I appreciate all the info, Erik. Just wanted to let you know as a FYI that it only registered Distant Worlds (base) for me when I purchased the whole group of products. I had to manually register all the expansions, even though I was logged in at time of purchase. I added them via the checkbox prompt when adding the base game to my cart, if that makes any difference.

Also guys, if you’re new to this, make sure to RTFM (it’s actually a great read) and do the tutorials. This really isn’t a game one can jump into right away. :) Playing one ship at first really helped me click with the game as well. :) Good luck!

Looks like the dependency issue comes down to some folks getting a prompt from .NET to reboot before the install is finished and doing so. If you have any issues, reinstall Shadows and you can also try running the .NET and XNA redistributable installers manually from the /redist sub-folder of the Shadows installation. That should sort it out if you are experiencing this, which several customers are, while we work on a better solution.

Just checked if mine would start via a remote connection from work. No problem here. I do remember getting an “unsigned” error when attempting to download it via IE 9. Not sure if that might be causing an issue though.

Looks like we’ve got the issue all figured out. Short story, do not reboot during install and reinstall the dependencies manually if the game won’t launch for you. Seems to affect only a few customers given the sales so far, but still a concern. We’re working on updating the installer to make this less confusing.

I’m surprised and pleased by the $20 deal on the expansion. This was a Day 1 for me regardless, but as I predicted upthread, I’d expected $30 and was hoping for $25, given all the new stuff.
