Fine. I’ll buy it, since everybody loves it (that’s a link to the Google feed proxy, since I can’t go to regular MTV). And I was doing so well. The part that got me was where he said that any fan of the original game would probably be satisfied. I’ll admit that I never got past Hong Kong because I was in college, busy, and also the game was getting a little boring at that point, but all the way up to that it had been an incredible experience. I’m going to have to take a frigging month off of work to clear my backlog.

And breathe out. Phew.

Huh. I had completely written this off but those reviews have damn near convinced me to buy it. I might wait for the hivemind review first.

H.

Oh wow…

I just realized what this means

Thief 4 may actually be good!!!

Its good to be a gamer.

Yeah but I took all that time finding the link!

Yeah, now we feel bad for making you come into this thread and reading it… oh, wait. :)

Love this quote from the Eurogamer review:

My biggest concern now is the boss fights. I hope people don’t endlessly bitch about them like they did in Alpha Protocol. I’m a boss fight apologist (or ignore them) so I’d rather talk about something else.

I eagerly await the boss fight skip mod.

Are there mod tools for the game? Maybe someone will release a mod that removes sticky cover, third person takedowns and adds a lean key (:

sigh… havent we been over this for about 20-30 pages?

The game is out - it has sticky cover, third person takedowns, and no lean key and everyone seemingly loves it according to the reviews. Deal with it.

I have dealt with it, I’m going to purchase and play the game regardless, given the praise it’s getting. Doesn’t mean such a mod couldn’t make it even better.

I assume people that haven’t played it want the lean functionality - you just don’t need it.

Let me get this straight: you want to remove the cover system, which (presumably) has a nice leaning mechanic built in so that you can duck behind a box in first person view and manually lean out? Why?

I can’t decide whether to do a no-kills run on my first playthrough. I don’t usually bother with that but I like to mix up my habits. On the other hand, I’d like to check out the deadly takedowns and play with some guns too. I could do that in a second playthrough but there’s always a risk I won’t want to replay the game.

Maybe I’ll stick to my usual jack-of-all-trades build for these types of games: mostly stealth and hacking, but some shooting when I feel like it too. Then deal with a second build if I get to that point.

Hi, welcome to the thread. I see you have a lot of catch-up reading to do.

Well, technically the cover system doesn’t need to be removed since I can manually ignore it by not pressing the stick to cover key, assuming there is one and it’s not automatic by distance to cover.

The reason why I prefer not having a third person view is that it removes some of the tension and immersion, especially during stealth sequences. A lean key is just a useful feature in a game in which you stay in first person all the time.

I’m not saying it’s wrong for a game to have you go into third person, I just really don’t like it, as a matter of personal preference. I’m also hoping I’ll be able to silently kill enemies without doing the third person takedowns (with the silenced pistol and all).

I certainly hope that it’s worth playing a few times, so that said I think for my first time I’ll mimic my first time in DX. I went with rifles (sniper mainly), hacking and health as my primary skills. Whatever DX3 has along those lines I’ll probably pick, too.

Yeah I am very much looking forward to this game and expect to love it, but some of the design decisions I am really not a fan of, like belgerog - third person takedowns? WHY! I want cool first person melee! Sticky cover? WHY! I want to stay first person with my body modeled!

Basically why Arkane’s Dishonored excites me even more than this, I am sure awesome, Deus Ex game.

I’ve gotten a little Ghost Battlefield: Call of Modern Recon burnout, so it’s nice to play something that doesn’t do so much run-and-gun body piling. I like the idea of being a ghost – slipping around guards and cameras, knocking someone out if I need to. (Although I’d still like to see a game of this style that treats non-lethal takedowns like temporary effects. It should be more difficult to complete these objectives when subduing people instead of killing them – an additional challenge, instead of just a more palatable approach.)
