Diablo IV - A Return To Darkness

I believe it’s due to go live in 1 hour from this post, right?

Yup, 10 am PDT - the download is available for anyone who wants to be ready to go at launch time.

“Fail and lose it all.” Does not sound like a fun time after battling waves of demons for however long. They wouldn’t do something that would punish players that way would they?

I fired up my copy of Diablo 4 to sort out the chest, getting all the seasonal stuff moved into other slots so I don’t lose it all. I didn’t, and as of this moment still don’t, plan to jump into season 5. I feel like I need a breather, and it’s a fairly short one since it ends with the release of the DLC. But I do kinda want to dip my toes in and see what’s different. Argh, what to do.

Not any different than fighting in the Pit for 5-10 minutes, failing the timer and coming away with nearly nothing.

I think it sounds great, actually. I doubt you’ll spend more than 15-20 minutes on a run even at the higher tiers, and if you take a shot at something too hard you just might lose that work. Happens in the Pit a lot too and it’s disappointing, but that just pushes you to do better. Difficulty is something the game often lacks, especially in softcore.

Explains why I didn’t care for The Pit gameplay either, I suppose.

HC play, I understand this type of design, but people in SC want to just have fun crushing mobs and gathering loot. That’s why season 4 was such a hit and brought back players like me. The higher difficulty stuff is not where the fun was at for the majority, I’d expect.

You get to tune the difficulty between waves by picking bonuses that make the run harder and up the rewards or easier for lower rewards. I have only tried one so far, but it seems to give the player control based on how the run is going. It’s fine as far as I’m concerned (and I’m not someone who pushes the pit).

Got a barrage rogue to 26 and a fireball sorcerer to 27 today.

My main advice is to not sleep on the seasonal quest line. First because the conceit is funny, and second because it works like the Iron Wolves rewards last season. The sooner you get them, the more powerful the rewards will be for your characters.

Alright, you’ve convinced me that it’s at least worth checking out the season. It’ll be a necro for sure, although not sure what type yet.

I was going to ask if any particular class was recommended for this season, any interesting buffs or changes that might be worth checking out?

Edit: ok, I started a tornado Druid. I am so weak. But I was never really happy with my hurricane Druid last season, see how this shakes out.

I feel like I chose the wrong class. Quite a few guildies on tonight, and I was a lone necro in a sea of sorcerors…

Debating jumping in, but going into 2nd full week of school, and my younger daughter has already brought something home that has 3 of us sick.

The pre-season theory crafting based on patch notes says rogue and sorcerer should be the hot classes this season. But that’s subject to change when people actually experiment with builds.

What is it that makes a class “hot” or not in a season? The mechanics just favour one over another? Loot is better for a specific class?

I ended up having a free Premium Battle Pass so activated that this season. Don’t know how much I’ll play after finishing VoH.

The patch changes to skill damage, the cooldown changes, the new unique items, the class specific main stat damage scaling adjustments introduced in S5, …

Rogue and mage are the main beneficiaries. Doesn’t mean there won’t be another powerful combo.

Personally, I play through the free battle pass first. Then if I get far enough into it during the season, I activate the battle pass and retroactively claim all the rewards.

It’s purely cosmetic. So you lose nothing by just playing for free and activating it later if you got to the stuff you wanted out of it.

I bought 500 platinum to get me the final 200 for the pass. Next season I should hopefully have enough between the left over from this season plus the platinum I earn from the pass to afford the next one.

Does it really matter which build you go with if you are not shooting for the top of the leaderboards?

I started a sorcerer last night, and played for a couple hours to get to around lvl 25. Last season I pushed a necro to 100, and ended up starting a sorcerer, but didn’t get back to finishing the climb so he was only 80.

Nope. You can pretty much play whatever you want on the way to 100. Some builds will be faster than others. If you aren’t in a rush, play whatever is fun to you.

That is what I’ve always figured. I still look at builds online, but I don’t worry much if it isn’t considered s-tier.
