Would be nice if added a feature that allowed you could either display the inventory as a spreadsheet or had some way to manage it offline (as a spreadsheet kinda listing) on the armory - with sorting by the various columns etc; every time season ends I get so much equipment sent to my mailbox and it is a chore to go through all the items comparing stats on all the rings, weapons, armor pieces and whatnot.

Alternatively a ‘quick sort’ feature that sorted items by type/stat automatically.

I’m reading “Stay Awhile and Listen” and it’s making me itch to play Diablo again. I no longer have my D2 discs and I can’t actually access my old battle.net account, as I don’t know (what I put for) the answers to stupid questions such as “Who was your childhood hero?”. The support staff asked for my ID, but apparently my name doesn’t match. When asked why my name doesn’t match my name, the support staff pointed out that my account looks like it was made with “fake details” – I.e. I imagine I’m a 99 year old called “asfdfdfafdsfdafdasf” on battle.net :)

Anyway, it looks like D3 is the answer. I’ve never played D3, because it cost like £100000 when it came out, but was a big fan of D2. D3 now costs £25, so I might buy it. I’m planning on trying the starter edition first (downloading now), as it’s basically the first few hours of D3 and I can upgrade whenever.

The question is, and this might become clear after I play the game so therefore might be a useless question: If I like D3 enough to buy it, should I also buy the expansion, Reaper of Souls? Or is the stuff it adds only useful to someone who’s played D3 enough to level up to 60 and beat everything 20 times? I can’t really tell from googling, as the people saying “OMG YES BUY IT” are people who’ve played D3 enough to level up to 60 and beat everything 20 times.

Yeah, the expansion is a lot of fun. You need it.

Pod, are you just a PC person? If not, you might want to consider getting Diablo III – and, yes, I’d say Reaper of Souls is pretty much obligatory even if you’re not TEH HARDCORE – for a console system. Blizzard did a fantastic job making it a smooth console experience.

thanks, but when do I need it? Will I see a benefit to owning it from the first second of play?

edit: Tom – I have a 360. I was considering it, especially as I can play local co-op with it and get my GF involved. But I don’t know anyone else with it on 360. All my friends have it on PC. :’(

Hmm It’s only £17 for the 360 version of D3 ultimate evil edition and I can prime it here for tomorrow. This is dangerously close to impulse buy territory…

I think this video has sold it to me:

SOLD.

Reaper of Souls is the 5th act, and all the interesting stuff was patched in, so you don’t need it until late in the game unless you want to play a Crusader. Crusaders are fun though.

Depending on what exactly you were hankering for from Diablo 2 you might arguably be better off with Path of Exile or Marvel Heroes, both of which are free to play with generous business models. Diablo 3, at least with Reaper of Souls included, is an awesome game but it is a hugely different one from Diablo 2.

I’ll second this. I have it on both platforms and the PC version is collecting dust. Also, Reaper of Souls is obligatory.

Any good deals out there for the Xbox One version? Digital or retail

I was going to say adventure mode isn’t late game, but I guess you do need to clear the storyline before you unlock adventure mode. But another advantage with getting Diablo III on a console – at least a current gen console – is that Reaper of Souls is included when you buy the game.

Which do you value more: your money or your time? Marvel Heroes and Path of Exile are fine if you must have an action RPG without paying for it. But neither of them is a substitute for what Blizzard has accomplished with Diablo III. Besides, you’re too late. Pod already posted an all-caps SOLD message and will presumably being playing tomorrow.

It’s amazing how far the game has come from its initial PC release. Almost a completely different game when you compare that first version to D3 + Reaper of Souls on the PS4.

Has anyone played on the PS3? Are the visuals a little muddy there?

I own Reaper of Souls on both PS3 and PC and while my PC is a beast I keep hearing the controls are superior on consoles.

Thanks,
Todd

I’ve played on the 360 and, yeah, visually, it’s pretty disappointing next to the PC version. But depending on what you’re looking for, the controls and same-screen co-op make up for it.

-Tom

Thanks for the advice! I don’t have a coop partner that would be interested in this, so not a big draw at the moment. Perhaps I will give it a go on the PC and see if the m+kb satisfies…which it probably will since I have not dipped in to the glory of controller-driven Diablo.

I played up to the limit yesterday on the PC free version. TBH the graphics on that were a bit crap – for some reason I had a really low res texture on the Barbarian lady I chose. The SE claimed it had fully downloaded, so I don’t know if that’s just the starter edition doesn’t include the “ULTRA” textures I had downloaded. I’m sure the 360 one will look just as good :)

The 360 one should arrive within hours and I can begin twin-stick shooting Demons :D

(I’m curious to see how Diablo feels with the console control method. The mouse+keyboard Diablo plays a bit like Cannon Fodder - if you want to run and shoot in different directions you need a massive agile mouse, and CF3 was basically ruined by the twin-stick controls imho)

One of the good things when playing this on the PC is that you can use ReShade or DarkD3 to make the graphics look much less muddy.

The main screen character picture is pretty low-res, even on PC. I believe the difference in graphics being discussed here is the in-game looks.

Amazon & Best Buy just dropped it to $20 on the 360/PS3 ($10 more on current gen):

Get your Reaper on!

Why is this supposedly so much deeper than Marvel Heroes? I stopped playing it shortly after the expansion a year or so ago. It was okay, but did not do that much for me. Has a lot changed?
