I don’t think you will be let down by anything except the load times. It is making all my other GOTY contenders cringe in fear. I haven’t been this drawn into my character, the world, or my story in a long time. I think the music is really the unsung hero here.

Just a few hours in and having fun. They really captured the magic of the first game, which is one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you to all the devs, designs and artists that worked on it.
10 hours in, and I am at the first boss fight ( where I rage quit for the night), I am playing stealth w/non lethal force.
And its Glorious! :D
8 hours to go for me… these early impressions are really getting me excited. I think I’ll have to ask for an early finish at work tonight so that I can play for a couple of hours before bed.
Will it start decrypting by itself when it unlocks (assuming Steam is open and online) or do I have to tell it to?

I’m definitely taking my sweet time playing, going hard, stealth and no killing. Having never been a huge stealth fan, I’m surprised how much I’m liking sneaking around avoiding detection.
I know the boss man will give you certain weapons for the first mission depending on what approach you say you want to use. Is it possible to get him to hand you a sniper rifle right then and there, a la the original?

I’m doing my best to stealth things, but sometimes I mess up - and then I live with the consequences. This game has great branching in a lot of spots, and it’d be a shame to always quick load when your plan doesn’t work out like you hoped.

Pretty much this. I try, but I don’t stress, and play it as it goes. Kinda did the same thing in Alpha Protocol, and it made for a great story with ups and downs.

Yeah, I didn’t exactly ace the first mission but I’m not going back to get a better result. This Adam Jensen will have to live with that.
Nice how the world reacts to you. I accidentally tossed a grenade in the streets and the cops came a runnin’. I did reload that. ;-)

I can’t believe people are playing levels a certain way to get an achievement. The whole point of Deus Ex is that you get to do things the way you want to. If you’re letting achievements dictate your choices… this whole achievements thing is outta control. Kids these days. Get off my lawn.
For me, I want to play the game all stealth but just didn’t do that in the prologue. Since I intend to go that route for the rest of the game by choice, I feel why not just redo the first part now that I’ve gotten used to the game and get that little bit of achievement crack.
The first playthrough I always do whatever I want to, and then I redo it to get the achievements. At least thats how I played the Metal Gear Solid Games. However, for those games you did get some in game advantages depending on your achievements, i.e. unlimited ammo, invisibility etc. I wonder if you get any of these things in Deus Ex. Luckily We’re still in Embargourope so the game isn’t available for us yet.

If people want to play that way to get the achievements … are they not playing the way they want to? I understand the point you’re trying to make but I don’t think you’re correct in this case.
It is interesting that when this game was announced Charles was really down on it early in this thread and decided the game was doomed to suck.
Phew. Two hours in (what? I got a shitload of television to process and I’m out of town this weekend.) and this is certainly Deux Ex. The game itself is really quite fantastic - I am also sneaking around and using non-lethal force, and putting it on the hardest difficulty actually just makes the dying quicker when I get located. The character models and voice acting are…less impressive, but that’s the sort of thing I’m willing to forgive. Usually. Though the voices are really starting to grate on my nerves, and the way the sound is balanced I probably would have missed some of the background stuff if I didn’t have subtitles turned on.
One weird thing, and maybe it’s just because most of what I’ve experienced to this point is the prologue (did the entry of the first real mission through the roof, but nothing beyond that), but it feels like the designers intentionally left out the last thing to hide behind before you get to the doorway out of the room. I’ve been doing an awful lot of sprinting for the exit and hoping that I could get behind something on the other side in time to avoid getting spotted. If that keeps up, I might have to start stocking up on stun darts.
Also, I realize that it’s DLC and there’s only so many ways to do that sort of thing, but if you’re going to just give me a sniper rifle and a shotgun, could you give me a locker to put them in? I mean, I’m not going to use them this time through, so I’ll probably just sell them if I can, but now I’m carting around like eight billion occupied spaces in my inventory.
Edit: Oh yeah. And my favorite bit. Whoever decided to just lift the cover system from Rainbow 6 Vegas is now my favorite person ever. More games need to use that cover system.

Hehehe, I hit the wrong key and accidentally threw a remote exploding device by some cops. They either ran or actually hit the deck. I then sheepishly went and picked it up and we are all ok, best buds again :)
I’ve spent about 7 hours so far and absolutely love it. Everything about this game oozes Deus Ex, it’s obvious the designers are fans. From hacking into people’s computers and reading completely irrelevant e-mails, to uncovering hidden areas far off the beaten path, it’s Deus Ex for 2011.
So far no crashes or problems, just a tiny bit of slowdown when the loading icon pops up. I’m running at 1920x1080 with all details maxed out. I’ve got to echo the fact that the loadings times are pretty ridiculous though. Hopefully that will be addressed with the first patch. I’ve played through the first level twice now, once to get a feel for the game and then the second time to try a discreet approach. I managed to make it through the entire first level without ever being spotted or killing anyone, but it’s not something I plan on continuing.
For those on the fence, if you liked the first game then you absolutely must own this one.
