as for the processor I want to game and edit. Do I want dual core? Do I want an Fx dual core? I’m not sure I want to spend a ton of money on a processor, but I would like bang for the buck.

edit what?

IMHO the FX is only worthwhile if you have money to burn or you’re a benchmark freak. It’s the fastest, but the speed-boost-per-dollar value is pretty low.

If you multitask at all, go for an X2. I have one, and it’s sweet. I can convert video for the PSP, etc. while gaming with no speed issues whatsoever. And I’m starting to see a few things trickle through that support the extra core as well (DVDShrink, X-Plane, etc.).
