Divine Divinity and the game club got me itching for this again and I started up a new Crusader for season 2. I really like the option to just run adventure mode to level up and both the levels and the good loot are coming in bunches. I am level 63 now, but I have almost always had a legendary or two equipped while leveling up and the rest all yellows for most of that time.

Looking forward to gearing up again and pushing torment levels and seeing what these greater rifts are all about.

Is there much to playing Seasonal through the normal game if you play only single player and don’t care about competing? I’ve not touched D3 for a while now, but thought I’d give a new wizard a try in Season 2 to see what it’s about. So far, it’s just like starting a new game except I don’t have shared stash and money, just like my hardcore character. I’m not one for just grinding for loot/levels, either. I have to play the game in a linear fashion to enjoy it. Anything in there for me?

If you’re starting over, you might as well play seasonal-- you get an extra transmog for hitting 70 and have access to additional legendaries. Play a monk for that new gungdo gear in particular.

Hmm. Since the high levels are the most boring part of the game for me, it doesn’t sound like there’s much in there. A transmog for level 70 and some legendaries? Blah. Thanks for the tip.

Right, if you don’t care about competition, those are the only reasons to play seasonal.

If I had purchased D3 for the first time, of course I would play seasonal. No reason not to. Otherwise, no.

No normal person is going to be doing crap in the seasonal ranking stuff. The people topping these are playing 24/7 AND botting (yes, even after the semi recent ban waves, people still do this).

I agree that if i was starting a new character, it would be season, but i’ve never understood the desire to re-level the same class. Unlike in previous games, you can respec at will here so it isn’t like it is a new/unique experience this time. I’d much rather try out new builds and do a couple rifts. YMMV.

I think you get some small bonuses from doing it, but while I enjoy playing diablo 3 from time to time still, i am not in to it enough to power game to the 0.001%. My friend is doing the season thing every time, but she actively plays A TON and bots A TON. She is also paragon 500+.

Likewise, too attached to my original characters to reroll new ones. For a new item or two or whatever. If I were younger and there weren’t fantastic new games coming out every month then I could see getting into that stuff but honestly I don’t have the time anymore. But that’s fine, right? It’s not like they are only developing for seasonal players.

Since D3 is entirely about making number go up, I think seasons is a chance to start fresh back at a point where the numbers go up faster again. People also seem to use it as a time to swap their primary character for a bit, since the one they’ve been pounding on for the past 6 months is probably starting to feel stale.

I like to level backup characters in seasonal. So, I’ll have my Wizard, and then level up another in Seasonal. That way, if I lose one, I have a back up of sorts (though getting to 70 per se is trivial). Playing hardcore it’s also nice to have a backup you can experiment with without as much risk.

Other than that, the only reason to do seasonal is to goof around at low levels trying new stuff. And that’s only if your characters are all HC and you don’t want to risk them. For SC, eh, it’s really a non-thing.

Yeah, that’s reasonable. I only have a desire to play monk and demon hunter, sadly, so leveling new characters is just not going to happen. Fortunately they cater to that as well, giving us new items, monsters and areas and such. I’ve got my fingers crossed that we get a class I’m interested in next expansion.

Fingers crossed for a necromancer if there is going to be another expansion.

They already hit that archetype with the witch doctor, basically. Different theme of course, but the ability set would be identical. Same with the rogue and ranger, if you think about it-- lots of ability overlap with monk and demon hunter.

If it were me, I would do a fresh take on the druid from D2. Shifting would expose an entirely different ability mechanic from those already in the game. One major blocker is that shifted forms don’t show items, and the ARPGs are all about getting new stuff, so maybe rather than shapeshifting forms they act as exclusive ā€œstancesā€. Could work.

Personally, i felt the Witch Doctor was a poor excuse for a D2 Necromancer. Significantly less interesting in every way. However I agree that blizzard saw it this way and i think it was the justification for making a witch doctor class.

I am almost guilty feeling to admit it, but the druid class is my absolute favorite thing from my WoW days.

I’d be excited as hell if they made something comparable for Diablo.

I like the idea of the Druid (which I had, embarrassingly, forgotten about entirely).

Last night, or the night before, I was in a rift and hit a conduit pylon…right before running into one of those clusters of treasure goblins. Talk about a loot explosion, was pretty hysterical. It’s also fun to hit one right when the rift guardian pops…they just evaporate.

I tried a witch doctor for season 2 and was underwhelmed - too slow to kill, even at normal difficulty. I went with a Monk and it was much smoother (at 54 now). I don’t think I’ll take another through story mode though, that gets seriously old.

I agree, the witch doctor just doesn’t do it for me. I definitely miss the necromancer and my favorite from D2, the lightning trap assassin. I know the demon hunter has some traps but it’s just not the same feel for me.

My first HC 70, and (knock wood) still alive now, is a WD. I agree, it’s not the most thrilling play style. At this point I stand back, dump poison frogs on people, occasionally toss a piranhado, and let my gargantuan, dogs, and fetishes work over the bad guys. If necessary I spirit walk the hell away, and pop Big Bad Voodoo with Slam Dance to boost offense when cornered. But it’s fairly low key compared to diving in with melee, or even blasting with a wizard.

On the other hand, he’s pretty durable. I’ve been able to run low-level grifts and Torment 2 rifts with him in HC, which for me, at paragon 90 or so, is about as much as I have been able to do. I can barely do T1 with my wizard reliably.

You guys are missing the point that the WD is the best class at being played with a beer in your left hand.

Pet doctor is, definitely. You just run around and hold down the left mouse button dropping weak-ass toads on everything and spawning tons of little bugger pets.

That’s my main complaint with the pet doctor, those weak-ass toads. The spec needs a better way to spawn fetishes.
