Based on all this glowing chat, I bit the bullet this week and got the base game + expansion. Was having a ball until I hit Act II and the game started crashing on me every time I entered a certain map. Turns out to be a long known issue with AMD 6XXX series video cards and D3. Only solution is to go back to old old video drivers, which I don’t think is an option given my recent Win 10 upgrade. Poop. Looks like I need to shelve this game and wait to see if AMD ever fixes their drivers. Or wait until next year when my PC will be due for a hardware uplift.

My seasonal demon hunter now has a hilarious piece of legendary armor (Blackfeather) that fires homing missiles at the source of any ranged attack that she dodges or is hit by, and a bracer that rewards exp for picking up gold. I killed a Gilded Baron goblin that dropped a few hundred thousand gold and instantly went from 44 to 46. Beautiful.

Yeah, I like how all the changes have led to this. I can now farm T4 pretty happily and efficiently on my Archon wiz (now running Vyr/Tal Rasha/Blakthorne), but I am pretty sure my mate with FB still melts stuff quicker in RR and GR.

Played with some paragon 350+ friends of a friend last night and got towed through some 4 player T7 RR and 30-40 GR. Man that was fun! One of them dropped me a DH set piece so I started an alt early this arvo. Same guy happened to be on and offered to level me. I actually like leveling normally, but I accepted. 30 minutes, 3 RR and a GR later, my DH was level 70. Still had empty slots. I gained 42 levels on just the first RR! No idea what half the DH skills are! If anyone wants to level an alt, happy to pull them through with my Wiz on T3 or so.

So against everyone’s advice I started the campaign. Rolled up a crusade and started on hard. I’m finding the crusader a little dull. Around level 18 and just beat the skeleton king. I don’t believe he dropped the crown, if that helps anyone. I also started a witch doctor and played 2 bounties and that was a lot more fun. I do want to complete the campaign, at least once (although I did it several times pre-expansion, I guess because its there and I’ve never seen act V. I may try to get another character up to level 20 and see if I can jump in just before the skeleton king (I don’t know if that’s possible. Edit: Looks like it’s not) because I’m not really enjoying the crusader. They seem to be co-op oriented so not that much fun to play solo.

I haven’t tried nephalem rifts yet, because I don’t know what they are.

Anyway, so much for my plans to make decent progress in Witcher 3 while my wife it out of town. This game is so much more instantly gratifying.

The rifts are entered from the black obelisk in town by a dude named Orek (should have a blue * over his head if you haven’t talked to him before). Don’t need to talk to him, just use the obelisk. Rifts are a sort of randomized dungeon taken from pieces of different game locations and populated with random critters, keyed to your difficulty and character level (for regular rifts). You progress through one or more areas killing mobs. Each mob you kill increments a meter, with bosses and champs and such dropping skull orbs that advance the meter further. When it hits the end, the big purple baddy Rift Guardian spawns. Kill him, collect loot, go back to town and talk to Orek to close the rift and get an experience and gold reward. Generally a good chance of getting better loot in the rifts, and they’re at least interesting because of the mix and match of locations and mobs.

I too find Crusaders dull. I have two of them at 70 but haven’t advanced them much to the place where they become really cool I guess. If they ever do. My problem is time to kill; mine always take forever to kill anything, while being nearly unkillable themselves.

Lost my first Season 4 character yesterday, a 50 Wizard. Was doing the last bounty in Act III, which happened to be Maghda, on Master. Generally shouldn’t be an issue, but one of my clan mates jumped into the game right before the fight with a similar Wizard. I wasn’t paying full attention, and the loss of my healing bot Templar, and the spike in difficulty, plus my build (Glass Cannon, all offense sort of thing) through me off and poof, dead.

Ah well I have two 70 Wizards anyhow so it’s not like there’s a shortage.

Glass Cannon in hardcore? You silly person.

I really wouldn’t agree that the crusader is co-op oriented. Yeah, he has a couple things that teammates can benefit from (Laws), but I use those heavily on my crusader that has only ever played solo.

By all means, though, if a class isn’t fun you should absolutely past another. I don’t care much for the Witch Doctor (I love it thematically but I just don’t have as much fun with him) but it seems like it’s Tom’s favorite by a wide margin.

There’s two other significant aspects of rifts: they have a much higher elite and champion spawn rate (to the point where I quite regularly have been fighting two to three such groups at once), and they have a chance to spawn a sort of special shrine called a pylon that supercharges your character in some ridiculous way - making all your skills free with no cooldown, making you move at the maximum possible move speed, causing you to throw off arcs of enormously damaging lightning, etc. They’re faster levelling and potentially better loot than bounties, but bounties give you special crafting materials and plans, so it’s worth switching off depending on your immediate goals.

I definitely disagree with the coop comment as well. Sure monk and crusader seem to have more to offer a group, but they are fully capable solo warriors as well. I have a blast solo with my crusader. I’m also that rare person who has never really used the laws though.

I had 4 legendaries drop this morning.

Kind of an ordinary one. Nothing to special about it. The other 3 though

The Relic of Akarat. It let’s the Templar use all 8 of his skills.

Ring of Royal Grandeur. Reduces the set bonus requirements by 1(min of 2 pcs).

Corrupted Ashbringer. It raises skeletons until you have 5 and then they explode doing weapon damage and Corrupted Ashbringer transform into Ashbringer doing 5311% holy dmg extra. (This is going to my Crusader when I can)

Been a good morning.

One question. Is there a way to upgrade a legendary so it’s level 70? The ring is level 69.

Heh, hence my lack of concern with RIPing. I have a morgue filled with dead hardcore Wizards.

Not as far as I know, but you can crack the ring open and extract the shiny power goo inside to equip as a passive. That’s what I did with my Royal Grandeur.

Thank you, I didn’t know that.

So, in a similar theme to my Disintegrate/Wizard questions, here’s another one: In singleplayer, does anyone use anything but the Templar? I always have used him, but this time for my Season character I decided to go with the Enchantress. I’m not seeing the utility compared to the Templar, so eventually I switched back over at L67. Resource generation, heals, etc… the other two just don’t seem to compare.

Does anyone here prefer the Enchantress or Scoundrel?

I have tried them all, but always come back to the Templar. If I was playing softcore, I might go with the Scoundrel because his dialog is a lot better than either of the others, but for hardcore the Templar’s heal-bot function is indispensable IMO. I rarely, if ever, see anyone in hardcore use anything but the Templar. I don’t play softcore so I don’t know about that. But the Templar, despite being boring as hell and rather dense, just offers too much goodness as a companion.

I’d love to play with the Scoundrel as he’s voiced by the amazing Troy Baker but there’s just no point to use anything but the Templar.

Besides, you get to loot a crappy white item and thirty-six gold and have the Templar exclaim, “Wealth unimaginable!” Over and over.

My WD runs with the Enchantress, but then, my WD has five zombie dogs providing full life on hit with every attack.

I use the Templar for my Wizard. With the ability to use all 8 of his skills, real nice Templar relic, he became a really good tank.

With my Monk I use the Enchantress. Love the AoE chickening. Can just mow through scores of mobs and really bad rares and elites.

You people don’t mute voices? My god, I can’t play with them on. “If only they could see me now,” indeed.
