Yeah, I’m pretty sure Jensen shows up as bright yellow for everyone else.

Sheesh, hi-tech makes things boring.
Kind of like how Invisible War used the “see through walls” aug to justify removing leaning.
I do.
I want a Thief game where the guards are highly competent, trained, and armed.
But I think I’m a very small minority. :)
I noticed this thread on the RPS forums, apparently the serial codes for boxed copies will be region locked. This won’t affect digitally purchased ones (such as the ones from Green Man Gaming). However, if you import a UK copy to the US, Steam might not acknowledge it (unless you use a proxy or something).
Is this a first for a Steamworks title?
Is there a release date for it yet? Steam just says August.
edit: oh, never mind, it now says Aug 22.

Without getting too spoilery, it’s an introduction, a longish mission and a hub area with loads of quests. I’ve spent at least ten hours at least on it and don’t feel like I’m that close to the end.
Vampire TM: Bloodlines is probably the best reference point, after Deus Ex itself of course.
Wait, does that mean I should cancel my UK game.co.uk preorder of two augmented copies ? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BULLSHIT.
I just read through the thread on eidos forums, according to their community manager UK version is indeed locked and won’t get activated anywhere else but in UK.
Some people there are saying it is against EU law and Apple got slapped by EU when they tried similar thing with iTunes (locking UK against rest of European Union).
Nonetheless, I just cancelled my game.co.uk preorder and ordered some cheaper “limited edition” from local e-shop retailer. It is supposed to contain the bonus mission which is the only thing I cared about in Augmented Edition anyway. So thanks to their idiocy, Square Enix gets less money from me than they would have gotten without idiotic region locking.
Still, it feels dirty buying the game in the first place, such practices should not be rewarded. But it is Deus Ex, dammit…
Hmm, my “limited edition” from game.co.uk is only 28 quids and the cheapest edition they offer anyway… I’ll keep that order and see how it works out. I’ll be rather annoyed if they do introduce intra-EU region locking, though.

Oh man, I hope this Steam region locking thing doesn’t become common practice. Every boxed game I’ve bought for the last 2 years has been ordered from the UK (almost always half to a third the Australian retail price). I even ordered Starcraft 2 from the UK because I only cared about the single player campaign.
In this case I got a good deal on GreenMan Gaming for Deus Ex, but you can’t always find a good price for Digital Downloads in the Australia region, thats when I go for boxed copies.
I can’t go back to paying $90 AUD for games again.
I just can’t wait to see then complain about sales and blaming pirates again.Fuckheads.
Great, now I can’t buy Deus Ex.
RPS cover the news.
Funny, how after all the speculation of the game, both positive and negative, my major complaint about it is not of the game itself, but this, the region locked distribution.
I am with Paul, I am fucked by this.
The game is 55 euros here (game.es), and 35 euros in UK (play.com).
And the average income in Spain is well lower than in UK, so if region locking should exist, it should be the other way around.
Just when you think everything is working out great, the publisher always pulls some sort of dick move, even if it’s a minor one, for no apparent reason. Why can’t they just sell the damn thing for one price worldwide? It’s digitally distributed*! Rarrgh!
*I don’t care about PC retail, it’s obsolete.

No, the EU caved. They made Apple equalise prices, but they didn’t make them remove their illegal trade barriers.
greenmangaming’s version is NOT region locked, its mentioned by their staff on their forums.

I was under the impression this region locking was only on physical disk, digital downloads were unaffected. I pre-ordered this through Greenman Gaming, and I should end up with a Steam key, which will work fine here in the states, for example.

How did they equalise the prices, exactly? Did they increase iTunes prices?

I recall the UK prices were lowered, but I can’t go into much more detail than that.
