The revolver does a lot more damage, but the 10mm has some advantages. The biggest is that it can be silenced, but also ammunition is a lot more plentiful and it can take the Armor Piercing mod (you can find one in your apartment). I still carry a revolver as a backup because that’s how I roll, and explosive rounds are fun.

and for you XP-whores, taking out two at once gives an extra 45 xp. and the animations are sweet.

This. If you are getting bored of takedown sequences, get the upgrade. It’s fun.

Patching in ads is unacceptable and really downright despicable. You can’t sell a single-player game with no ads then patch them in later. I never would have purchased the game if I knew it had in-game advertisements.
Now obviously I did purchase it, and beat it several weeks ago, so now they’ve got me in the “consumer who doesn’t care about ingame advertising” bin. Scummy fuckers.
I think it makes sense to carry both. The silenced 10mm pistol is for assassinations, you shoot once from cover, presumably get a kill, and then wait for things to die down. The revolver is for firefights. Nothing the 10mm pistol does can quite compare with the knockdown effect of explosive rounds, provided you don’t mind being loud. Wish it worked on bosses, but working on Heavies is enough.
I think for the most part it doesn’t make sense to carry heavy weapons around. Except for the laser rifle, if you really want to use something heavy, it will be available right before you want it. The laser rifle is the one exception I’ll make because its cover-penetrating ability is exceptional for two specific fights.
Except that it’s remarkable how rarely you really get to use it that way. It’s great when the situation arises, makes staying stealthy much easier when you must have it, but you don’t get to use it as often as I’d like. Even if you do the cloak-to-takedown thing.
Being a “customer who writes a stiffly worded letter asking for a refund” would probably more than undoes your theoretical status as someone in a very sloppily counted “customers who didn’t care” bin. And maybe they’d give you a refund.

Steam doesn’t give refunds, so that seems fairly unlikely. Also I did play the game for 35 hours and have the achieve for finishing it. I’m sure they’ll toss my mail directly in the trash.
I just hate the idea that my money went to something with advertisements in it. It makes me itch. With RAGE!

I tried the patch and I still get a lot of hitching with soft shadows enabled. It might be an ATI driver thing.

I think I’ve sufficiently rid Detroit of its oppressive police presence.

I agree completely - and is it even legal to add adds to something that didn’t have it beforehand?
At least in Denmark its somewhat regulated where and what you can do with advertising.
Well, the game didn’t have advertising when you bought it…
Maybe this is the clever new strategy to compensate for the rapid drop in price of most games a few a weeks after release?
There’s some weird stuff going on in this game. I just finished up my run-through a little while ago. I posted earlier in the thread how several folks I thought I had taken out in a non-lethal manner had ended up dead. In fact, I can think of three instances of this that I won’t go into since I think this is a non-spoiler thread. Regardless, I kept going with the non-lethal approach just because it suited my playstyle. I also carefully, even assiduously, avoided setting off alarms or drawing attention to myself. So I fully expected at the end of the game that I would get the Foxiest of Hounds achievement but not Pacifist. In fact though, the opposite occurred. What the hell? I do not understand how that happened at all.

Pogue; You are lucky. I didn’t get either of them and had the exact same thing (in terms of stun->dead) happen. I’m missing 4 achievements to have them all (Pacifist, Foxiest, The 29 Book Thing and completing game on hardest difficulty).
And my second playthrough was supposed to be my lethal one…

(I’ve only read up to page 98 of this thread so far, so this might have been covered already, but in case it hasn’t…)
I just completed an experiment which might shed some light on why people aren’t getting “Ghost” bonuses, or achievements like Foxiest of the Hounds even when they’re sure they’ve earned them. I decided to do the experiment because I didn’t get the Ghost bonus at the “retrieve the typhoon” checkpoint of the Manufacturing Plant mission, despite the fact that no guards had become Hostile, or even Alarmed. The only explanation I could think of was that I’d quickloaded at one point when a guard saw me and became Hostile.
To test that hypothesis that the problem was caused by using quicksave/quickload after a Hostile even, I restarted the mission. This time, when a guard became Hostile (it happened twice), I exited the game entirely and restarted it, then loaded my last save (possibly just exiting to the main menu would have worked, or maybe even just loading a normal save instead of using quickload, but I wanted to be certain that no memory of that Hostile event remained). When I got to the typhoon retrieval checkpoint this time, I was awarded the Ghost bonus, so I think there are two possible explanations for the problems with the Ghost/Smooth Operator bonuses as well as achievements like Foxiest of the Hounds:
- Quickloading after an event which would disqualify the player for a bonus can result in the game remembering the disqualifying event and incoporating that information into the reloaded game.
or
- Bonuses are sometimes not applied due to a random bug which has nothing to do with quickloading.
I hope the latter is not the correct answer, because that would suck.

Don’t believe it’s the case as I’ve loaded many times after fouling things up and still received Ghost at the end.
People with accidentally dead enemies - bear in mind you can unintentionally kill people with physics. I was moving some oil drums out of my way around some stunned enemies once, and bump, a lousy oildrum landing on some guy’s head killed him.

Yeah, I’ve had that happen as well, but with a cardbox box

At one point I got Smooth Operator despite having had an alarm blaring virtually the entire way. It is a mystery.

It sounds like their achievement checking code is totally broken.

So my first real upgrade I picked High Jumping and the Faster Sprinting. I can actually feel like I’m moving swiftly now and can access areas that Heavy Lifting would take a while to do, which I probably won’t need since the jump height off a couple cardboard boxes or barrels achieves the same thing. I won’t be accessing vents behind vending machines just yet.
You can actually sprint quite a while if you time the button. Took me a while to get a hang of, but I’m not seeing a reason to ever get +2.5 seconds of sprinting when sprinting faster will get you to the end of a hallway or some safe spot just as well.
Still not sure if I want to punch through walls :(
