I have to agree, and the Sniper Rifle is superior to both the Crossbow and the Tranquilizer Rifle if only for the laser.
This is how I felt about them as well. The designers added in these challenging puzzles, then let you bypass them completely with vents that conspicuously run only between key strategic points. While it is occasionally fun to shoot enemies in the leg from a vent and then shoot them in the head when they fall down, if you see a vent, you know it’s in the game only to let you bypass something. The wall-punching fits into the game well. The vents, not so much.

Hey does anyone know:
How do you actually get the Tracer Rescue mission on PC? I preordered HR a few months ago on Steam and I didn’t get that mission, am I completely screwed at this point?
That’s Gamestop exclusive. Which sucks, of course. No doubt it will be for sale sooner or later.

Why would anyone preorder a PC game from a physical retailer? I wonder how many people did that for DXHR. Store-specific preorder bonuses need to die in a fire. General preorder bonuses make sense for the game industry because it gets the money to developers faster, but vendor specific content just makes me angry.

Because gamestop almost always has unique preorder DLC and it is often the best?
This is pretty much common practice these days for any AAA game and somehow i doubt it is based around getting money to developers faster (unless you preorder directly).

To guarantee you have a copy on release day.

Because Steam would likely run out? :P
Because PC is Domed and most of the sales at gamestop go to console people.
Was that mission Gamestop exclusive in America? I got the Tracer Tong preorder mission in my UK copy, and I think all the retailers got it there.
Also, that mission only appears on your second visit to China, just in case someone is wondering why it hasn’t shown up during the first visit.
Yes. Euro/Aus augmented edition got all the DLC. Of course as an Australian it cost me a million billion dollars more.
And then I did the second boss.
You know what this game really needs? A frigging visual indicator of how much health a boss has left. Because it took a half an hour to do, which I fully expected, but the entire time I had no idea how far down the health bar I had worked so that I could tweak things after I died. All that happened was on the last time through, one of the shotgun blasts I pumped into the boss ended in a cutscene instead of me turning around and running like a screaming idiot.
I do feel like a gaming deficient at this point for how long this is taking me. I just can’t seem to avoid sneaking around and poking into every hole and knocking out every dude I can. Though for the record, from the last mission in the second hub forward I have managed to skip a couple of rooms that proved utterly impossible to manage. I’m not looking forward to the Good Soul achievement (which I’d have to get even if it didn’t come with points, because I am Lawful Good in video games).

It ain’t so bad. Just absolutely make sure you have at least one EMP grenade. Cloak and a decent supply of protein shakes helps too.
Any tips for the 3rd boss? I quit last night right when I got there because it was late and I didn’t feel like playing, but the 15 seconds I spent dying once makes me not want to turn the game back on.
reason why
I took the chip at LIMB and don’t have my augments. I figured it would be some sort of twist, but I didn’t expect a cock punch like taking my augments away.
3rd boss
I fought him without augments as well. I’ll repeat what I said in an earlier spoiler: he’s not difficult if you know how to defend against him. The key thing is to get under cover right away. The room is a rectangle, with an inner and outer ring. You start facing him on the inner ring, so run left and down the corridor immediately after the cutscene, and get behind cover.
From now on, you can count on him following you around the outer ring. Just sight down the corridor from behind cover, and look for his shadow. When you see it, shoot where he should be. If he jumps in the air, run, because he’s throwing a grenade. If your display turns red, you’re low on health, so use a health item.
spoiler
I also took the LIMB chip, so I didn’t have any augments. I threw out 2 frag grenades right away, which stunned him, and then dumped 15-20 almost fully upgraded 10mm rounds into him. On “Give Me Deus Ex” difficulty his plasma gun takes off more than 100 health, so it’s a good idea to use painkillers/hypostim to get to 150+ health in case he gets a shot off.
Aside from tossing mines and grenades the #1 late-game problem solver is the machine gun, strangely named “Heavy Rifle” in the game. You find tons of ammo, it deals tons of damage, and if you get the laser pointer and both arm strength upgrades for targeting you can actually make long-distance sniper headshots with this gun. Works on bosses just as well as on grunts!
My problem with that particular weapon in the second boss fight was the spin up time. Could not stand it, and it really doesn’t work so good when your target is both invisible and running around like an idiot. It also has a GARGANTUAN inventory footprint. The gun itself is 2x5 (or 6?) and the ammunition is 2x3.
Thanks for the tips. I will try those. Sure don’t like that twist, though.
