It was irritating that that blocked off that access route for non-lethal players. The other path to stealth in there almost always involved an immersion-breaking “alert then loss of interest” from the guards near the fire escape.

Must have been rats.

Flash bang grenade, walk around doing takedowns as they recover

Immersion breaking? When I throw a cardboard box down a hallway to alert guards from their post, that’s pretty much exactly what I’d expect to happen.

I finally ran into a bug that I think was mentioned here. I “neutralized” the guys at the basketball court and killed any punks that came toward me, but the whole alleyway continued to be panicking. I went down to finish the quest and of course the quest giver was panicking, and then the gunrunner at the gas station + police were all pissed off.

Took a couple of reloads but eventually I “dispatched” the thugs and everyone went back to normal. I was afraid that my quicksave was screwed and that section of Detroit was going to stay mad at me no matter what… which I guess isn’t that big a deal since there’s another gunrunner somewhere anyways (that I haven’t found) and the whole police office is a god damn graveyard.

Same thing happened to me. I just left the area (went north) for a while and then came back and everything had cooled down.

My 14,000th post, wasted on DX3!

Blips I had tried that as well, I even went and continued the main quest where you go into your apartment for the first time, came back out and went to that area and everyone was STILL mad at me.

That’s when I loaded the quicksave another time, where everyone continued to be alarmed, and then I think the 3rd time was the charm where everyone went back to being normal after the firefight.

I did that as well. I got the animation where I twisted her around so the guard slugged her.

Bang.

Isn’t everything in those packs already in the game, except for Tong’s mission?

Isn’t Tong’s mission even kind of in the game already?

Incidental Scenes Around Second China

Isn’t he the kid driving away on the boat after you totally eff up everything in your pursuit to get on that ship where I assume the other announced DLC will take place?

Don’t want the stuff, but do want the Tracer Tong mission. I’m not sure I’m willing to pay $3 for just one mission, though.

The weapons are not in the game at all without the pack. If you have the pack, then I think the weapons are seeded throughout the world as well as starting you off with one in your possession.

The DLC has an extra mission where you play a greater role in his rescue. It’s apparently not that long but has a little story material to help tie HR to DX1.

Man, I love that this game is big enough to do all kinds of scrounging, but small enough that you can scrounge damn near everything. There is not a single hotel room safe in all of China that is safe (heh) from me. The more things I hack and the more takedowns I do, the more XP and money I get and the more Praxis points I can have, and it’s accelerating now that I have dual-takedown, stealth +45% (makes hacking much, much, much more fun), and extra carrying capacity (for those occasional big-bucks upgrades you find). Hell, I have $10K+ in credits only because I haven’t been able to stop fucking stealing everything long enough to make it to the LIMB store to cash in on two more Praxis points.

Yes, this game has me utterly fucking hooked on the aug character progression. I especially like always having two or three points unspent, so if I run into something (like the dual-takedown situation) where an aug would totally help, I can just grab it right then.

I’m playing mostly hacky/stealthy since it seems the optimal way to wring every possible credit and XP out of the game. But if shit goes pear-shaped, I’m not at all shy of blowing people away with my massively upgraded 10mm pistol or combat rifle – the latter actually made reasonably short work of the first boss, once I learned to keep behind cover.

Hrm, in that case those AUDs, Grenade Launcher, and Remote Mines are easily in the realm of “significant gameplay items that shouldn’t be restricted to DLC”

Hah, same thing happened to me. Was really enjoying myself and then Dead Island happened.

I’m torn about the DLC. On one hand, more content in my GOTY (for cheap); on the other hand, enabling publishers to keep doing this shit. Sigh.

I actually think I might end up not doing ANY of the DLC. Because, thus far, it all seems to slot into the campaign, and I’m not sure I want to go back into the campaign at this point.

don’t read this, for serious

Particularly given that the ending that pats you on the back and makes you feel good about your decision is the one where you kill yourself.

ending spoiler discussion

Eh, I expect that “patting” may be taking place because most of the endings are a mix of positives and negatives, whereas that one has to compensate for what a morally questionable über-downer the immediate in-game action is. I found the Sarif ending least bad in consequence (and least bad in terms of feeling like a bad ending for me, the player.)

Now I’m groveling around China with SEVEN unspent Praxis points. This is totally awesome. I just need to scrounge up $5K to be Mr. Goody Two-Shoes (only about $900 short after blowing my wad on two Praxis points that I haven’t even used yet), then I can get on with the main plot again…

Use your Praxis points?

I played mostly in China at my friend’s house before I got the game for my PC, and I’m definitely going to have Icarus landing by the time I get there.

High jumping and fast sprinting are really what I think people should take first if they want to behave like a super-soldier in this game. The jumping absolves the need to move crates and refrigerators just to get somewhere high, and fast-sprinting gave me shortcuts between several rooftops already.

Aside from that I’ll still probably pick up Heavy Objects aug, and I did get Break Through Walls which has already netted me a Praxis point (although I’m seeing now how obvious the “doorway” was for that Praxis kit in the Detroit sewers in Derelict Row).

Try it, it’s a lot of fun.
