Huzzah for being a poor college student! Means I get to play DX all day!

Sigh.

Really excited for this one. Gonna be a long day at work, but I’ve already let the wifey know that tonight the big screen will be occupied by Deus Ex. Bought her a new book for the Kindle app on the Ipad so she’ll be engrossed in that.

Come on 5:30!!

You must not be THAT poor.

Of course, it’s glitchy on my machine, frequently locking up the video card when it goes to play tutorials/cut scenes. Hooray!

That sucks. What card? I assume you double checked your drivers…

Pray, tell us more. Us luddites in the old world are not able to enjoy this fruitiness yet.

I.e. is it a horrible port (Think Saints Row 2 PC) or is it just your computer being annoying?

Poor Shimarenda is similarly fated. He has to take off work early this afternoon to drive me to the dentist for a root canal (I’m assuming I won’t want to drive afterwords). While the dentist works on me, he can pick up his copy from GameStop, and naturally he won’t want to go back into work after driving me home, because the patient might need his assistance. ;-)

I loaded it up this morning just to take a look and had zero problems. Intel-chipset. ATI graphics card.

As for the game itself… first impressions are strong. I was hoping for Deus Ex for this generation and by all accounts, this game delivers that. The look, feel and music is all Deus Ex. It strikes the right chord right away.

Will post additional impressions as I get into it.

Yeah, for impressions I put about 2 hours into it and it’s just amazing. If anyone touched the beta (PC) it’s gotten some UI love and is even better looking, now that many of the DX11 stuff that didn’t seem to work (on my 570 GTX anyway) does work now.

I’m rolling different this game as far as play style (less shooty, more stealth) and I’m playingon the hardest difficulty (recommended - you can bump it back down during the game if you get stuck) and it’s brilliant so far, in how different the first 2 hours are this play through vs a month ago.

Nothing quite as scary as getting noticed by armed guards when your only weapon is a trang gun and your playing on hard where just a few shots takes you out. Intense. I’m pretty glad I didn’t get any of the pre-order packs, it’s actually more fun starting with less and going from there.

Amazon has very nicely put my augmented edition order into “shipping soon” status as of last night despite the fact their very own page for this version shows “not available”, so now I can’t cancel it and get the game from somewhere else. So much for release-day delivery.

Of course. It’s PC gaming. :) Sucks for one person, works flawlessly for someone else - that’s pretty standard.

Anyway, I’m sure it’s my machine/my fault/whatever. Just need to stumble across the magic spell that will make it work…

Heads up for anyone that tried to use a Chase credit card to buy the game from Greenmangaming. When I attempted to do so, Chase fraud protection kicked in and stopped the sale. I used Paypal instead. Chase called later to verify that it was me using the card. I indicated that it was me using the card and the automated system indicated that I could reattempt the transaction if I still wanted to purchase the item. Obviously I did not do so as I’d already paid via Paypal.

So I checked my statement online today and while there was no transaction listed for GMG, Chase had still charged me a $5.18 “foreign transaction fee”. I sent a message to customer service asking that the fee be removed as I had not actually completed any foreign transactions. I’ll let you guys know how that turns out, but I’d certainly encourage those of you that might’ve done the same as I did to check your statements. Also, I had no idea there was any extra fee associated with “foreign transactions” when using my Chase card, so heads up on that as well.

Edit: Whoops! I had completely forgotten that I bought show tickets and a hotel stay in Windsor for my wife’s birthday. That’s probably where the foreign transaction fee came from.

I think it’s called an XBox.

I’m glad you figured that foreign transaction thing out. I used Chase (and yeah, what a fucking PITA) and I had JUST enough cash to fork over to my wife to cover the transaction. If she later found a $5 charge for a second fee, she’s have been spitting nails. At ME.

You can buy clothing? Ok, that’s odd.

I don’t get into clothes very often, but that long sleeve shirt looks really nice.

I’d be interested in any reports on how well the PC version runs on lower-end machines. I’m pretty near the listed minimum specs processor-wise (running a C2D 6600 still) which is my prime limiter, as I’ve got an ATI 5700-something.

I may end up waiting till I get an upgraded machine together later this year for Skyrim, but my wallet could probably be convinced otherwise.

At least it’s subtler than your usual merchandising clothes. I’d want to wear something that evokes a style, not something emblazoned with “SOME GAME” text and a website address.

hehe…The universe decided this one for ya.
