What the heck? Have they stealth nerfed Infernal Machine drops?

2 x Keywarden runs @ T8 (8 Keywardens killed). Only 1 damn machine.

Used to pretty much get a machine every kill at T8.

Ick, sounds like a bad RNG run, that sucks. T8 apparently has ~60% drop rate for machines, according to this chart. I can’t speak to its accuracy, but it’s been posted in this thread a few times.

RNG gonna RNG. I’ve done 10 consecutive runs for a specific key at t8 and got 0 drops. Few games later I got 3 out of 3 runs.

If that chart is accurate, it seems I should be farming keys, uh, machines, at T6 (I can blow through T6 and while T7 is fine, it definitely takes a little longer).

I absolutely hate the keywarden who is in Act 3 (the castle battlements, whichever one that is). He always seems to be right at the end of the level, which is boringly linear. Plus whatever his main attack is (raining corpses, something like that), it destroys me.

That one’s the best imo, easiest to find. Certainly beats combing the desert oasis or fields of misery.

He seems to be my nemesis.

Ughh!

I’m sort of at a loss for what I should be doing (aside from ā€˜having fun!’).

I’ve got a level 70 seasonal WD who I am playing. Currently I’m able to take on Torment VIII-ish and did GR 40 with about 1:30 left, so that’s roughly my ceiling. Since then I’ve been fiddling around with builds, and I’ve recently been using an angry chicken build to farm Death’s Breaths, since it seems I always need more DBs.

As far a goal, I suppose I’d like to get to Torment X and higher GRs, but I guess I’m a little fuzzy on how to get there aside from ā€˜upgrade your gear.’ What strategy should I be using here? I’ve gambled for a Mask of Jeram and Tasker and Theo gloves, which is what everyone says you should get at first, but I don’t know what to use my blood shards on after that. It seems like the main things I need still are ancient armor and a Restraint ring. Is it worth spending shards for a ring or is that too much of a crapshoot? Does it make more sense to upgrade rares to try for a Restraint? Should I be rerolling my existing gear in the cube or gambling for new pieces and just hope they’re ancient?

I know it can boil down to ā€˜do whatever you find fun’ but I am trying to get just a teeny bit of organization to go along with that!

Pets don’t do much damage. Mimics (from the Grin Reaper helm) do a lot.

I’ve hit a bit of a wall where pushing past T7 (hardcore) involves finding very specific individual items, and my god is there anything less fun in Diablo than hunting for a particular legendary?

Well, that and my networking situation is no longer such that I can reasonably play hardcore for the moment, which is lame.

I can vouch for the Grin Reaper. It is a damage multiplier

Spend your bloodshards on the things that are cheap, aka 25 blood shards each, that’s armor. Try to fill out set pieces with bloodshards. Everything else is best gotten via cubing.

  1. Run bounties to get a royal ring of grandeur if you don’t have one yet.

  2. Check the leaderboards for builds and see what people are using and see if any of those builds appeal to you. Aim your farming/blood shard use at those targets.

What setup/spec are you using right now?

Just want to thank John Reynolds and Bateau for posting their Uliana’s Monk characters. Using them as guides, I’ve gone farther this season than ever before…I can solo level 40 GRs easily and could probably go higher. I did modify a few things to suit my playstyle, but it forces me to be more offensive which I’ve never really tried before. I’m still amazed by the results. Anyway, thank you for your advice and examples!

Ultrazen’s advice is good, and the other major thing I would highly recommend is running public games, preferably T8s. I was very much in the same boat as Charlatan and AdamB and even though I wasn’t really ready for T8s it really made all the difference. T8 is the level where endgame builds can run with little danger (at least in hardcore) extremely quickly. Max reward for least danger, and you will see a ton of legendaries in a short period of time.

I know some shy away from public games, but I’ve really seen no issues at all. Generally people just focus on running rifts as fast as possible, so it’s really easy to see as many as 10 rifts in an hour, which can mean something like 40 legendaries. Plus the XP bonus means you’ll be leveling a lot faster.

I also heavily used Kanai’s cube to get my weapons. It isn’t particularly cost effective to spend blood shards on weapons, and even with something like bows, there’s only 13 legendary, whereas gambling on two-handers means you’ll see crossbows and bows. Spears, for something like a Skrimshaw for WDs to run the zombie bear build, are ridiculously easy to cube for as there are only 2 unique. 10 attempts and I had an ancient. So double check the number of legendaries in the particular category as you might find the cube is more efficient. I’ve never tried it for rings though. Getting Focus and Restraint should be a high priority for most builds, and I spent a ton of blood shards trying for them. I did get one, but all others were from rift runs.

I’ve used these methods to build up my DH, and thanks to sharaleo’s suggestions, I last night ran a GR 50 in just over 13 minutes. It would have been faster, but I had to wait for my death passive to regen due to an error in judgement on one of my vaults. In reality though I’m constantly on the brink of death, and while I think I could run a 51, maybe 52, the margin for error is so slight that I’m not sure right now I’d risk it. My bow is probably the biggest thing holding me back at this point as I can’t for the life of me find an ancient Yang’s.

I actually have the pieces to run a higher DPS Marauder build, but my toughness drops through the floor and it’s a much more complicated type of build. Anyone looking for a high skill build, that is definitely one. At first it seems ridiculously underpowered, but once you see the power of 5 sentries all launching cluster arrows to match yours, you realize how powerful it can be. But coordinating those sentries for optimal placement while maintaining your hatred is pretty damn difficult. It was really fun though when it worked.

Going to try my first TX rift tonight. Have been running T9 without much difficulty the last couple of nights. Last night, I finally had a Restraint drop to complete my Focus/Restraint set. I didn’t realize both 50% bonuses could be active at the same time.

The mobile killing power of the WD is just addictive. I’m having a hard time playing anything else right now.

I’m quickly hitting the wall on where I can take the WD. Feeling like I’ve gotten my gear exactly where I want it (given my play style) piece wise, now it’s about getting slightly better versions of that gear.

Having hit the wall at Grift 35 with my sorceress, I’ve been leveling up a Barb to L70 and beyond. I’m now realizing that Barbs are just fucking boring.

I came really late to Barbs, i.e. I didn’t even have one at max level until a few months ago. Now, it’s hard for me to play anything else, as it’s just on a different tier. That character can run T8 like it’s normal, and I haven’t even gotten any of the new gear on it really.

After spamming buttons, and worrying about what buffs are up or not, what I need to cast, and trying to avoid instant death by pretty much anything (playing my wiz), playing a barb was really really relaxing.

For me, I think Blizzard has a real hard on for the warrior class in general. They are OP in Hearthstone, WoW, D3, and HotS. It’s like some unwritten Blizzard rule, that warriors must be king of the hill. Note to self, play whatever the ā€œtankā€ class is in Overwatch.

So I found a Ring of Royal Grandeur. Should I be wearing that, or cubing it for the power?

Also my primary character is a Barb that can ru T3 comfortably. What is some general advice on what skills and gear I should be running?

If it’s better than your existing rings, wear it. If not, cube it!

You will eventually need rings and an amulet with sockets (if you’re not there yet), so keep that in the back of your head when looking at jewelry.

Rrog has so-so default stats so it’s probably best to cube it. And if you run bounties every once in a while you’re bound to find at least a couple more.
