As far as PC games are concerned, to the best of my knowledge prices are already equalised for the Euro area. PC games in the UK are always significantly cheaper than in the rest of Europe. So this would be a case of lowering Euro game prices, or increasing UK prices.
In any case, I’m definitely not buying Deus Ex now unless it’s significantly discounted on digital services. At least 50% is probably the necessary discount.
What is amazing is that not even shops (like the largest one in UK, game.co.uk) had any idea about this, and if someone didn’t notice this and posted on official forums, people might only find out after they received the game. Mind boggles so much.
Also, not everyone wants digital only. Many people still want physical product, for the goodies or the simple fact that this is Deus Ex we are talking about.
hmm awesome.

Looks like they undid that price cut too
Pricing investigations
Price cut
No price cut
Not sure if there have been any developments since then.
And Amazon already has a notice up:
"Region Lock
Please note: Deus Ex on PC is region-locked to the UK only. If you are shopping from outside of the UK, please order the game from your local retailer to ensure it works on your PC. "
What a fucked up world we live in when a shop has to tell you to buy their product somewhere else.
Decision to buy this thing on 360 when I get the time to play it: confirmed.
The best price ATM is around $34 for the regular digital edition using the sites discount codes.
The discounted pre-order price on the UK Steam is pretty good (although I’m sure it’s another few quid cheaper on Amazon UK and the like). Is it a pretty bad price on the Euro etc steam?
Anyone know when the review embargo lifts? Just curious. I guess I don’t need any more reviews to tell me its going to be exactly what I’m looking for at the moment. But still, I like me a good review!

New, big budget games are always horribly priced in mainland Europe.
Deus Ex 3 on Steam:
EU: 45€ / 39£ / 65$
US: 45$ / 27£ / 31€
GB: 30£ / 49$ / 34€
Took another look at the Eidos forum thread and apparently the UK PC boxed version is completely region-locked via Steam activation, not just the bonus stuff as I had initially thought.
Q: I bought a RETAIL copy IN UK but I live OUTSIDE UK. Will I be able to ACTIVATE the game or not?
A: No. Can only activate the UK boxed copy in UK (includes Isle of man etc)
I emailed square and this is how the regions and the various versions that are being released work together.
Languages - English
Release Region - UK Only
Steam Account Region - UK Only
Languages - English / French
Release Region - Outside of UK
Steam Account Region - EU, but NOT UK, Russia
Languages - FIGS* (2 versions here, FG and IS)
Release Region - Outside of UK
Steam Account Region - EU, but NOT UK, Russia
Languages - RP**
Release Region - Russia/Poland (both on same disc but only russian is region locked)
Steam Account Region - Russia with russian codes/Poland
- French, Italian, German, Spanish
** Russian, Polish
So I just canceled my pre-order at game.co.uk. WHAT THE FUCK.
Green Man Gaming promises that its “Limited Edition” for a slightly higher price (30 pounds) sold via download is NOT region-locked… but now I’m not sure if I should trust anything these assholes at Eidos say. Maybe it’s better to skip the game altogether until the situation has been cleared up. The game will be patched and much cheaper at that point anyway.
I can understand the language packs and disc size problems, but implementing a region lock supposedly for that reason alone is bizarre. Why not let consumers choose which version they buy regardless of where they live? So what if a German customer buys a UK version? It’s his choice, etc.
Anyway, I’m comparing the three editions available on Amazon right now:
Limited: £27.99, extra mission, grenade launcher, remote explosive, auto-unlocking device.
Augmented: £24.97, the above plus shedloads of other stuff.
Collector’s: £89.99, the above plus figurine and uniquely numbered box.
I don’t see any reason whatsoever why you’d go for anything but the Augmented edition…unless you collected all the bobbleheads in Fallout 3 due to a figurine fetish. Sixty five of her majesty’s best goldens is a lot to exchange for a plastic model and a number.
Has anyone messed around on the Sarif website? There are files labeled “LAZ.” on the augments pages that play audio. I dunno if this is something we’re supposed to put in order or what. Has anyone figured it out?
Uhh… the region lock doesn’t have anything to do with disc size problems, it’s about trying to win more money in some markets, through inflated regional prices.
The Eidos forum thread on the subject brought up the disc size thing, but I agree it’s either a misunderstanding or an intentional misdirection. The region lock specifically for UK and Russia obviously has nothing to do with languages – there are a couple more language editions in Europe, and they aren’t mutually locked (and why would they be, anyway?). It’s because those editions are cheap and popular choices for importing to countries with rip-off retail pricing.

Amazon UK seem pretty confident
Update on Region Lock
Please note: It was reported that Deus Ex on PC is region-locked to the UK only. Square Enix has confirmed that this is not the case. If you are ordering from outside of the UK, you will be able to play this on your PC.
HAHAHA what? So either they are completely incompetent morons, or they are stupid moronic idiots who changed their minds, either because of the backlash, or because or some possible lawsuit. Either way, awesome (if that is true and not a result of some further confusion, and if they won’t change their mind again).
Most probably they saw the amount of cancelled preorders and decided to change it and play dead.
And here we go, official statement on eidos forums:
Region-locking plan UPDATE
We’re aware of some discussion regarding the planned region-locking of boxed PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and after careful review we have decided not to implement this in the UK/Europe. Please note, this plan only related to PC boxed games, and not digital or console editions.
now, should I re-preorder augmented again? decisions, decisions…

I bet the retailers who had so many orders cancelled will be annoyed… But WOOT!
So, does that mean the DIGITAL versions will be Region Locked? or? lol.
One step forward, two steps back.
