The amulets really are not that. They are very useful as they give you a fifth passive which often can be more powerful than any of the other legendary amulets abilities. If you look at the GR leaderboards they are common on players at the highest levels.

Hah, I was missing something!

(Counterpoint: I transmuted spare TR pants into a TR amulet, which ain’t going nowheres for a while I think.)

Did you get it in a rift? Because the goblin-and-Act I-induced version is full of cuddle bears, flowers, and ponies.

Amusingly at first I thought you were referring to a different level…

By putting the Bovine Bardiche into Kanai’s Cube you unlock a level called Not The Cow Level which will look awful familiar to Diablo II fans.

Oh, there’s a new one? Sweet! I haven’t been since well before 2.0.

I’m aware of the cuddle bears etc. They’re logically the same kind of small/med/large enemies as the rest of the game, is what I meant.

On the Ubers and Infernal machines - prior to 2.3 at T6, the parts were uncommon at best. It was a pain farming them - first you had to find the keywarden and then get a drop. It wasn’t unusual for me to whiff a half dozen times in a row. Because of that, I only ever made 3 amulets. They all sucked, but now with the horadric cube a free passive is very tempting. As for the fights themselves, I found them far easier solo than in a duo, and that probably because of the Unity ring when soloing. I found one of the fights - I think the one with Diablo - a bit difficult and ended up dying a couple times, which of course you’ll want to avoid on HC.

I’ve done the happy sparkle land. Is that the same as the non-cow level? If so, meh.

No, not at all. It’s well worth doing at least once.

Progression in D3 is so messed up. No luck with very specific drops, even though you’re wearing full legendary gear? Sorry bro, torment 1-2 for you. Find focus & restrain? Here, extra +3 torment levels free of charge.

I’m playing a monk and I basically can’t start using my 6 piece Uliana until I find Flow of Eternity at least, it’s ridiculous.

Do other classes have smoother progression? For their main sets, anyway…

So I did the three Infernal Machines I had (the Gluttony one, the Evil one, and the Chaos one). Anticlimactic to be sure. Bosses died easily at T3, but at least each dropped one of the organ thingies. I even got two off of one of them.

Now if I can just get Chittara or whatever to drop the Gibbering Gem so I can get that other crap for the Herding staff out of my stash…

The new cube recipes help with that a lot. I only found 2pc TR, but fabricated 2 and gambled the 5th to go with my RORG passive. Then I managed to gamble the 7th piece of TR (the boots that double Meteor damage, more against single targets).

That’s the thing, I need to find that item first before I can feed it to the cube. I already have a full armor set but it’s useless with default cooldown of 14 seconds on 7 sided strike.

Oh sure, idk about whatever your monk problems are.

So, wow, this morning I was wasting some time before work. Ran a quick rift and got an Ancient SuWong Diviner that rolled with 98% bonus acid cloud and a socket. Took my DPS from 710k to a little over 1mil with that 1 item upgrade. Haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. Lost some toughness from the switch out though, so I’m assuming I’m still stuck with my ā€œthings die fast, but so do Iā€ problem. I’m trying to figure out if I should just reforge and re-socket my armor for toughness to try for T6, or just keep running T5’s and hope for some survivability gear drops.

Argh, been grinding for one of these for weeks.

The gizzard gem (the one that gives high regen and shield) is probably the best defensive gem you can use. As a witch doctor that should help some with survivability issues. There are also some passives that can help and a zombie dog rune (absorb damage or use life-on-hit) that should get you into T6. For solo play, Unity x2 (one for you, one for a follower) will do that instantly. As for socketing armor, go with Topaz. INT adds to resist (so you get DPS and resistance.)

Oh and grats on the Ancient :)

So I’ve decided to make the jump over to hardcore. I think I’m going to try out all of the different characters for a little bit, twinking each other up, in adventure mode for a little while before I decide on one to run through the campaign once on easy mode to unlock master difficulty, and then sort of see how it goes. Any hints or tips for hardcore (other than don’t die)?

Everyone has their own take on it, but I can offer what I have gleaned from my own experiences; take it for what you will.

Single biggest tip: Don’t be afraid to die, and don’t let it bother you when you do. You will die, you will lose gear you like, so get used to it. It’s part of the thrill.

Defense is definitely important, but often, offense is the best defense. When I first started hardcore I stacked vitality and regen, which you’d see on your paper doll now as toughness and recovery I guess. This works up to a point, but in some cases becomes counterproductive, particularly at high tiers. If you stack defense at the expense of offense, you end up in combat longer, with correspondingly more chances for things to go pear-shaped. So, one piece of advice I’d give is maximize damage output. Naturally, don’t actively skimp on protection and health but those things tend to come pretty easily via gear (more so with paragon levels of course). The faster you kill stuff the less chance it has to kill you. This is the key to moving beyond Master and T1 I’ve found.

Use gems like you’re addicted to bling. Every socket should have the highest possible gem you can cram into it.

Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. Don’t get attached to gear, only to results. As you level, often a yellow will be better than a legendary. Your earliest set pieces, which you can get in your twenties, won’t last too long. If you’re in a bounty or a regular rift and you find something better than what you have, get safe and swap it in. Don’t wait. If you need to go back to Mystic it or get a gem, do it.

Clear your path. Don’t leave mobs behind you and rush to the bounty or the whatever. This is especially true when confronted with treasure goblins. Until you are really well geared and/or on such a difficulty level you are nearly godlike, chasing after those buggers is often a death sentence–for you.

Don’t underestimate the bad guys. Blue packs have killed more of my guys than bosses.

Get some immunities if you can, via gear or later via Kanai’s Cube and melting legendaries. Immunity to arcane or poison is really sweet.

Learn to move. Tunnel vision can make you stand in the fire/goo/ice for waaaay too long. Make sure your movement speed gets buffed somehow.

Always slot an escape skill of some sort when you can. And always slot the most defensive passive you can until you get comfortable at least. When you get a ā€œget out of death freeā€ skill like Unstable Anomaly, slot it.

Be prudent. Until you are geared and in the groove as it were, it’s better to take more time than to hurry and die. At the same time, don’t dally. ā€œJust one more chestā€ is a great way to croak after you’ve finished a rift.

Start relatively easy. I’d recommend starting on Hard, but Normal is perfectly fine if you’re starting completely from scratch with a seasonal character for instance. If you really want to ease your way in, do the story mode. After you off the Skeleton King, you can then switch to adventure mode. Me, I just jump into rifts at level 1, nearly naked. It’s a hoot.

Always take the Templar. In Adventure mode you get him from the get-go, so grab him. He’s your heal bot. Turn voices off if you have to, but always use the Templar.

In terms of survival, different folks have different views, but I’d put them in this order in terms of toughness (YMMV): Crusader, Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Monk, Wizard, Demon Hunter. That’s not how I’d rank 'em for fun, but it seems to be true for survivability. The Monk is probably better than the WD until the WD gets going though, or if the WD doesn’t run pets.

Get your crafters to max ASAP if you haven’t already. Don’t be afraid to use the Mystic on everything to get stuff you need.

Give your follower (the Templar, it should be!) rings and weapons that have cool, useful affixes. The Nagelring, which summons exploding imps, is great for Kormac to tote around. Ditto with legendary weapons with useful effects, like blowing up enemies or shooting out lightning. They’ll work for your follower as well as for you.

Thanks for the advice, Mr Grumpy. I don’t appear to have a gizzard gem yet. Sounds like I’ll be making some GR runs this weekend for the drop and to level the gem up :)

Hardcore? Take the passive that revives you after a death (if your class has one). Be proactive about running away before your situation starts to get too hairy.

6 piece Uli’s isn’t useless, at least throw a big diamond in your hat and put points in CDR. I can do t6 with it; it’s slow, but group a couple packs up and they all explode (obv elites+ is where it slows down) You can definitely get up high enough on greaters to do some actual gem upgrading.

I wouldn’t wish a cooldown that long on my worst enemy. I got pretty much all the gear together now and the cd with all the cdr is still ~3 seconds, enough to make the build feel a bit clunky. 3s of waiting in an arpg is a long time.

Fwiw, I used the spirit generator build to get where I am now (able to clear t10 rather easily), it’s much easier to gear than EP build.
