have you seen the videos of people crossing the bridge by almost activating the totems and then jumping into them and being squeezed out of the top, launching them really high into the air? Those made me laugh too.
Yeah I’m making it a point to get that free shard chest with my other character. That character has been upgrading its own gear with them, though. I should funnel it all to my hunter.
Oh yeah, I didn’t spend a single radiant shard until I had a complete set of gear for my warlock. I wasn’t sure which character I’d get a full set from first, and I also anticipated multiple equipment drops and only wanted to spend the shards on whatever gear was best. I think I found the raid gauntlets three times with my warlock, and it’s not a big deal, but it’s nice that I got to keep the one with the highest stat rolls instead of being committed to whatever I dumped shards into first.
I also hovered at 31 until I was happy with my gear and then poured out all the shards to get to 32 at once. That way I didn’t use radiant materials on gear I was going to just replace. My stats could still use some small tweaks, but not enough to worry over unless I wind up with loads of extra mats.

If you run the raid enough you’ll end up with more than enough shards. And I did start upgrading my gear immediately mainly because I remembered how few and far inbetween drops in VoG were. That didn’t end up being the case here so I ended up getting multiple gloves and boots. Still only one helm and only just recently got the body piece.
