I think Qt3 has pretty specific and hard rules about mentioning wares and soliciting piracy - In case you didn’t know.

I believe there’s a simplified version of the hacking on the DX3 website.

I must have not seen them in the rules when I just read them to see if you were right or not. In any case, I didn’t provide a link, and I certainly don’t think it’s a secret at this point.

To be clear, some jacka$$ leacked the BETA for this game. It turned me from having zero (or perhaps negative) interest in the game to pre-ordering it, so for what it’s worth, it was probably “leaked” on purpose. :)

I think considering that they didn’t quash discussion of it on the official forums, it’s probably fair game to mention it at this point.

Yeah, it’s not even hard to find. I’ve seen stuff like this get crushed, and then they are just GONE unless you know exactly where to look (I don’t). THIS however, is just… out there, and has been for MONTHS. I couldn’t be happier though, personally. I haven’t been this excitd for a game since… hmn… Tactics Ogre on the PSP, I think.

I have no idea what’s fair or not - I don’t make the rules, I just know people have been banned over discussing wares, which is why I wanted to warn him :-)

Which I do appreciate! Thanks!

Eventually this kid will want to upgrade his robotic hand for steadier aim, but for now, pretty freaking amazing.

Now this is straight out of Deus Ex 3

Have an extra copy of Deus Ex GOTY edition to gift through Steam, first person to PM me gets it.

EDIT: Claimed

GameSpy: Can you hide in the shadows without using the cover mechanism?

Antoine Thisdale: No, you don’t. That was a sort of early decision – partially because it’s not very realistic, to be honest. We went with [the cover system]: You take cover, you put a physical object in front of you to hide yourself. That’s the main system for stealth. We don’t have [the previous games’] weird shadow system.

So that means players can’t hide in the shadows from an enemy? That the only thing preventing enemies from spotting the player is actual physical obstacles?

Makes sense to me. As it’s 3rd person you’ll have decent camera visibility when behind cover, and the hide in shadows stuff (especially in DX2) seemed like it was stolen from thief without really working correctly. It’s also way easier to design levels when you don’t need to worry about the aesthetic choices made by level artists completely destroying your stealth gameplay.

Ideally, the stealth system would use shadows as a added factor, as the distance factor. It shouldn’t be as “strong” as in Thief (where there is a magic factor of why it worked), but it should be taken in account.

But i really hope the stealth works putting a physical object in front of you, without needing to take cover (using the cover button). If not, the game is going to take a severe dip for me.

Funnily enough, there is actually nothing about piracy in forum rules thread :-).
Just an FYI, not only is discussion on the leak allowed on official eidos forums, there are also few devs discussing the leak with people who played it on something awful forums (in good spirits).

Again, I know this - I’m not a rules lawyer of any kind, I just wanted to warn people since I’ve seen strict action taken against people who’ve taken the advocating of warez to these forums. It of course has to do with the fact that many people in the industry frequent these boards.

So, I was actually trying to be helpfull, not a jerk ;-)

On Qt3, we just ask that you don’t boast about or encourage people to steal from developers, and especially from the developers who are kind enough to participate on this forum. Use your own judgment and if it’s an issue, I’ll let you know. And I do appreciate folks like Razgon taking the initiative to let people know it’s not cool.

I actually don’t know anything about this leaked Deus Ex 3 beta, but it’s a much grayer issue than folks who have bragged to developers here about pirating their game. Although at least have the grace to pretend you’re talking about, uh, you know, a friend who played it. :)

I doubt it’s a surprise that encouraging piracy is looked down upon.

As far as I can see, this talk about the leak has been 100% the opposite, and even the developers themselves are positive about it being leaked. It has certainly convinced me to pre-order the game without the slightest doubt in my mind.

Now, I don’t want to interfere with the “rules” on a site like this, but it seems to me that the one pointing fingers should at least think about whether it’s the right thing to do in all cases - before doing it.

If “trying to be helpful” is what the point was with statements like this:

Where one earth did that come from? Do you know something the rest of the world doesn’t or are you just playing sensationalist cards right now?

Ah, wait - by “early stuff” you mean you downloaded the illegal leaked beta?

Then I guess I have a problem as the reader.

There’s a slight difference between acknowledging the existence of something, and encouraging someone to try it out.

In any case - If you have any axe to grind with me, take it to PM’s. It’s not really interesting for the rest of the forum goers.

There’s a slight difference between encouraging someone to try a preview version, and then encouraging them to pirate the release version.

I can’t say whether other readers find it interesting, but you certainly seem to find it important that people know what these rules are. So why take it to PM? I don’t have personal issues with people I don’t know or haven’t met.

Anyway, that’s my take on it.

Okay, for the last time - I responded to a post where someone told someone else to download and try the leaked beta build. That is very clearly a no-no on these forums, based on previous experience due to the goodwill of developers coming here and respecting them.

If you don’t like those rules, I suggest you take it to Tom who is the boss here.

I have no desire to continue this conversation with you though, since you are just trolling at this point.
