I’ve found that the primary / resource generating skills are pretty underwhelming for all classes I’ve played (Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Demon Hunter). But since they generate resources I just expect them to be weak and simply use them for tiny/weak mobs or whenever I do need to generate resources.

On the WD I love the one that rains toads on people. I use that one all the time. With any pluses to poison, and the poison toad rune selected, it does a decent job. And it’s neat.

I’m using Haunt on left click with a rune and some passives that make it generate a bunch of mana. Usually I’m spamming Acid Cloud, but I’m trying to practice threading in Haunts with it to keep my mana reserves from bottoming out. At lower levels I switched between dart and frogs depending on how much of a wall my teammate was. I like being right behind a really survivable person with frogs, but sometimes some slow and dart felt safer.

Don’t forget you can turn on Elective mode (I think it’s called that) which lets you put any skill in any slot. So you could assign a random skill to the left mouse cick, not just the resource-free skills.

But if you’re asking which of the resource-free skills do people use, I use Toads/Rain of Toads for my left click. Probably going to change to the Toads with the Pierce rune when I hit 70 though.

I use Corpse Spiders with the mana-gen rune. Each attack spawns 4 spiders that generate 3 mana each time they hit. They aren’t a great source of damage, but they help keep the mana flowing.

Also, many builds don’t use a resource builder at all (and yes, turn on elective mode by all means; it gives you much needed flexibility). Once you get geared enough, you don’t have resource issues much.

There are some poison dart builds that are pretty powerful. Coupled with Carnevil and the Primary boost gem… It looks like the high rift level players are all Helltooth with corpse spiders for the slow.

Found this site that lists the most common skills for the WD (and other classes). I’m not sure how up to date it is but the top skill is Spirit Walk which I"ve never used so maybe I should give that one a chance.

For my build, Spirit Walk feels essential for survivability and maintaining combos in rifts. You can use it after being frozen to break out of the frozen state and run away, or ignore elite packs walls and even their jailing. Plus, if you have a wall of enemies in front of you and want to add some enemies to the pile to keep your combo going, you can just spirit walk through them to the next group of badguys.

I never thought about the walking out of frozen state. I generally never have health issues the exeption being getting frozen and then those stupid purple lasers lighting me up.

Any recommendations for a Demon Hunter build? I’ve been tied to rapid fire my entire time all the way up to 60 since it’s so freaking powerful, and can’t imagine anything else that would replace it well. But it sucks up a lot of Hatred so I need Hatred generators quite a bit.

I may have to stop playing hardcore. My initial plan was to have one of each class and level them up at around the same rate in order to think each other. But I’m now realizing that it will take me forever to get any of them to 70, not to mention having to start over when one of them dies. Which is often because its tough to get a feel for whento move up in difficulty when you play like that. The biggest thing that bugs me about HC is that it forces you to play more slowly and without taking risks, which can be less fun. So I may play softcore for a while until I get more used to the progressions.

Bountiful Bounties Weekend incoming. In short, you’ll get double bounties in Adventure Mode during the whole weekend. Time to get mats for Kanai’s Cube!

Replying to my own post, I was shocked to see this:

Rapid fire is all the way toward the bottom. Yet other than Sentry, I can’t imagine any other skill that does anywhere close to the same amount of DPS?? I’m horribly confused now.

The class sets are build defining and most of those stats are going to be from level 70 characters. There are sets or legendaries for all of the spenders higher than Rapid Fire save Strafe, and it has amazing synergy with the Natalya’s set.

I’ve been leveling up my HC barbarian (almost 60 now I think) but need to stop playing too late at night! I had a few moments where I almost dozed off & realized I was standing in a mix of bad guys without fighting back. Luckily just playing on Hard level or I would have been pretty dead immediately.

I just got back into D3 and figured I would definitely benefit from going softcore. I have been rewarded because my guy has died like 4 times (3 times in one stupid freakin rift that I had set too high). Now that I’ve almost got a 70, though, I may dip my toes into hardcore.

Crap, there goes my weekend…

It’s so funny to read that, because I currently have Spike Trap (because of a legendary that spreads the trap to other nearby enemies when it explodes) and Rapid Fire in my build and they work pretty well. That said, I have yet to try other skills in any real capacity, so that might change.

I leveled a seasonal hardcore DH (because hey, why not) and he’s now cruising through T2 with a couple of pieces of the better crafted sets and a silly spin2win build (Strafe, Hungering for the occasional dry hatred pool, Vault, Sentry, Smokescreen, Bat). Fire Walkers are a shockingly powerful spin2win power; makes me want to bring up a Barbarian.
