I avoided this one for the longest time since I was enjoying the conversations without getting all the extra information the aug provides. What tipped me over the edge was discovering that you can sometimes get all new conversation paths with the social enhancer installed. Grabbed it immediately thereafter.

I’m on PC. Once I’m discovered, I click on every useful branch (eg one leading to the goal and another leading to a data store) and then I go back and fortify the highest rated node that leads to my home node (and/or my home node). By the time I’ve done that the next branches are unlocked and I go back to hacking. As I get close to the goal node I’m careful not to unlock the goal before all the reward nodes are hacked.
It relies on the freedom of a mouse cursor. I imagine that style is near impossible with a controller. Even with the mouse this system only works if you study the map before you make your first click. Guess the place you’re most likely to be discovered and have your next 3-4 clicks after that planned out so you’re just clicking not thinking.

I got Anna and Gunther the same way. Simmons, I disabled. Lots of tranq darts and then lots and lots of gas mines. I hid under a car while he stood next to me in the gas cloud until he passed out. In an unrelated note, I saved my brother Paul too.
We don’t need three posts about how people killed the bosses in an 11-year-old game. You can debate whether the spoiler statute of limitations is up, but that doesn’t change the fact that no one gives a shit.
Man, I can’t remember the last game that made me feel like such a badass when I pull off a plan without a hitch. And like such a complete fuckup when a plan goes sour and I get dropped by a shotgun to the face.
It’s fairly clear that people do give a shit, or there wouldn’t have been replies to the original post. Nostalgia for Deus Ex is perfectly understandable in a DXHR thread. Getting bent out of shape about it, rather less so.
Oh I admit my nerd rage borders on unreasonable. Setting aside the spoilers, I always get cranky at RPG “here’s the story choices I made” list posts. It’s like watching a photo slide show for someone else’s family vacation. Give me a review of the game or your favorite moments or something worthy of discussion!
I’m kind of mixing posts here since my blood was already up at the earlier casual endgame discussion.
I really wish this game gave you some indication on whether you had failed the achievements or not…

Just a few hours in but the amount of clutter lying around and trying to look through it all to find random ammo is driving me nuts. Is there a reason all these small card board boxes light up with yellow outlines? Am I supposed to be using them for something?

Just means you can pick them up. At least you don’t have to smash them all open like in the original DX (sorry Tim!)
I wouldn’t worry about the ammo. With judicious use of takedowns I am absolutely swimming in the stuff.
You’ll get used to the visual pollution eventually, but I’d start curbing your crate checking now. It reaches extreme levels late in the game. Stick with desk drawers for supplies until it becomes unbearable.
Is there a stats page? That would take care of most of them. The ones that aren’t Secret, anyway (which is one reason why I got the damn guide - it tells you when you’re walking by a Darrow book you need to read or when you need to fondle a goddamn invisible toy car). As far as I’ve gotten, there are at least three achievements you can hose yourself out of to some degree by not doing something kind of counterintuitive (and one that’s just arbitrarily hostile to a play style I’m not pursuing - let’s just say Scooter probably won’t be getting it). Like spending a half an hour jumping around your ex-wife’s office like an angry chimp while she incessantly parrots the same four dialog barks in a shrewd effort to convince you that the dissolution of the union was probably for the better (and not just because of the inexplicable, 5th Element style idiotic collar that she and the one newscaster in the universe seem to share an enthusiasm for) when you’re supposed to be reporting to Mister Surfer Dude to review your security protocols for the impending trip.
Also, don’t forget that when you get close enough to a turret, you can pick them up from behind and face them against a wall. I’m not sure if you need the strength upgrade though.
You do. I tried to pick up two different ones before I got that and was unable.
A stats page would be really nice. Showing you how many doors you hacked, safes, how many hacks in total, how many failures, how many alarms trigger, how many knockdowns, tranq hits, etc etc. Could easily see there if I failed under “How many kills” and how many skill books I’ve read.
Of particular note is the ‘Ghost’ achievement - as a stealth player I aim for this every mission, and it can be a little frustrating not knowing whether this is presently available (is it a mission where I can get it), and when I’ve failed it (perhaps one of the takedowns looked good but somehow he became hostile a fraction of a second before I took him down but it didn’t show).
I’ve been following this thread pretty closely, but haven’t really posted. Now it seems a little late to talk about specifics with my play through, but I will say that, 19.5 hours in, I’m really enjoying this game. I’ve not had any problems with ammo so far. I just defeated the second boss, to give some idea of where I’m at.
Hacking is definitely the most important skill/aug in the game and I’m glad I maxed it out early. I’ve gotten enough Praxis points that I find I’m spending them somewhat capriciously now. If you’re just starting and find yourself wringing your hands about what to invest Praxis points in, don’t. What’s important should manifest itself to you as you play. You’ll know what you wish you could do better.
My weapon of choice has been my fully upgraded 10mm silenced pistol. Even with all of the armor augs, a stand up fight doesn’t usually end well for me, so the pistol is perfect for head shots from behind cover. I also lug around a nicely upgraded combat rifle, the stun gun and a tranq rifle. I recently dropped the submachine gun as I just didn’t have space for it and all of its ammo. I’m not sure where that gun is supposed to fit in. The pistol and the combat rifle are both better options. Splitting the difference with the submachine gun just provides a thoroughly mediocre solution. On the other hand, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the utility of the stun gun, particularly in boss fights.
Okay. I don’t work for Future-Press. Seriously. And honestly it’s not that great of a guide, as the maps are a little hard to figure out, but as far as telling you what bonuses you can get for each quest goal, the official guide totally does that. If I had any clue how far you can go without committing a crime, I’d go ahead and summarize them all into a handy table, but I don’t know whether that’s copyright infringement or plagiarism or some other kind of bad action.
