I used the enchantress for a while, but I went back to the templar. I can’t really see the other guys ever being as useful as the templar except perhaps the Scoundrel (who I assume is mainly a dps class) in a pet-centric Witch Doctor. However if the Templar’s AoE life regen affects the pets, then again he might be the only reasonable choice.

The templar has been the way to go for all my characters. A real life saver on many occasions! The extra DPS from the other two (even with some cool skills and conversations) just doesn’t stack up in comparison.

That doesn’t align to my experience. I got tons of upgrades between 61 and 69. I probably upgraded each slot 2-3 times. The weapon was huge, too. Then at 70 you replace everything again, except for legendaries with unique effects you just can’t give up. But they don’t call it random for nuttin’.

I use Enchantress with my barb. I love her charm skill on trash-packs.

For my wizard and crusader, I use the Templar. Both of them have survivability problems that I don’t seem to have on the barb, so I need that extra healing and occassional taunts.

Templar is easily my favorite, especially since I found the legendary item designed for him that let’s him use all 8 of his skills. He’s amazing now.

The templar’s healing is the safe bet, but I’ve been using the scoundrel as extra DPS on my witch doctor as I level up, and it’s worked out pretty well since the pets keep mobs busy. His chit-chat is also pretty entertaining. I especially enjoyed his ongoing comments regarding how stupid the layout of the keep depths is in Act III. Points to Blizzard for poking fun at themselves.

Wait? WHAT?!?!?! Link?

It is indeed awesome.

Here’s a pic of it for you. You can see all eight of his skills are active, and I can vouch for the fact that he uses them.

is it possible to respec follower abilities?

Templar, sadly. I WANT to use the others, but that healing and regen and tanking is just too useful. Give him a good shield, some jewelry, and a kick-ass weapon (generally one your character can’t use or has leveled out of) and he’s good to go. I try the enchantress and scoundrel once in a while, but their killing ability just doesn’t seem that effective.

Yes, you just press a different button in the follower screen.

That’s amaaaaaaaaazing, Dave.

O_O

O MAH GAWD!

double post of excitement and interwebs failures.

Templar for me too. My Witch Doctor needs another melee tank to block foes. All the other followers want to hang back and plink with their ranged attacks. Hey! Jackasses! That’s MY job!

The Enchantress has some neat abilities, but the will of a Templar is stronger!

Thanks, Brian. I got incredibly lucky with that item twice. The first bit of luck was obviously finding it, but the second was how well it rolled. The only stat I thought was useless was 725 Int, so I changed that to Str at the mystic. And having him able to use all 8 skills is so nice that I’d rather duo with my Templar than almost any human player. His taunt, heals, slows, resource generation, knockback, and stun add tremendously to my survivability while I deal damage.

There is really basically no question that the templar is the best for all classes.

The sorceress will give you a tiny survival boost and some decent CC.

The scoundrel will give you a little DPS boost.

The templar gives you a nice heal, a passive bonus to health regeneration and either another heal or a nice resource regeneration boost.

I try to use one of the 3rd class followers every so often, but eventually the desire for a more interesting follower falls behind the desire for an effective follower.

My one complaint is that followers seem to die ALL OF THE TIME after the expansion. My templar is using a 68ish legendary shield and weapon too. Sure that isn’t as good as 70 legendary obviously, but he should not be dying near instantly on torment 1. I can’t even imagine how bad he will be once i start up higher level torments.

The other type of legendary relic makes your follower invulnerable.
