I pwned him from start to finish in that conversation, it was rather fun how he continually looked poleaxed by each reply.
You chose the wrong option after using pheromones - I won that conversation with pheromones, no problem.
Were we speaking about this just before the release of the game?
Absolutely. I’ve said as much in both this thread and the “replaying Deus Ex” thread. The Shifter mod Jason mentioned destroys one of the basic pillars of Deus Ex, that if you avoid combat entirely, you’re not penalized beyond missing the occasional key carried by a guard. He’s spot on that the DEHR experience system encourages certain play styles while discouraging others, which is a significant departure from Deus Ex.
He’s right again. The 4 bosses you kill are essentially nonentities, from a narrative perspective, whereas in Deus Ex you’d been interacting with all 3 bosses over the entire game.
Really can’t disagree with anything he said. Great game, but with some meaningful flaws. I should also point out that the original Deus Ex had a raft of flaws of its own, as I’m finding in my replay, even if it’s still a great game.

I didn’t see this mentioned earlier, so sorry if I missed it. It appears someone has modded the PC version to unlock the debug menu in DXHR, allowing for a variety of settings to be poked at, as well as the ability to skip around to different maps or watch specific cutscenes. It also allows for the removal of health regeneration.
More information can be found in this thread on the DXHR forums. I imagine this will eventually be patched out, but thought I would share for those who want to fine tune some settings in game. The removal of health regeneration has piqued my own interest.
The Debug Menu allows you to manipulate the game (no health regen, infinite power, infinite ammo, AI options, UI options) and has a “Shop” feature, which lets you spawn yourself augmentations, money, weapons, weapon mods and other in-game items, as well as tons of debug options which you probably should leave alone.

It also comes with a “Map Selection Window”, which lets you pick which map to load. The list also has some “unused” maps like the E3 Demo and GamesCom, along with “Zoo” maps (which are usually maps with all NPCs and items so you can quickly test things), although the only one I could load was the “E3 Demo” one, and I think it’s identical to the retail Hengsha map, except without NPCs. So I’m guessing the maps themselves aren’t actually included.
Thanks Kurina, that might just get me through the end of the game. I’m tired of carrying candy around just so I can use a combination of powers.
EDIT: also disables logos!
I’ve hit a wall hacking the Media Control Terminal in the Hive. I’ve never had this much difficulty hacking something in this game. Absolutely fucking ridiculous. The thing speeds directly to your node within 8 seconds each time, at level 3 hacking. So annoying.

Can’t you just brute force it with liberal application of Nuke and Stop worms? I have a ludicrous number of those.
Anyway, a quick observation; I noticed that the sprint upgrade allows the user to reach a “maximum speed of 7.5m/s”. That’s a 13-14 second 100m. Which is pretty terrible. Personally I’d want a refund on my robo legs.

Augmentations are heavy, man!

Useful tip for speed - hit the run button every 4 seconds. It’s not a toggle, it’s a power that recharges.
I just had an emergently hilarious time stunning the entire Detroit Police station and stuffing them into the vents. Giggling like a loon.

I just went through that section myself and I agree with Demon, in that even though I maxed out my hacking skills some time ago, the game seems to be increasing the difficulty of the hacking mini-game in other ways as the game progresses. So sometimes the speed of the response is much greater then it would have been earlier in the game, or the difficulty of taking a particular node is harder, even when the overall rating for the hack is low.
In other words, a “3” early in the game is not the same as a “3” mid-game.

Man, I would love a System Shock 2 made with this engine…really, I would LOVE it! Get on it, someone, please!
No question about that. I think the security level doesn’t indicate difficulty, some 3’s are much harder than others, even at the same stage of the game. It’s just a barrier, since you can’t hack a terminal above your capture skill.

I can confirm that higher levels of Hacking - Capture do in fact reduce your chances of being detected in addition to opening up the ability to hack stronger security. I already had maxed stealth, and at Capture 4 strength 3 nodes had a 25% chance of detection, scaling from there. At Capture 5, they hit 15% detection chance, which seems to be the floor, and higher strengths scale from there. Most nodes don’t go above strength 4 in my experience, and often tend to stay 3 or under, so I just Nuke the one or two strong nodes along the way and do pretty good. I actually earn more Nukes than I spend, just hacking.

Just thought I’d mention, in case you haven’t noticed, but the soundtrack for this game is fucking incredible.
Yeah, production levels are through the roof on this one. Between this and now The Witcher 2, I’m REALLY impressed with some of the smart, incredible adventures we are getting lately.

Thirded - really loved the game - some obvious things that could have been better, but isn’t there always?
I really love the music, and wish I could buy it seperate from the augmented edition thingie.
Like I said 10 pages or so back: I’m absolutely in love with the soundtrack; the tempo, the vibe, the sudden but non-flow-breaking change when you alert someone, it’s just brilliant stuff.
Kudos to Mr. McCann.

So far this game isn’t really working for me. I’m debating trying to power through it to see if it gets better or not, I’m still quite early.
(Yes, you’re enjoying the game, I get that. I’m just speaking for myself. YMMV, and all that)

The default movement speed is so slow! Jesus it’s slow. I want to explore, I want to run around doing side quests, but it just feels really tedious trying to get anywhere.
-
I’m finding it slightly harder to navigate than I think is necessary. I’d love it at least if the map showed you a superimposed “you are here” even when you aren’t on the currently viewed level.
-
In the course of making gameplay where you can choose alternate routes and alternate techniques, I feel like trying to do many simple things is overly complicated. It’s like “Hey, Mister? Why did you climb that ladder, climb into that window, go up three flights of stairs, get into an air vent, jump onto a ledge, and then climb back down?” “I had to go get a pack of gum at the local mini-mart, why, what do you do?”
-
In general, I feel like the game is “broken” until you spent a bunch of points on augs to fix it. Like the ridiculous “I must be drunk” rifle scope wobble. Or the way I’m currently loaded down with a bunch of side missions I can’t complete until I’ve but 3 more points into hacking, Or the really restricted takedown thing, until I spend more points beefing up my batteries. I hear eventually Praxis points are plentiful, but right now, my character literally feels less capable in some ways than I am in real life, (!?)
Basically so far I’m just not having much fun. I’m trudging (slowly) around the city, waiting to run into an impassible gate so I can play “Where’s Billy?” with all the local buildings again, or waiting to run into (another) lock I can’t hack, waiting for enough points to build up (ooh, I got a praxis point…oh…everything costs two praxis points to activate)…meh.
I dunno. After ME 1 and 2 and Bioshock and Far Fry 2, Deux Ex 3 just may not be the game for me.
(Alo, christ, who wrote that one informant woman? The one who was all “Sho nuff mistah, lawdy!!” That was really painful).
