Up to a point. Most wiz players, myself included, feel that the class peaks around T3 or 4. It’s really difficult to field a T6 capable wiz without the Wand of Woh and the supporting gear needed for the chainpocalypse build. I don’t have that wand, so I’ve been stuck in T3 for a long while now.

The plans have never been a drop as far I as remember. You always just buy them off the girl in Act II I think. I remember something with Act III but that doesn’t seem right.

I think Squirt at the Hidden Camp?

Holy crap. On Torment I solo bounties I am engaging 2-3 groups with 2-3 elites and I’m surviving–vaulting around like a crazy endless-Hatred-generating bunny rabbit of doom.
I have seen RNGesus and he is the light and the way.
SoJ and RRoG in the same bounty run. The SoJ rolled like ass (why is area damage a main stat), but still…
The RROG rolled pretty well. Rerolled it into int/vit/crit chance(reroll)/attack speed

How many caches did you have to go through before you got that?
Looks like about 150 caches.

So…my friend says I should not have rerolled the +dmg on my two 1h crossbows to +fire dmg and modified +vit into a +CHD instead. I guess I was stupid. Is it because the ability rune modifies my weapon damage into an element already?

Fuck! Looks like +elemental dmg % doesn’t modify +elemental dmg weapons. Fuck. Now to wait for RNG to bless me with another set.

Sockets on weapons is king. Also +elemental dmg% is by using the skill, not the weapon elemental damage which I heard is actually bugged and if possible, such as you already have sockets on the weapon, you want plain white damage and not fire, arcane, cold, etc damage on weapons.
Yah, all elemental damage is bugged, and blizz is supposedly working on a fix for it. “Black” damage on weapons used to be bugged to give way more damage than was intended, and used to be the go to when the AH was around. Once they fixed that, people realized that ele damage wasn’t receiving bonus values, and so once again, plain damage is king. For instance, if you have a weapon with 1000-1200 poison damage, and it also has 10% damage mod on it, the damage mod currently does nothing.
It will be something that will probably get fixed fairly soon, as blizz has made a post about it, so may not be worthless. Once they fix ele damage on weapon to receive bonus, it will change quite a few things about weapons and builds. Should be interesting.
It’s a drop according to wiki: Plan: Staff of Herding (db)-- To teach the recipe to Haedrig. Drops randomly from Izual, Act 4. - See more at: http://www.diablowiki.net/Whimsyshire#sthash.YWDpCOWM.dpuf

I just started playing my 70 wizard instead of my DH, and it is SO much less frantic, haha. I feel like I have so much more control, with less DPS and toughness. :(
This is correct. The plans you can buy are upgrades for harder difficulties. You can’t buy the original plan, must be received from Izual.
Right, my DH has Pus Shooter, doing poison damage, but the actual element depends on your skill description…which is a weird system.

I’d suggest going the crafting route for those disappointed at not getting specific or ‘useful’ drops. Crafting mats drop very regularly now, so going for crafted sets is actually viable, and it’s a nice break from the bounty/rift grind. Aughild’s / Born’s is very good; Reaper’s Wraps are a big upgrade for most people.

I have over 50 paragon levels, and I cannot remember a single set of legendary plans that has dropped for me in all the time I have been playing post-level 70. The only plans I have received are the ones for the gemstone upgrades.

Reaper’s are basicallyguaranteed. I’ve heard rumors of a vendor selling set/legendary plans, but it’s not something I’ve investigated since I’ve had the opposite RNG experience and have pretty much every set plan ever.

Eh? Both the Aughild’s and Born’s set bonuses are complete non-events. They are green, so they have a better stat budget than yellows, though.
Reaper’s Wraps are extremely strong for many builds, agree on that.

Yes, I do have Reaper’s, which I believe are the guaranteed drop from Malthial (or whatever his name is).
Unfortunately, when I last checked (which was less than a week ago), the drop you need to make it is bugged and thus the drop is much rarer than it is supposed to be. Perhaps something has changed in the meantime.
Are you thinking of the right Aughild’s set? There are two, I believe. The sought after one has the following set bonuses:
(2) Set: Reduces damage from ranged attacks by 7.0%. Reduces damage from melee attacks by 7.0%.
(3) Set: Reduces damage from elites by 15.0%. Increases damage against elites by 15%.
Those are some kick-ass bonuses. You also get to mix-and-match 3 of 4 pieces to get the bonuses.
Yeah, that’s Aughild’s, and it is great. If you have the RoRG, you only need 2 pieces to get the full bonus.
