Yup, I tried to buy Shadows, it said “You better make sure you need all these other things” and lets you check 'em off. Add 'em all to the cart, and it’s $69.96 for the game and three expansions.

Thanks, Brian. Also, one last thing… it was mentioned a few months ago (I think?) that Matrix doesn’t use that shitpile called Digital River anymore, is that right? Am I going to need to be creating backups of my download or does Matrix have non-expiring download links now?

Yes, but were released in this order:

Distant Worlds
Distant Worlds - Return of the Shakturi
Distant Worlds - Legends
Distant Worlds - Shadows

I’m thinking the expansion is worth it alone for the font improvement in the selection panel. Might easily save me $20 with the eye doctor.

I just checked. I don’t see any links in my account that would allow me to re-download the original setup files. I keep copies of both the original setup file and all patches. It would be wise to do so.

I don’t believe they do, but Erik would be the one to answer that.

So, I buy the expansion, download it, install it…but the game itself won’t START.

The game menu opens up…I can click on every button on there, and it goes and does what it is supposed to do…EXCEPT for play the game (start it up).

Anyone have any idea why it won’t work now? I ran Legends just before I purchased Shadows, and the game started up with no problem…but now it won’t.

I’m buying digitally like it’s 1999! :D

Alright, purchased, I’ll shove the files up on Google Drive or something. This better be good, Brian, otherwise you owe me a lengthy and verbose AAR of a week-long GalCiv game as penance!

Don’t make me hit you with my Lasers VII.

I believe this is wrong. I recall when I bought DW last year Erik stating that Matrix itself allows repeat downloads. However I can’t find his post to that effect.

I don’t know how it’s supposed to work, but I bought all 4 items together. Two of them I can see a link to re-download, the other two I can’t.

Distant Worlds registered automatically (no download), the other three I had to enter manually (downloads available for two, but not for Shadows). The oldest and the newest don’t have downloads, the middle two do. So not exactly consistent in it’s behavior, whatever it’s supposed to be. :)

That is downloads of patches not the games themselves. The games themselves are downloaded through plimus only

Try this page.

Ah, so under My Orders, not My Games. Confusing, but thanks for straightening me out. I can see all the download links now!

Looks like you’re not alone.

Very weird, I had no problems getting the game to run. Did the installer go through it’s .Net and DirectX installations too?

I didn’t save mine when I purchased everything from the last sale, but just sent a help email to Plimus when I had to redownload for my new computer. I received updated download links pretty quickly.

If Erik is still monitoring the thread, the Find My Order page for Digital River seems to no longer work for Matrix orders from before the switch to Plimus. The members section my orders page should probably be updated to remove that.

Try right clicking on the shortcut and “run as administrator”.

Hi everyone,

A few quick answers:

If you’re having any issues getting Shadows to work, please post in our Tech Support forum here. We’re investigating an issue that we believe is likely dependency-based and is affecting a few users, but it works fine on all our test systems and seems to be working fine for most. We’ll get it figured out and resolved today once we know what’s causing it.

If you are logged into our site when you purchase, your games are automatically registered and you can automatically get a new download link at any time from our Members Club.

You can alternately request a new download link at any time from our Help Desk.

Unlimited re-downloads. If you need a new link, just ask. Also no DRM, so if you download that installer and archive it, it will still work fine 10 years from now as long as you still have your PC. :-)

Regards,

  • Erik
