OK. They were not kidding about the load times. I had enough time after dying to open up the browser, go to Qt3, log in, and type this message. Sheesh. I may have to rethink the harder difficulty level.

I clocked it at 27 seconds.

hmm really? load time is really negligible, compare to 360 that is.

Yeah, I’m not noticing load times as particularly an issue, at least from level to level. I haven’t died yet, though.

The graphics are interesting, though. Good, but not overwhelming or anything. A notable lack of gloss or reflection, it seems. And the graphics options are different from what I’m used to so I’m not sure where to adjust to get different effects, but it doesn’t really seem like I’m missing anything at the settings it auto-generated either.

That’s the odd part. Level to level, the load times are fine. Going from main menu to a load is fine, too. Die and restore from a save (including quicksave)? 24-26 seconds every time, for me.

Otherwise… damn. It feels like Deus Ex. The music is right, the atmosphere is right… everything is right so far. I heard this is a reboot of the series, so now I’m even more excited for what’s to come.

Also tell me the protagonist doesn’t sound like Pogo. Go on. Try it with a straight face.

I took a punt on the £24 one on Asda Direct. The illustration is of the augmented edition, though there’s some confusion as to whether that’s what will arrive. But it’s a good price anyway.

I’m actually away from Thursday evening until Monday, which made me not worried about release day delivery and go for Asda. But thinking about it as I write this, if it’s likely to not be an augmented edition then I figure I could go to Amazon and get it delivered to where I’m staying ready to play with the free time I have on Monday afternoon. Hmmmm…

Talking about setting the bar low :P :P

The problem is not having a loading level time of 30 seconds, the real problem is the load system isn’t aware when it’s loading the level already being played. In that case, it should use a faster system. 30 seconds if it does have to load a different/new level, 3-6 seconds if it’s the same level.
This is not the first game with this problem, over the years i have seen the same mistake a few times.

I think there was just pretty much no stock and you got lucky. You git. :)

I’m cautiously optimistic. It might be a AAA game i want to buy(Football Manager being my only for sure AAA purchase each year). I look forward to all you chaps giving feedback to help seal the deal(or give fair warning).

This may be a dumb question, but can you register the CD key from a physical version with Steam? I am assuming yes since it uses Steamworks for saves, but as they say, better safe than sorry.

Hah! Possible. But confusion reigns over at HotUKDeals. And the product I ordered has since disappeared from the Asda Direct website. It’s a first-world problem of the most vexing sort.

Worst case: Asda version is standard, free delivery ends up not arriving until the back end of next week.

Best case: Asda version is augmented and arrives early next week.

Fear of the worst case has me hovering over the trigger on Amazon Prime’s Limited Edition as we speak. I never end up actually looking at all the special edition tchotchkes anyway.

EDIT: And yet! A quick check of Amazon saw the Augmented Edition appear in one of its brief availability windows. So I’ve snagged it there. £10 more than at Asda, but quicker delivery and peace of mind. You can all breathe easily now I’m sure. If you go now JM you might be able to get one.

You’re an even luckier git - it’s gone again.

Seem to have possibly found a few elsewhere, will see…

JM’s birthday present is in the bag, as I managed to snag a pre-order at shopto.net, who I’ve got an account with but mysteriously never ordered from. Oh well.
The nice thing is that they guarantee it delivered on the 26th (retail release in the UK), first class and signed for for free, or they add £3 to your store account. Can’t argue with that!

Cyborg-arm high five!

What a fantastic site, thank you!

This is the greatest game since Deus Ex.

Any comparisons to the PC vs PS3 vs XBox screen shots?

I took a long look at the “play” button on my Steam copy this morning. Then I went to work like a chump.

I TRIED to go to work today. I really did. But last night my car decided that it really wanted to go into the shop. So I thought, no, I’m a good worker, I’ll just take my bike into work this morning. 2 miles into the ride, the back tire blows out. I walk the bike home and call in sick.

I didn’t ask for this…

A heroic effort. You can’t fight fate.
