Yep, Diablo is whole-heartedly embracing power inflation. And I think that’s the right move, to keep it fresh. Otherwise you’re stuck investing tremendous amounts of time for incremental progression, which works in a diku MMO, but not in an item-hunting ARPG.

Didn’t DB drops used to double at T8?

I gotta upgrade me some amulets.

I believe there’s a chance for two to drop starting at T8. That chance increases in T9 and T10.

That’s sounds about right.

I’m enjoying the witch doctor mojo and ceremonial knife combo that lets you spam rain of corpses. Looks pretty silly.

I’m at 4/6 Roland’s and of course have a RoRG. 5/6 is hopefully coming right around on time, as the Invoker/Thorns build is starting to lose some of its charm.

Also sitting on my final Haedrig’s Gift, since I didn’t need it to take me to 7/6 Invoker. I’ll probably sit on it until the season ends and I can give it to whatever non-seasonal dude I feel like.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do I collect the reward for completing a chapter?

Shit has gotten real.

Tried Roland’s when I found 5/6, found it incredibly lacking compared to Invoker. Think I’m up to Grift 43 or something in seasonal, and that’s just because I’ve outpaced my legendary gem levels. Had terrible luck there; didn’t get the Thorns gem until just now.

Not a ton left to do to improve the character massively, to be honest. The biggest thing is leveling my gems - getting the secondary on them will help quite a bit. Traveller’s Pledge, I suppose. I’ve got the ring already…I’ll try it if the amulet ever shows up. Honestly the Halcyon’s Ascent special is okay, and it’s a ridiculously good roll.

Had a fun Monk build now, just need better MH weapons and everything else ancient so I can do higher tiers of torment. (T4/T5 at the moment on Seasonal Heroic)
Basically, everything I hit explodes, or it gets damaged and then I use a kick and everything explode.

  • Two set bonus from Uliana gives me exploding palm on every third hit. (This is spread to almost every mob with the Sweeping Wind Aura (it seems) as well (or maybe only) from One Hundred Fists (main attack/spirit Builder)

  • Six set bonus from Sunwoko gives me 50% dmg reduction with sweeping wind active (so I stay alive),
decoy spawning every second that explodes for 500% damage (and taunts)
and Lashing Tail kick doing 1500% bonus damage by taking 1 stack off Sweeping wind (two-shot most T4 bosses)

  • Kyoshirus Soul Belt gives me 2 stacks of sweeping wind every second while outside of combat (i.e. dont have to rebuff it)

  • Gungdo Gear Bracers give me exploding palm whenever exploding palm explodes. (So I can share the fun)

  • Oculus ring gives me a 85% damage bonus ‘area’ sometimes on places I hit. (I might replace this)
Wyrdward ring gives me 28% change to stun anything I hit with lightning damage. (If its stunned, it cant hit me or run away)

Weapon 1: Lightning damage can turn target into a lightning rod for 520% damage per second for 6 seconds
Weapon 2: Increase Sweeping Wind Stacks to 6

Combined with the Cube Mods:
Mainhand - Double attack speed proc
Armor - 50% faster and 300% higher damage Lashing Tail Kick
Jewlery - RIng of Royal Grander (-1 on set item requirement)

So I can have some fun in Torment 4-5 (playing Seasonal Heroic so have to be careful)

Even so:
I still cant complete the Sunwoko Set-Item dungeon within the time limit 4m30seconds. it involves killing around 380 mobs including some elites, as well as doing 5 x times with my decoy hitting 20 targets within 6 seconds.

I guess I need to try with something else than lashing tail kick… maybe Tempest Rush with the speed buff…

Other than that, all I can think off is to get my gems to 25 and hope that helps.

My Heroic Monk for Season 5

My Toughness is around 45m with sweeping wind up.

Maybe I need to put more of my stuff on ‘offense’, but I fear that will mean me dying :-)

FWIW I wasn’t anywhere near ready for the Invoker dungeon when I was at a T5 level. Definitely needed better gear.

Yeah, I was the same. Mastered that dungeon when I was probably cake-walking T7 or so.

I think you are going to hit a survivability wall as you approach GR50. Possibly damage output as well.

You need that Traveller’s ammy as the Endless Walk set bonus provides damage mitigation as well as attack bonus, which suits the run, then stand and deliver style of the thorns set. You also need the Justice Lantern ring for huge damage mitigation.

Sheet damage does not matter for Invoker - most of your damage comes from thorns, which does not crit based on gear CHC and CHD. To that end, CHC and CHD on gear is unnecessary (both your rings, but I can’t see if you re-rolled sockets on them…). You want to stack CDR instead to more regularly hit your skills, which should be set up for bonus thorns damage. To that end Fury is useless on the Punish skill (as is Roar and Retaliate - making cubed Angel Hair band sub-optimal) and you should be running Consecration/Bed of Nails over Provoke/Too Scared to Run (you should only ever be chasing champs).

Run between champ packs with Steed, hit Akarat’s Champion, Iron Skin, Consecration and watch shit melt. Time that properly with Conv of Elements Physical cycle and you will do stupid, stupid damage.

You are also missing the Crusader Shield Akarat’s Awakening, which reduces cooldown of all skills on block. Under-performs at low GR’s where you kill stuff too quickly for it to proc enough, but it will come into it’s own from GR55 or so.

Running Nem’s with RoRG cubed is fine, but with a Justice Lantern and Compass Rose ring, you will be potentially giving up the Conv of Elements bonus. Good for farming, but may not be good for higher GR’s as your damage output begins to struggle. If you hit that wall, put Conv in cube and put on your Invoker bracers.

As mentioned, Angel Hair Band is going to under-perform in your cubed armour slot as 3 of the Punish runes add direct attack damage which is always going to be crap. The preference is Heart of Iron, which will significantly add effective damage output through boosting thorns.

Hack in the weapon cube is ok, but I am pretty sure it adds thorns damage to your actual attacks only and the bonus remains static, ie unbuffed by skill use. Consider replacing with something like Blood Brother for additional mitigation, depending on where your weaknesses crop up.

Other than that, life on hit is great paired with a quick weapon and high attack speeds. Your sword actually looks pretty good. You could re-roll damage for CDR instead. Or the socket and hit it with a Ramaladni.

Oh, and more Ancient pieces! We could all do with more of those… :)

I am currently running Invoker adhering to most of the above, working my way up the GR levels. GR55 so far in about 7 minutes. Health bar barely moves unless I get a particularly hard hitting champ pack. Think I hit a pot once in that 55, which was the first time in any GR. Should get to GR60/65 without much drama as is.

I really like the thorns set. I played a thorns crusader briefly in season 4 but it was underwhelming and under powered. Blizz stated they were hesitant to buff the Invoker set to competitive levels if it meant gameplay would become static. Thankfully they have managed to avoid that as I find it quite fun and still involving to play.

Appreciate the post, sharaleo. Much of it was already on the schedule, yeah.

Is my profile for some reason not showing my ancient Justice Lantern? Because ancient Justice Lantern, of course. What an incredible ring.

Akarat’s Awakening sounds awesome. Not that I’m mad about a decently rolled Ancient Stormshield, but that does sound like rather a nice proc.

Been looking to move away from AHB as my cubed armor for a while, but haven’t found anything terribly worthwhile to replace it with. Same with Hack - I rolled without it just to test (Butcher’s Sickle is godawful, in case you’re wondering) and didn’t miss the additional damage. It was awesome for pre-6pc though.

Surprised at how much I like Nemesis Bracers for rifting. A bonus champ/elite pack for every pylon is actually quite nice. And of course I’m guaranteed to have cooldowns up (though honestly they usually are), so they generally melt pretty quickly.

Provoke was mostly to test it with the legendary shield that doubles Thorns against Provoked enemies. (It sucks.) Been running Shield Bash on rclick, actually, since I’ve been so underwhelmed by Consecrate/Bed of Nails. Are you finding the survivability on it worthwhile at higher levels?

I’m sure it isn’t optimal (as evidenced by my inability to clear a Torment X rift in 5 minutes for the season journey) but I’m really enjoying a Norvald’s variant of the Invoker build – in part because the Akarat shield hasn’t dropped/cubed/gambled for me yet. Until I finally had a Convention of Elements drop ~15 paragon levels ago I was running with cubed Ess of Johan as well, and it’s honestly a shame that CoE is so required to push higher rifts because the vacuuming provided by the Ess has phenomenal synergy with the thorns playstyle. Instead of rushing straight for elite packs I’ll whack whatever is nearby when my horse runs out, kill a few things to refresh the cooldown, and then gallop away again which the Ess made a lot easier.

That said, without an Akarat’s or CoE I was able to push to GRift 55 without too much trouble, and able to complete the conquest for beating a GRift 45 with no set items equipped. Without a frame of reference from playing other classes thorns seems crazy strong this season (though my understanding is it’s got a much higher group play drop off than other builds)

Just switched Shield Bash for Consecrate after finally getting my Thorns gem to 25 for the taunt effect. Yeah, it’s pretty good. I think last time I used it I just didn’t have enough Thorns.

I think the least effective bit there is still Bombardment. I appreciate the belt is proccing it with Spiked Barrels every 6 seconds, but that rune does not make the damage thorns damage, it just increases the damage dealt by a factor of your thorns. When Trove procs for me it does absolutely crap all damage compared to everything else I am doing. The belt is really only in the build for the permanent damage reduction due to the Invoker 4 piece bonus.

Are you finding different with Barrel of Spikes?

Yeah. my bad, it was showing. Nice ring indeed!

I just had an Ancient Nems drop, so I may pair that with cubed RoRG for GR key farming.

Of course I also just had Ancient Invoker Bracers drop, so life is hard indeed! :)

GR59 done and dusted in 7 minutes as well. Seriously the AA shield only really begins to proc with decent reliability after GR55. For TX speed farming, other shields with a more reliable proc or bonuses may actually be preferred.

It seems to be doing decent enough damage, but honestly I haven’t touched Consecrate since GR30 or so to make a fair comparison. Without the cooldown procs from Akarat shield Consecrate didn’t feel very effective (I’m at ~42% CDR with either Norvald’s or a 1 hander+Fervor because of rolls), and the damage boost with spikes vs regular bombardment (combined with spike horse) is enough to pick off a few pieces of trash and help refresh Steed Charge. At this point it feels like the build really needs the Akarat’s Awakening to push much higher/faster.

I can survive TX just fine, but I kill shit too slowly. I farm my grift stones on T9. Though maybe for rifts I could run TX and literally ignore trash in favor of elites; that would get around my mediocre CDR and lack of Heart of Iron.

AA would be a huge difference-maker. Maybe I’ll go back to gambling shields once in a while when I get disheartened on chests again.

The 2.4 Wizard is among my favorite ARPG characters of all time. The DMO-Channeling-Twister spec is incredibly fun. Here’s why, if you’re considering one:

  • You get cool powers. Slow Time, Teleport, summoning massive tornadoes. Too many RPG’s treat magic as guns that sprout from a staff, just projectile weapons with different colors.

  • You’re mobile (due to the Teleport-Illusionist synergy) Slow specs are boring!

  • You’re also tanky and do tons of damage. DMO specs are among the very top for all classes in both solo and group play this season

  • There’s skill involved. Your tornadoes path randomly, and your DPS skyrockets if you can hit one tornado with another. Between that and the positioning requirements, there is an enjoyable learning curve (I’m not sure how this would work on a console, though, as it seems very mouse-specific)

I just finished a GR65 with three minutes to spare. My goal is GR75 this season. D3 is a lot of fun right now :)

I haven’t been able to have fun with my wizard for several patches, so I might have to give this config a try. I’m missing some of it, the orb, the belt, the sword, but I’ve got a full set of ancient DMO and those bracers and the jewelry.
