I initially played DXHR for a while with Steam in offline mode. When I went back online all the achiements I had earned popped up with the same timestamp.
Man, I would have killed for autohack functionality. I mean, hey, as hacking minigames go, this one is probably the best I’ve encountered. But minigames are not the right answer to pretty much any question. I much prefer the simple progress bar/consumable item approach in Deus Ex 1.
Having just replayed Deus Ex after playing HR, I kind of missed the hacking minigame. Also, hacking turrets, which can be brutally effective in HR even if it does cost you XP bonuses, doesn’t have much value in the original DE. The problem is the hacked turrets in DE only attack if there’s an alarm sounded. You can get around this by deliberately setting off an alarm while an enemy is near a hacked turret, but that has drawbacks of its own.
This was a safety enhancement created sometime in the late 21st century after too many operators pressed the wrong button on their security console.

Ocean tanker, island out in the stormy sea, violent interrogation scenes… yep, definitely Metal Gear fans.
Yes, finally, some nice manly chest gameplay!
I’m pretty sure we established a while ago that manly chest play is entirely unacceptable on the first date. At the very least, they better bring flowers.
I’m not really sure about that chest anatomy, but I guess they have a convenient excuse close to hand.

I like how people notice the chest but ignore all the blood on it!
It’s sexier that way. With the blood. mmm… blood.
Somehow that screenshot reminds me of Rob Liefeld… the whole sixpack is above the navel. Human anatomy isn’t really like that.

Dermal plating, and all that ;-)
True Blood is bad and you know it.
Yeah we know… but the priiiize…
Once I finish the game the first time, I’m considering eventually doing another run where I play almost the exact opposite of my current character. That would basically be lots of stealth and no hacking. Does anyone know if it is possible to complete many of the side missions with only level 1 hacking? There was one quest in the first hub that I couldn’t seem to finish without level 4 hacking, and I feel like I’ve used higher level hacking to complete other side quests. So basically, is it possible to experience the whole game without any hacking skill?
Unless you have the preorder only AUD’s, no. There is at least one quest at the second hub that requires you hack level 2/3 devices (IIRC) to get through it.
That is super lame. The fact that I need a fucking preorder bonus to play the game this way takes this to a whole new level of lame.
Having just finished re-playing DE, I thought I’d see what would happen if I tried playing HR the same way. What happened was I died. Combat in HR is much more lethal, if the cannon fodder hostiles get a clear shot at you, you die.
