See this thread and the “starter builds” on the menu on the right:

You’ve been taking that “Diablo for MBAs” course haven’t you?

Hey! I used every one of those words correctly.

You did. Do you have any ideas for a Crusader? My character kills quite slowly and on Torment 1 it probably took me 10-15 minutes to kill the Skeleton King. I was never in danger of dying. My luck with weapon drops seems to be pretty lousy. My orange? drop (right above yellow) was a recipe for a Barbarian weapon. Not helpful.

I would use one of the starter crusader builds posted earlier in this page. Picking skills/gear that synergizes properly can dramatically increase your performance.

Any idea when the big patch is coming?

My guess would be 2-3 weeks, they just posted a bunch of changes on the PTR.

I plan to pick D3 back up with 2.3 also. The cube is awesome.

Join the Qt3 clan and ask members to let you tag along through T6 speedruns. You’ll get some decent gear quickly. (I am skedastic#1266.)

The new patch does look cool. Although I suspect with the increase in power the cube will afford the new T10 difficulty will become almost as dull to play as the current T6. They’re gonna need to make up to T20… And hurrah for the end of the damn trials.

Once at max level, D3 becomes an exercise in damage output vs damage mitigation vs clear speed. If you find killing stuff takes too long and you are never in danger of dying, review your gear and look to replace defensive gear with more offensive gear and/or lower the difficulty. Say you have some items that did not have crit, because you wanted the all-resists instead. Time for that item to go the next time a drop with crit comes along.

When farming for gear, clear speed is initially more important than the difficulty level you are playing at. Some drops only come in higher difficulties, sure, but you should at least get your gear to a reasonable state, affix wise first so when you bump up the difficulty your clear rate does not suffer too much. That 15 minutes spent killing the Skelli King could have been better spent on a lower difficulty doing act 1 bounties, mowing through a bunch of elite packs and hoovering up 5x as much gear for potential upgrades.

For damage output, any item that can roll with crit hit%, crit damage and sockets, should pretty much have those affixes. Anything else is probably sub-optimal. That’s rings, ammys, helms, weapons and offhands. Generally those items are for building your offensive capability. The others (chest, legs, shoulders) are for building you defence - that’s where you stack core stat, vit, resists. If you are running an elemental build, make sure the elemental % bonuses on gear matches the skills you are using (obviously). The vendor that can re-roll affixes can help with that (change lightning % to fire %), but keep in mind you can only ever alter one affix on an item, so if that weapon does not have core stat, crit%, crit dam and a socket already, it is not ideal from the outset.

Of course balance all that with the enjoyment factor. If lowering difficulty makes the game boring for you, don’t do it obviously, but realise it does come at the cost of some efficiency. :)

Is there a rundown of the patch somewhere now that it’s been on the PTR for a while? I know the gist from what Blizzard posted, but I have no idea what cube recipes people have found/what the cube does/if the new area and monsters are actually neat/etc etc etc.

I’m also looking forward to the patch though. Hitting the wall on PoE after the expansion now that I’ve blasted through merciless and am mapping. It’s a bit odd, but when I get in a PoE mood I play it and nothing else really intensively for a while, then burn out. With D3 (Due to the easy respeccing I assume) I tend to play for smaller amounts of time individually but over a longer period of time together before I take a break. Which seems about right since Steam says I’ve got 150 hours of PoE (Maybe add 50 for pre-Steam PoE) and I’ve got 300+ hours of D3 spread among all the classes.

I applaud them for turning the game around and continuing to add interesting things to it. They keep coming up with ways to get me to play again, and that’s no small feat.

At this point I’d be totally wiling to pony up for another expansion with a new class and even more stuff to play with.

I’d definitely pay for another expansion. As much as I can talk about some issues with some of the core design decisions, it is such a fun game moment to moment and it has continued to improve with patches and new content.

I actually think it is is a good foil to PoE, when you want to take a break from the added complexities that hurt your brain after a while (in a good way).

Kanai’s Cube details.

One of the first, most frequent powers you’ll utilize is the ability to extract a Legendary power from an item. This will add the power to your collection list, a comprehensive history detailing the vast amount of powers you’ve amassed. This also allows your hero to equip a Legendary power without having the item equipped, clearing up your stash of all those items you’ve been keeping “just in case.”

Characters may only equip powers from items that their class can normally equip. Powers are also extracted at their most potent value, making it a tough decision between equipping a well-rolled item or melting it down to utilize a maximized power. Powers can be extracted from any level Legendary. Finally, don’t worry if you get tired of a particular ability—you’ll be able to swap freely between the powers you’ve collected at any time by visiting Kanai’s Cube.

There are also several other quality of life functions Kanai’s Cube can perform, such as removing the level requirement from an item, converting gems and crafting materials from one type to another, and converting a set item to a different piece of that set.

That sounds awesome.

What a cool tribute, too.

Removing level requirement from an item? Is this for supertwinking an alt or something?

Yes it is.

I was goofing around on test with this, super fun and there are FROZEN YETI…I repeat FROZEN YETI… I’ll admit to having a big grin on my face when I first ran into those, I wish they would do more of inserting “classic” diablo mobs into the current gen, it’s a great nostalgia hit.

Awesome cube is awesome. For all the crap Blizzard gets from the internets, they continue to be amazing in terms of long term product support, and giving people way more than they paid for. I was just looking at my time played, adding up all my characters I’ve got over 1000 hours into D3…that’s just nuts.

Badass. As of now I have a high level character of pretty much every type but I would have absolutely loved that back in the day. Still will be useful to get the last 10-20 levels on a few characters, though!

Oh wow, that info on Kanai’s sounds amazing.

And for those of us that have gone all console, planning to release on Xb1 and PS4 at the same time.
