So can you get the augmented version via Steam? It looks like not, but I don’t really care actually, I am generally barely able to finish the basic versions of any given game.
I might wind up buying this day one and then not playing it until mid-September, given other supervening hacking deadlines. Actually I guess I’ll wait until the review embargo breaks – hopefully that will be while I still have time to pre-order and get the whopping $5 Steam discount…
Er, what?

It’s right there, I found it immediately?
These “shenanigans” costed Square around $75 bucks from me.
I had the “Collector’s Edition” pre-ordered for months.
Then canceled yesterday and pre-ordered the “German Collector’s Edition”.
Then today canceled that one and went with the Aug. Edition as I was too pissed to spring for the extra money for the statue in the Collector’s Edition anymore.
So in total Square lost my $75 bucks (price difference between the editions) and a lot of goodwill from my side concerning future purchase decisions concerning their games.
Hope it was worth it to them.
That version doesn’t have the extra missions the publisher is ‘holding hostage’.
It’s interesting these guys changed their tune so fast on the yellow highlighting and the region locking. (Was there something else I forgot?)
Is Square-Enix carefully trying to avoid too much nerd rage from the core playerbase as they try to break into the Western market?
I actually like the yellow highlighting - your supposed to have enhanced vision, it makes me feel more like Robocop. :) I especially like how things (like doors) that are highilghted play along the lines of things in front of them like your gun for example when you face them. Very cool.
So, there is an extra mission? That rings a bell. Bummer. I’m just getting the regular edition. I still think it’s bull shit that pre-order/special editions have content that people who buy the regular version don’t get. I guess I’ll have to pay $5 or something at some point for it.
It’s even dumber than that. I preordered on greenman and won’t be getting the extra content, either. It’s only certain retailers. I take it as a big ‘fuck you’ to their customerbase.
Most people read perfectly, i think.
Most people i know buy physical copies from new games, they are much more cheaper than the digital one.
Yeah, I’m already really annoyed that the pre-order bonuses are only for certain stores (Gamestop and Amazon) and even then, two different bonus sets. Fucking dumb.

I was specifically referring to people who were panicking that their digital copies wouldn’t work in the US if purchased in another country (Green Man Gaming, specifically). The concerns about physical copies being region-locked were completely legitimate.
Kinda neat behind-the-scenes interview with some gameplay examples.
Upon further viewing, not “kinda neat” but rather “very cool”
Not only is it an extra mission, but (at the risk of making spoilerbabies cry) I believe it features Tracer Tong. So they’re fucking people over with fan-service content.
It’s only fan service if they keep the same voice actor.
J.C. Denton, in the fresh. (Okay I don’t really know if he’s the one that said that.)
They also included possibility to change FOV after people asked for it.
Truly, they were very accepting of people’s requests and all that. They built VERY good customer goodwill.
And then they flushed it down the toilet with a lot of people yesterday.
Is it okay if knowing I miss a mission featuring Tracer Tong makes me cry because I wanted that?
It seems unfair to blame Eidos Montreal for this region locking stuff, as it’s obviously a decision made by Square Enix, the publisher, and not them.
Well, obviously it is not lead designer’s fault that some idiot from squeenix thought it was a good idea, but they are altoghether one company.
And this is why the new spoiler tags won’t work. Even now that they’re implemented, some people will just “risk” it.
Note that I don’t even know what you were talking about, so I’m certainly not crying or anything.

It’s not really much of a spoiler considering the mission is called “Tong’s Rescue”.
