Yeah, when I went back to it after my wife was done watching SlingTV, I switched on the Xbox and … oh horror… it was doing a system update. Meaning that Diablo 3 would no longer be suspended.
So after the system update, I started a new GR 20, and as I was fighting the Rift Guardian, the countdown went from being in the corner to right in the center of the screen. 10 seconds left. 9…8…
I almost had him down to zero. Maybe 5% health left, I was going to use all my abilities and trigger as much nonsense on the screen as I could… 7…6…5…4…3…2…1…
I think he was down to 1% health when I hit zero. And he died about 2 seconds later.
Still, I beat the Rift, so that should be good enough for the Season Chapter IV objective, right?
Hmmm, it hadn’t triggered yet. Maybe after I go to town and talk to the ghost guy? I did that. Nope. I guess for the Chapter objective I have to do more than just “reach Greater Rift 20” and to beat it.
And now I’m out of GR keys. So I couldn’t beat it last night. Maybe tonight after work.
Yeah, you gotta do it in 15 minute time limit!
Speaking of rifts, are the normal rifts of the same level always more difficult than the Greater Rifts? I’ve noticed this for any given class/build that I seem to get in trouble in rifts where I’m verging on dying but in GRs of the same level I finish them in 7-9 minutes, typically. I’m thinking it’s the level design, where rifts are frequently more open and I can gather up several groups of elites at once while GRs are so linear that I never encounter more than one group at a time. It seems strange that it’d be this way, but I typically dread rifts where I’d waltz through GRs.
I agree. GR20 felt much easier to me than a N Rift at Torment IV, even though it’s supposed to be one step higher, because their in-game chart says Torment IV is supposedly GR19 equivalent.
Different topic: I started a Demon Hunter last night. I’d forgotten how hard it is to level up a starting character. You get so used to level 70 characters and the way you mow things down, it’s a shock to the system to back to a situation where each normal enemy takes a while to kill, even on Hard difficulty. It’s pathetic! And none of the things I can find at the vendor’s or in the stash is what I’m looking for. I think it might actually be easiest to do what I did last time, which is to play the story mode instead of Adventure mode. I’m having a hell of a slog in adventure mode.
Oh, and I learned that your Season Journey stays the same! It doesn’t reset per character. So my demon hunter won’t get any set rewards, since my monk already claimed them. So that’s a bit disappointing. Maybe I should play this character next season when she can get her own set reward.
While it’s true you don’t get the season rewards, your second and on characters in seasonal play have the advantage of your first character gathering tons of gems and cash so you can craft pretty much awesome gear as your second third etc. characters are leveling out. And if you had a gem of ease leveled to 25 you could give your new character some sort of endgame weapon from level one which would make leveling them trivial.
Interesting. So a gem of ease is a legendary gem that you get from a Greater Rift?
Maybe when I finally finish that GR 20 with my monk, I’ll get a gem of ease.
Leveling up a gem to level 25 seems a little extreme though. On each GR you get the chance to level up a gem 4 times if you don’t die. So you’d have to finish a GR 5 or 6 times without dying in order to do that. Which also means you’d have to finish 5 or 6 NRs in order to get the keys to do GRs. So that’s about 12 x 15 minutes each if you’re fast.
Still, if I get a Gem of Ease to drop this weekend, that sounds like a good goal for next week.
Oh, good to know. I only played a Demon Hunter in S10 and now my Necro in S11 and I was thinking about doing another S11 character, but without the reward I’m not sure there’s a point to it. I could just as easy play a non-season character if there’s no reason to do a season one. Then again, my slots are almost maxed out. What happens to season characters if your character slots are filled? Do they retire?

You used to have to cube the gem of easement with an item to remove level requirements, now it’s just a socket so you can use it repeatedly.
Pick up a 2h Furnace, socket the gem, give it to a level one and you can have a lvl 70 character in minutes.
I have to admit, that sounds super badass. I can just imagine it now. Instead of my demon hunter having to shoot at a lowly zombie 12 times to bring it down on Hard, I’d be instantly killing groups on Torment difficulty or some such. Yes please! I definitely want to do that at least once.

It’s fun, no lie.
5 times. Once you get a character that can clear the upper torment levels it’s not hard to spend the money each time for 5 tries, especially on the lower GRifts.
Anyone using a Rathma build with Revive (and preferably a Tasker & Theo in the cube)? I’d like to know how quickly you can cycle Army of the Dead.
No no no, son, you gotta be faster than fast! That is why I love the perma-chook!
Got the alt up in two days thanks to some carries last night from my local crew, a good night’s farming at TV tonight with a Zunimassa/Helltooth combo and some crafting going my way.
I ran with it for a while and it is a faster reset - I would have it up for almost every elite fight. That was before I had a T+T and before TX. It’s strange, but the consensus seems to be that you’re better off getting more Singularity runed Skelly Mages out, particularly once you have the Jesseth set (400% minion damage) and Circle of Naijul’s Evol ring (double skelly mages per cast and they last longer). That’s not to say AoD wouldn’t be a nice damage boost, but 10 Singularity Skellies do a metric shit ton of damage already and the focus seems to be on using slots for mitigation and resource regen to get Skellies out and keep them out.
I think it is like this:
- AoD with 10 x Skelly Mages = 12000% + (10 x 250% Rathma ) = 14500% Damage (10 Skelly Mages is max)
- 1 Singularity Skelly mages, assuming all 10 are out with Jesseth set bonus = 400% + (300esssence x 3%) + (10 x 250% Rathma bonus) + 400% Jesseth bonus = 4200% ea (42,000% for all 10)
So given AoD is on CD, even with set resets, it may not be worth it if you have to give up resource regen or mitigation.

I was using Rathma, but not with Revive. Theway I got the most out of Army of the dead when I was playing with it was just Skeleton Archers, and the Nailuj evol ring. Double archers lasting forever is good times…
Currently playing with an inarius build using Bonestorm. I realize the gem build for it was recently nerfed, but still having a great time with it…
Who do I need to talk to about getting into the guild? I sent in an invite, but was rejected I think?
AoD is 14,500 w the poison variant, (or 50k total with one of the others) And all damage bonuses should be multiplicative, iirc.
I just am not liking the singularity playstyle (and all the build sacrifices that have to be made for it to work) at all. Using Rathma without AoD, seems like a huge waste.
I didn’t like the mages much at first, but with the right pieces it gets better and Army feels like a huge waste of a giant cooldown for me.
I got home and did another rift, to get a GR keystone. I also happened to get a Legendary belt that reduces melee physical damage by 29% as it’s special orange property. Nice! And it had slightly better primary stat and vitality compared to the Demon’s belt I was using.
So in I go to Greater Rift 20. This time I was really close again, but finished 27 seconds late. This time I just super unlucky. There were sooooo many dead ends in the map. I ran into at least 10 dead ends on the first floor and had to backtrack constantly, wasting precious time. The worst was when I would reach a 3 way split in the road, go left, reach a dead end, backtrack, go straight, reach a dead end, backtrack, go right, and reach another fucking dead end!!! Then I had to pull up the map and realize there another fork in the road way back where I could have take another right, so I backtrack all the way there, and that leads to a whole new area, and then that whole area turned out to be a dead end too.
Now, to be fair, I was killing elites in all these places, so they were helping me towards my goal, but there was just so much time spent backtracking with no enemies to fight. Even when I was trying to dash as much as possible, it still took a long time where I was fighting no one.
Just wanted to confirm something I read a while back. This works if the character is within 7 levels of the minimum level of the item in question.
For example, for all you necros out there, if you need a Naijul ring, which has a minimum level of 11, gamble with a level 4 character.
I got it. And with it, the last piece of the set. And most importantly, the little green dragon pet. (j/k)
The complete Monk set makes a huge difference. The boost in damage is astronomical, which allows you to go into much higher difficulty tiers.
Now, I know there’s no more rewards, but I am letting the rest of the season, if I can reach it, guide me and teach me about the game. For example, I followed the instructions and got the ingredients and put together a Hellfire amulet. I followed the instructions and found my set dungeon for this Monk set, and I attempted it a few times. Phew! Boy that’s hard. And yet… very addictive. It does seem impossible though to “master” it. I have to get to the chest in under two minutes, not get hit by a succubus bolt, and kill 450 enemies for basic completion. Or kill all the enemies for Mastery. Even if they all died if I breathed on them, I don’t think I could do that one, but we’ll see.

Set dungeons for the most part are a pain in the ass. The only reason I’ve ever done them is to fufill the requirements for slayer and champion. Speaking of sets, did they intend to not have the necro set in the achievements for soloing grifts in a class set? Guessing it is just an oversight.
Completing a set dungeon is pretty easy, once you work out the ‘trick’ of the build the Devs had in mind. Mastering a dungeon solo can be difficult.
Mastering a dungeon with a partner, however is trivial! Yep, people can help you in dungeons and usually the best way for them to assist is in following a respectful distance in you wake while you complete the primary objectives and clearing the trash mobs you miss. Once you give the go ahead after clearing the primary objectives you can split up to wipe the remainder of the floor of enemies.
