Yeah, third boss is the reason I’m glad I held onto the laser cannon. As I recall, you could shoot it from cover and guide it where you need (like say, the third boss’ head) without exposing yourself from cover.

This is turning into the spoiler thread.

My encounter with the second boss was kinda funny, since it ended up dying on its own due to nothing I did - Not that I have any clue why.

Can I enquire why you posted this here and not in the spoiler thread? No harm done because of the tag, but I ask to understand the motivation and how we can better delineate the two threads. This thread is getting crowded with spoiler-tagged posts.

Once you have an armour-piercing, silenced 10 mm pistol, it’s hard to go back.

On a separate note - anyone regularly using the Heavy Rifle? I’m finding it rather pointless.

I would imagine it is so that people who don’t want to risk massive plot spoilers can get access to useful information about how to deal with irritating boss-fights!

So, since people have decided to ignore it, I decoded the secret messages for you guys - And it seems to be exactly what I though - DLC.

The DLC will add the color blue to the game at very little cost. One other as of yet undisclosed color will be part of a second DLC later this year

Anyways - Since I sent the story to Blue, here is a link

Btw - I would not click the link in the story to see the picture, since I consider it a spoiler - EVen though I haven’t completed the game yet.

DLC and Decoding

I didn’t REALLY decode the message myself and the DLC is not extra colors

I’m not playing the game until xmas, with the new DLC (hopefully on sale) and a new play style, it should feel like an entirely new game!

WHY CAN’T I MANTLE?!?!? RAGE!

Oh, that sucks. Sounds like you’re supposed to make multiple Steam accounts… and buy a new copy for each account. You filthy game-sharing pirate scum.

Of course, and besides Commander Shepard is a woman.

The problem is that the spoiler thread decided to not use tags (at least at one point). I was massively spoilered about the game a few days ago and when I complained was basically told that people in that thread wanted it to be for people who’d finished the game and wanted to have an open spoiler tag free discussion. So a lot of people are posting here and using spoiler tags because we don’t want to have things ruined for us.

That’s not to say spoiler tags aren’t being used over there, just that people don’t always feel the need. A quick glance at the most recent page showed out of about 30 posts, only a handfull were actually using the spoiler tag.

I’m picturing: Adam sneaks into a room and sees a jar of candy. He runs over and picks it up. He looks over his shoulder at his overstuffed backpack. He looks down at his bulging pockets. So he sighs, open the jar and starts stuffing candy into into his mouth.

I’m pretty sure they copied that scene from a William Gibson novel.

Tony

The Heavy Rifle saved my ass in one of the boss fights. I ran out of ammo for the weapons I was using (Pistol and Combat Rifle), and in a panic picked up a Heavy Rifle laying around. Works great with something that stuns. Too slow to be of much use against most enemies though.

I used it on boss whatshername. It was fun. I got her with one EMP grenade and one long burst from the rifle, which is apparently not so much a battle rifle as a LMG. But I don’t carry it around, as it’s pointless for normal situations.

Odd. The heavy rifle was one of my favorite weapons and more or less was my autogun of choice, replacing the combat rifle and the SMG. The slow speed isn’t a factor if you’re smart enough to spin the barrel up BEFORE peeking around the corner. There’s plenty of ammo for it too. Add a damage, cooldown, and laser sight mod and it then becomes just off the hook.

The only place it became a liability was boss fight #3, because of the slow spin up…although I ended up chipping away at boss 3 and then just charging his ass with the heavy rifle to finish him off.

It is also useful for hordes, which may or may not show up somewhere in the game.

I don’t know - I haven’t found the heavy rifle to be worth the space. If anything, my go to heavy weapon is the revolver with explosive bullets for boss fights. I’m non-lethal, so most of my infiltrations are stealth, with takedowns and tranq rifle. It only gets bloody when I get bored, that’s when the pistol mostly kills even heavies with single headshots. Haven’t found a really good use for the combat rifle/SMG yet.

I’ve been using the combat rifle exclusively for boss fights, but I really don’t have any feel for which lethal weapons are good since I haven’t used them enough. I keep picking up big, heavy weapons thinking I’ll need them sometime, but when the situation arises I end up using something else.

This sort of thing drives me nuts. Why must the hero be less agile than your typical gradeschool kid? Why, with bionic legs maxed out, does he only run a 5 second 40 – even I can run that fast. Why is he stopped by a fricking chain-link fence?

I’d love to see an RPG like this with rather more Assassin’s Creed in it.

I just blew nearly 200 rounds of my heavy rifle ammo fighting one guy (not a boss) and it was crazy how hard it was to hit the guy. The thing just sprays all over the place. Granted, I haven’t invested in the better aim augment.

Because you haven’t invested in the right augs yet!

But in most cases, they could just be cheezed.

  1. Anna - haul ass into the vents and peck her to death with whatever is handy. She can’t touch you.

  2. Gunther - The instant you hear his voice, put down a couple of LAMs. Don’t bother starting the conversation, just shoot him when he’s green and run. BOOM BOOM BANG. Done.

  3. Simmons - in my last playthrough, I just ran past him to avoid the conversation, into a side corridor. I made that corridor my DETH MACHINE with LAMs. Then I proceeded to headshot Simmons from that corridor without Simmons ever leaving his spot. I then deactivated my deth machine and went on my way.

So, after crawling around like a little pussy through a good deal of DX:HR, I actually found the boss fights added a little tension and shootery excitement – especially since they weren’t that hard.
