I absolutely melt through Torment III (and IV now w/ full Firebird set) with my Blizzard + Black Hole combo. I used to love Disintegrate but I hate having to stand there. Better to nuke them with Blizzard and be on my way to the next monster pack!

I forget which legendary it is, but there’s one that makes Ray of Frost pierce. I love cold-CC wizard builds (RoF, Blizzard, etc.)

I should note that my Blizzard pours down hot fire on my enemies, giving them really nasty sunburns :D

Yeah, the D is absurdly powerful. Penetrates everything, no problem.

(Sidenote: Detroiters refer to Detroit as ā€œthe Dā€ and proudly sport all kinds of merchandise/slogans/etc referring to how they love it. It’s weird.)

Thanks for all the wizard feedback, guys. Sounds like I just need to get further and find some legendaries that change things up. Having Ray of Frost pierce, for instance, would completely change my perspective. That’s really good to hear.

Grabbed the Kanai’s Cube as soon as the patch went live. Love how much more inventory space it freed up. Before the patch, I have only 3 max level characters - barbarian, crusader and monk - because the rest of the characters are mules. I can level up the other classes now with the free space and the remove level requirement power. Thumb’s up on this patch.

It’s also a popular double entendre for Detroit rappers.

But in order to extract legendaries do I need mats?
I’m not quite figuring out how to pu the Kanai into practice. I’ve just been running rifts to 70 to save my bosses and their guaranteed legendaries for 70.

You need 1 of each of five materials that are rewarded by horadric caches from clearing the bounties in each of the five acts. You also need a Death’s Breath, I think. So yeah, lotsa grinding, and you can’t start until you have characters high enough to get DBs.

Mats for legendries and the Cube are now gathered by completing bounty chapter sets (i.e. 5 bounties in an area).

Mats have been streamlined into two types: one set of mats that build non-legendries (yellows and below, level doesn’t matter), and the bounty mats.

And oh, yeah – the level auto selection for greater rifts sure was a surprise. It makes sense – the earlier ā€œtestā€ level to determine rift level was so exploitable – but I wasn’t expecting my underspecced Monk to be dumped right into RL 12

Yep, and if you had <60 mats stored in your banks they got turned into the new >60 mats. My packratting was rewarded, and now I have tons of blues!

Hahahahaha the Tal Rasha 2-set is hilarious you guys

So I put these pants on my little (30-ish) DH that do like many times her health as damage to enemies near her, and a cubed ability that generates a 1400% of weapon damage poison blast for every ten kills. She can wander around and stuff sort of drops dead around her. Had to give up regen, though, so it’s a bit tricky, and may not be something I keep going forward, but I’m sure cubing that ability when she changes pants.

Hoooooooly mother of god. Tal Rasha 2-set plus the Nagelring I just found (holy crap is that an amazing item!) basically means that everything around me melts. Just got a Vault so I have a Boon of the Hoarder going on as well. This is absurd, hahahahaha.

Ok, I can’t resist any longer. I haven’t played since Season 2, but I have to get this installed again on my new rig and check all this new stuff out!

Hah, came reaaaaal close to losing the Wizard on my first T3 rift. Terrible combo of rolling Cold Snap as the rift guardian (hate that guy!) and playing carelessly so I pulled not one or two but three freaking elite packs into the fight. Plus there were the stupid charge beasts roaming around. Dealing with teleporter, waller, and vortex on top of Cold Snap sucked butts.

Thankfully I have a pretty crazy amount of passive damage now (Mad Monarch cube ability, the ice armor polar vortex thing triggering Tal Rasha meteors, Nagelring suicide bombers) so the packs got thinned as I concentrated on getting the hell away from the impending doom.

I may have to spec back into Illusionist. That was scary scary scary.

Over the years I’ve run a couple that I really like.

  1. Arcane damage. Moonlight ward, arcane orbit, arcane torrent, you really melt stuff very fast and it’s great on mana.

  2. Firebird set with Blizzard (fire), and 2 hydras (fire) and fire blades (fire buff basic attack). Pretty much one of the easiest play styles in the game. Never out of mana, heck, mana rarely even budges from full with that build so no need to waste item budget on anything having to do with mana.

  3. My legendary geared wiz back in the old days: Every piece of gear I could get my hands on that had AOE damage. This was before sets were a thing, all LEG gear. The most fun character I’ve played in Diablo. This build did an absurd amount of point blank AOE damage. Moonlight ward, Andarials helm, paux faulds, thunderfury, etc etc, I had something like perma 3500% weapon damage just walking around without casting anything. Stuff just melted. Could literally run through T3 without stopping or casting lol. 100% fun.

I actually really like playing seasons, for the reason that I always end up coming up with some whacky build due to gear drops. There is a real charm to the game when you have nothing in your stash to twink with, and you have to follow what gear drops you get to design your build. That’s actually where the AOE wiz came from, just happened to get 3 or 4 drops with decent AOE on them and thought…hmmm…how far can I take this?

I am running my wiz as the Electrocute/Wave of Force/Achon build linked a page or so back. Had some decent legs drop - the belt that starts Archon with 15 charges and 1 Vyr piece. 50 paragon levels so far, 550k buffed DPS, 5.8 mill toughness (non Archon form). Nagelring, Pox Faulds and Fulminator Cubed. I can melt T1 and probably T2. Tried T4 for a bit last night and could clear reasonably well enough, but not particularly efficiently. Lots of fun. Archon form pwns.

Need to grab RoRG I think, make that Vyr peice earn its keep. Then look for some CR gear so I can keep it up.

Managed to snag materials for three Cube extractions tonight, so I did one each of a weapon, armor and jewelry. Nothing too fancy - melee attacks tossing out an axe (I don’t think WDs do ANYTHING that qualifies as a melee attack, but I’m not sure, and I only have a couple of other weapon specials - not burning Thunderfury, or not yet anyway, Soulsmasher’s cool but really reduces survivability, and then I’ve got a spear that makes Zombie Charger a lot cheaper, which is great if you also have its 80% damage boost to Zombie Charger, but not as a standalone power really), armor was that belt that makes opening chests (and chest equivalents) Haunt nearby enemies, and ring is the one that makes set effects activate one slot sooner (minimum two), which doesn’t help me right now but will if I ever find a third Zunimassa piece or maybe a couple more pieces of Jade Harvester. None of which really makes any impact on my current effectiveness. Oh well. Oh, and I found my first legendary potion, which was cool. Nothing terribly special, but it’s still something I did not have previously.

OK, this is my new favorite kit in Diablo 3. It constantly spams Acid Clouds and Piranhados on baddies while I’m attacking them at no mana cost. The ā€œchanceā€ that the mimics will spawn are basically every time I hit something as far as I can tell.

I was having a little trouble with Torment II, and now I’m tearing through it. Almost ready to jump to Torment III.
