Took advantage of the extra extra XP buff and finished rolling my Monk through Hardcore. I dropped it down to Normal for Belial, Azmodan, and Act 4 but probably could have played through the whole way on Hard, and only had two encounters that I was close to death. A friendly tip: don’t be like me and kill Diablo at level 55 when it would’ve been trivial to get to level 60 and have a shot at much better legendary drops. Whoops.

Quick question for you Diablo pros: I haven’t seen any green set items drop yet in my post 2.0.1 patch playthroughs. Is it because they’re only available in Torment? Or have I just not been very lucky?

You’re just unlucky. They did just hotfix things so that the class sets only drop in Torment 1 or higher, but all the rest are available.

I got 1 green so far in 2.x, and it was terrible.
Hopefully something good will drop soon. :)

Set items seem to be lot rarer than legendaries. I’ve gotten maybe one set item for every 20-30 legendary items in 2.0

Also, the stats seem to be considerably worse than legendaries until you get the set bonuses. Given how rare set items are and the inability to trade them, I don’t think I’m ever going to actually see any set bonuses in action. :P

Yes, but the exact same thing happens to one-handed weapons. Two-handers are supposed to get better than one-handers as you get to 70, but as you’ve already mentioned the damage difference still probably won’t make up for having a decent second weapon or offhand item.

I don’t know what you mean with the “the exact same thing happens to one-handed weapons”. Onehanders are rolling level appropriate stats, twohanders aren’t, or am I missing something?

This came up earlier in the thread; both 1H and 2H weapons are rolling appropriate stats. D3 items are created by applying affixes to “base items”. There are no level 60 “base items” for some categories, so your legendaries are actually level 57 items, or whatever. The problem is that 2H weapons only inherently deal more damage than 1H weapons due to their base qualities, their base damage. Base damage is a proportionally smaller amount of the total damage on 1H weapons, so they’re better choices at 60.

Back in D3 1.0, many legendaries were actually based upon level 63 items, so this wasn’t a problem, but that changed in 2.0. This is an interim issue, and won’t be a problem at level 70 with the expansion due out in 3 days, so they didn’t bother fixing it.

Yeah, that’s what I meant with the post on previous page. So onehanders have the same issue, missing lvl 60 white items for some types (hence the LazyShiftlessBastard’s post)? I thought only twohanders were affected by this.

They do, yep. It just hurts them less.

Thanks for clearing that up. I’m wondering now if Odyn’s Son is one of those affected, saw 3 drops in chat today, all with a damage roll of 10xx.

So all the types have a level 70 base item?

I don’t know how they fixed it, but the devs said it wouldn’t be a problem at 70. Your guess seems the most likely.

Can I confirm that the gist of this is, that at this point, I should not be using a two-handed weapon as a Barb? I’m better off dual wielding or using a shield, assuming legendaries with all options?

At 60, that’s right.

Yes. Because of the way the base damage and magic affixes are currently designed two-handers are basically meant to suck until level 70 with the expansion, at which point it looks like they become mediocre. If you look at some of the +damage affixes they are practically adding more damage than the actual base weapon had, so dropping the weapon damage with the same affixes means that the base weapon stats are almost irrelevant in comparison. Since dual-weilding or using an offhand gives you way more magic item affixes (and thus damage boosts) than a two-hander, their base damage is a way smaller proportion of their final damage and it will be rare that you’ll ever find a two-hander worth using.

Two-handed weapon damage has been a big herp-derp in D3 for a long time, and the new design team is even derpier than the last one about it.

Fair enough. Seems a bit annoying if (like me) you’re a very casual D3 player whose happy to wait a year until RoS is on sale.

So, just got a 1.3k dps monk only weapon, with -27 level requirement. I have a feeling I’m gonna have to level a second monk just because it will be awesome to use it until i’m 60 :D
Had a nice group tonight, farming Paragon levels – went from 50 to 87 on Torment VI. Didn’t see many item drops though.

To you veteran players … am I just being incredibly dense here (always a possibility) or is there really no way to compare a piece of equipment with that your follower is currently using?

And to add to the question, how about the second ring slot?
