Diablo IV - A Return To Darkness

Is that camera behaviour on PC? Haven’t seen that kind of camera issues on Xbox.

There have been a few lag spikes but not that many in recent days. The servers do seem to be under some stress.

That was on the PS5. It only started just within these same last couple days, so it’s probably an update that broke a few things all at once.

But hey, the transition loading screen into dungeons shows my mount and pet with me now, so all is well. Haha.

It was on Xbox for me. I’ve only seen it a couple times and it never lasts very long so I filed it under amusing rather than highly annoying bug.

What I was seeing was myself, and mobs basically running in place, with the countdown timer frozen, though audio was still going, and then it might jump forward a few seconds, and then happen again. Not playing HC, and weating Tyrael’s Might, though I never died in the times it has happened, so not a big deal beyond burning an infernal compass and potion. I ended up exiting diablo completely, and then when I went back in I could complete a horde without issue.

It is nice when the boon/banes roll nicely. I had my first 900+ tier 7 run last night. I think I got 2 exalted hordes, plus a number of Hellborne choices.

Yep, seen that too. Seen a lot of things really. Here’s a vid of me getting wiped by an invisible, untargetable and immortal boss.

Hey, at least it wasn’t hardcore!

I was totally not smart enough to do this, but hopefully I’ll remember this for S6!

Oh, ok that makes sense, thanks for the explanation (you and @vyshka too).

Saw my first helltides last night. Had very little idea what was going on. Went from 32 to 40 in no time and got my first two uniques (the same item, of course)

From what I found online, new players will still need to grind area rep to unlock the extra paragon points, which I hadn’t done yet.

So I went ahead. What started as a chore has actually turned into a great time. After getting my chain lightening sorc to 100 in seasonal I went back to eternal and dusted off my original rogue character to start grinding. I had left off way back when as a twisting blades poisoner at level 60, so plenty of headroom for growth.

I found that there wasn’t much difference playing on eternal vs seasonal. Tempering was there. Even the new horde mode from season 5. So far so good. I looked through a few guides and voila!

Barrage / imbue Rogues are the freaking BOMB. I enjoy playing this one even more than the chain lightning sorc, and that’s saying something. While grinding rep, I was also able to build out this character. Even with the season ending soon, my playtime has been most productive.

I do see some appeal in creating the perfect build. Chasing those greater affix’s with the perfect rolls and seeing exactly how high it is possible to climb. If eternal is basically the same as seasonal, I think that’s the place to do it. It will take longer than one season to reach that level anyway, at least for me.

Takeaways:

  • Getting those last 20 paragon points is totally worth it.
  • Grinding rep in eternal will unlock for your whole account.
  • Eternal characters are still very much worth playing.
  • Unless D4 is your full time job, use guides to set up your paragon boards. It is a night and day difference in powerlevel and enjoyment for playing your character.
  • Try different classes. This one is a “duh”, but I often get stuck on one archetype.
  • Guides are usefull to get recommended gear modifications, but don’t get hung up on equipping what they show. If you find a unique that looks cool, go with it!
  • Gear and leveling comes so frequently don’t get hung up on equipping minor upgrades until you are level 100. This will only overwhem you with sorting junk. Just pick a few gates, like 30, 50, 70 whatever and focus a couple hours on finding all your slots and upgrading. Of course major upgrades should be equipped when you find them.
  • Tempering, paragon placement and gems will make your character night and day stronger. Don’t skip out on those. Past level 30, if you do equip something, make sure you properly upgrade it.

Haven’t explored masterworking much yet. Given the lift, I’d assume this should be done mainly on 925 powerlevel endgame gear.

I finally got the Chief Marauder in the dungeon near the Season 5 starting area.

Phew!

I respec’d and took the three points from Ball Lightning and it’s follow up skills since it does nothing to the guy. Instead I put those in Chain Lightning since it actually hurts him.

And then I ran, ran, ran around in circles trying to not to get hit by his abilities. I did also start trying to get him with Arc Leash, since it surprisingly does as much damage as chain lightning, I just need to make sure I hit and run and don’t let him swing his giant axe.

That was a fun 3 days. If all the bosses in the game were this hard, I would be in heaven.

Rhykker has posted a deep dive on his PTR experience for the next season.

It’s interesting to see all the QoL changes, the new skill tree to 60, the item changes, …

I did my 2nd dungeon with my Lightning Sorceress this morning.

It’s quite the feeling of power playing an immortal character, isn’t it? I just want to cackle in glee at the Elite monsters and bosses. You think you have me? I have infinite lives you fools! Now taste my lightning.

I still have no plan for this build yet, but I miss having a Hydra, so I was thinking since I hate ball lightning so much, maybe I’ll just get all conjuration skills? Lightning spear, Hydra and the last conjuration skill is apparently something called Ice Spikes. Maybe I can use my Sorceress auto-proc skills to get all 3 to come on all the time? Maybe there’s items that can help me with conjuration skills across the board? That sounds kinda fun. Especially for a character that can’t die.

I definitely have played more endgame this season than any prior ones.

I’m at a point where it is just kind of a chill thing of running infernal hordes, occasionally running helltides to get materials for tormented bosses, building up a stack of gold and neathiron, and then blowing it all trying to masterwork the right affix. I’ve been trying to get my crit strike % just a little bit higher, but only rolling 2/3 on ring of the starless sky. I think I’ve probably blown through over a billion gold plus associated mats now.

I’m assuming transmuting sparks can generate a mythic with greater affixes, yes? I did a bunch of tormented yesterday with the mats I’d built up this week, and got a grand total of 1 spark.
