Played for a couple of hours this morning, so I didn’t get into any real open world areas, but so far so good. I’ve taken down maybe 15 dudes and haven’t even fired my (stun) gun once. Stealth seems pretty good, even without any upgrades.
No tech issues, although loading savegames is indeed very slow, taking maybe 25-35s. I hope loading saves doesn’t get slower later in the game when it actually has variables to load.
From a few pages back (this thread moves fast).
From the RPS article…
What could be considered a spoiler
It’s a genuine shame that your companions’ feedback based on your playing style all but dries up after the very first mission
At first I thought they were talking about the original Deus Ex in that sentence. That was my biggest disappointment with the first game. The first New York section showed so much promise with the feedback you got as a player, but then you could play the rest of the game murdering people or being careful and not hurting anyone like I did, and just never got any more feedback on it. Looks like the new game carries on that same tradition.

How does one adjust the FOV - config file? I think it’s OK, but a friend of mine is having motion sickness. Is it better to widen or narrow it in that type of instance?

FOV can be adjusted right in the options. Default is 75, I set mine to 90.
For motion sickness, if you have a widescreen monitor, 90 is actually better than 75.

Is there a way to skip through conversations? The obvious stuff (space, left-click) doesn’t seem to work.
space was working for me - it skipped the currently spoken dialog. ESC gave me an option to skip movies.
Gamespot review 8.5
The Good
Varied mechanics allow you to accomplish missions the way you want
Evocative futuristic atmosphere
Engrossing story with themes that resonate
A long adventure that invites replay.
The Bad
Poor boss fights remove the element of choice
Long load times, dated facial animations, and other technical drawbacks
Weak AI detracts from both the shooting and the stealth.
Does the game keep track of how many people you pass by through stealth, and then reward you with xp for sneaking by them? Because since you get xp from killing and taking down people, it would seem you’d get more xp through combat and engagement rather than stealth if it doesn’t do this.
I have this issue with some FPS. FOV changes saved me on a number of games in post-CRT world. Moment of shame: I own but have never played any of the Deus Ex games. I am completely caught up in the hypeal wave for this though.
I’d been wondering about this myself. I tend to like playing gun toting maniac characters as opposed to stealthy sneakers, but I was worried
Can’t imagine how this is a spoiler
that I’d get hit with some negative consequences if I just went in and murdered everyone. I’m sort of relieved that the game doesn’t make any judgment on that one way or the other.

A buddy just sold his DLC from his Amazon pre-order on ebay for $25… amazing.

Whoever bought that is going to be kicking himself when it goes up for $3 on Steam in a month. Either that, or he’s so loaded it won’t make a difference.
The amazon edition comes with the ‘tactical enhancement pack’, which is a silenced sniper rifle and a shotgun. The Gamestop edition comes with the ‘explosive’ pack, which gives you the game’s only grenade launcher, the only way to get remote activated explosives/mines, and a special mission with Tracer Tong.
If you aren’t unlucky enough to be in the US, all of those bonuses are included in the ‘Augmented’ edition. In the US, they were torn out to be given to retailers as exclusive bait. Thanks, Square. Fuck you very much for that, from the bottom of my heart. I’m currently trying to find a way to get my hands on the tactical enhancement pack, because the absence of a silenced sniper rifle is going to seriously reduce my ability to play through with my preferred tactics. This shit with retailer exclusive DLC really, really sucks.
Speaking of which, if anybody finds a way to get their hands on an extra code, or generator, or what have you for that DLC, shoot me a message? Be kind to the poor sneaky guy without his silenced rifle. :(

Don’t forget the automatic unlocking device, which I assume to be a lockpick on steroids.
If patience is an option, I am utterly and completely certain that all of this content will be available for purchase once the presale exclusivity window clears. I have a hard time imagining a company stupid enough NOT to sell these things to people that want them. For L.A. Noire (the last game I had this particular issue with), I think it was somewhere between a couple of weeks and a month before all that stuff became purchaseable.
I’m betting the people that preordered the game and/or ran out to get it on the ship date are the same type who don’t want to wait a month to get the DLC.
Unfortunately, the majority of these preorder exclusives never actually show up as purchasable DLC at all. LA Noire was the exclusive, not the rule. I’m hoping someone finds a way to generate codes, as they did for the vast array of preorder and promotional gear in Mass Effect 2.

Fortunately we’re dealing with Square Enix, who released both the Just Cause 2 and Kane & Lynch 2 retailer-exclusive preorder DLC on Steam shortly after the release of each of those games.
The content you are talking about (except the mission) is all in the game already, it’s just that you can START with it in your inventory. There are sniper rifles in the game (and presumably silencer mods) for example, you just won’t START with one.
