Hi Dreamshadow,
The upgrade discount will be available only through our online store, we have no way of doing that through Steam. Once the release goes live, there will be a page where you can enter your previous DW series serial numbers and it will give you a coupon code that you can apply in our store before you purchase. Any purchase through our store will also be able to get a Steam key.
Regards,
Excellent! Got my keys ready to go! Thanks!
I just poked my head into the new steam forum for Distant Worlds, expecting to see many ‘WHUH $60?? RIPOFF!’ posts. So far, though, none of that. Just longtime fans praising it. The tone might change come release, but for now its nice to see a civil discussion.
Fans of Distant Worlds are just better people in general, it’s been scientifically proven.

I noticed the other day that Pandora: First Contact was also showing up on Steam. Has Matrix finally caved in, I hope?
OH wow, didn’t even notice that. Awesome!

Yes, I think they have announced that Pandora is coming to Steam soon.
What will happen now that Pandora’s box is open…???
Either hope or an unwanted pregnancy.

I have no interest in buying this but I’m so happy to see that Matrix has finally come around on their thinking regarding use of Steam and actually packaging together previous expansions for new customers. I hope that they are rewarded for their efforts.
There are hardly any posts yet, and I imagine most people there are fans who have just learned of the release through places like this. But I do notice one post about the font size already… ;)

Yes, indeed - we’re planning to bring quite a few games to Steam this year. We’ve already released Panzer Corps and Battle Academy there last month, followed by the re-release of Rise of Prussia Gold and Pride of Nations and now Distant Worlds: Universe and Pandora.
This does not change our own release plans and our continued direct online store and community focus, but we are excited about the possibilities of raising awareness among a new community of gamers about our games.

Erik, please post here again with a link when the $9.99 deal is live. It is an awesome deal I for one cannot pass up, but I am not playing it right now and might forget - and then when I find time in like, July, I will be sad if I did.

Thanks for this update, Erik. I for one will greatly appreciate the ease of install/expansion management that the Steam platform can provide and will gladly pitch in the 9.99 necessary to make that happen.
Hey Erik,
Matrix is giving me the opportunity to give them another $10 to receive a steam key and add mod support to a game I already paid over $100 for? Awesome! Most indie devs would give me that for free.
Its more than just mod support this new expansion.
Sheesh… you guys complain games aren’t on Steam then complain when it is. If you don’t like it, vote with your wallet and don’t buy it.
Oi, you! Nutter! C’mere! The original game already had modding support, this is just making it even more robust AS WELL AS adding new story elements. And why would most indie devs give you a free expansion? That’s what you’re asking for, isn’t it?

Most indie developers charge for DLC that adds story elements alone. Not sure how this is an issue. Unless Flu is just being facetious?
